1950 F1 California truck that I received from a family member who bought it from the gentleman who restored it.  This is a very nice truck that has over 20k invested in it and runs and drives very nice.  It could use some finishing touches to make it perfect (see below). I've driven it less than 10 miles and have no need for it.

This is an honest description based on my careful observation but inspections are welcome and encouraged.

  • Body is completely rust free and laser straight with deep red paint. Only a few minor nicks and a narrow dent on roof (out of view) and a small crack in paint by wheel (see pick).  Paint is excellent otherwise.  Truck has always been covered and garaged.
  • Stainless is excellent and chrome is very nice to good. The front hood badges could use re-chroming to be perfect.
  • Engine is a small block Ford/2V. I was told that it was rebuilt and it runs as such, doesn't smoke.  I believe it's a 302.  C4 transmission that shift smoothly and positively. This truck breaks the tires loose easily.
  • New dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers.
  • New professionally installed Mustang II suspension with power steering, disc front brakes and new steering column with tilt.
  • Truck stops safely but requires some effort. I'm including a $500 power booster unit (brand new) that is specifically designed for bolt-in application of this truck when upgraded with Mustang II front end.
  • Electrical works (lights/wipers etc.). Turn signals need to be connected to new steering column, but older bolt on signal unit works. Optima battery.
  • Glass is excellent with no cracks or delamination. Some window rubber is showing age and could be replaced, although it's weather tight.
  • Interior is clean and comfortable without tears or stains; velour all around.  Heater and radio work.
  • Wheels and tires are brand new.
  • Bed is diamond plate with nice fitting cover
  • Tail lights work fine and I'm including new set of 34 Ford lights that look better in my opinion.

This is a very nice truck that gets compliments.  The drivetrain/supsension/brakes were all professionally installed (excellent welding on Mustang II install for example) and it runs and drives very nice.  I'm only selling the truck because I don't have room for and use for it.

I don't like surprises (for you or me) so if you have questions please ask and if you'd like I'm happy to accommodate.   The truck is located in ZIP 93465 which is and easy 3.5 hour drive from the Port of LA or Oakland for International buyers. I'll work with shipping companies but shipping is the responsibility of the buyer.   I require full payment within 7 days and there is no warranty with this truck.

Thanks for looking and please let me know if you have any questions!

The next-generation wearable will be your car

Fri, Jan 8 2016

This year's CES has had a heavy emphasis on the class of device known as the "wearable" – think about the Apple Watch, or Fitbit, if that's helpful. These devices usually piggyback off of a smartphone's hardware or some other data connection and utilize various onboard sensors and feedback devices to interact with the wearer. In the case of the Fitbit, it's health tracking through sensors that monitor your pulse and movement; for the Apple Watch and similar devices, it's all that and some more. Manufacturers seem to be developing a consensus that vehicles should be taking on some of a wearable's functionality. As evidenced by Volvo's newly announced tie-up with the Microsoft Band 2 fitness tracking wearable, car manufacturers are starting to explore how wearable devices will help drivers. The On Call app brings voice commands, spoken into the Band 2, into the mix. It'll allow you to pass an address from your smartphone's agenda right to your Volvo's nav system, or to preheat your car. Eventually, Volvo would like your car to learn things about your routines, and communicate back to you – or even, improvise to help you wake up earlier to avoid that traffic that might make you late. Do you need to buy a device, like the $249 Band 2, and always wear it to have these sorts of interactions with your car? Despite the emphasis on wearables, CES 2016 has also given us a glimmer of a vehicle future that cuts out the wearable middleman entirely. Take Audi's new Fit Driver project. The goal is to reduce driver stress levels, prevent driver fatigue, and provide a relaxing interior environment by adjusting cabin elements like seat massage, climate control, and even the interior lighting. While it focuses on a wearable device to monitor heart rate and skin temperature, the Audi itself will use on-board sensors to examine driving style and breathing rate as well as external conditions – the weather, traffic, that sort of thing. Could the seats measure skin temperature? Could the seatbelt measure heart rate? Seems like Audi might not need the wearable at all – the car's already doing most of the work. Whether there's a device on a driver's wrist or not, manufacturers seem to be developing a consensus that vehicles should be taking on some of a wearable's functionality.

Ford recalls 462,000 SUVs over faulty rear camera

Fri, Jan 27 2023

Ford has had some issues with its backup cameras in recent years, and the troubles are continuing with yet another recall announced today. In this recall, certain Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with the 360-degree parking camera could lose the rear-view camera feed. The newest recall affects some 462,000 vehicles worldwide, Reuters reports, including 382,759 in the U.S. under NHTSA recall 23V-022. The recall applies to the 2020-2023 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator, as well as the 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair. The remedy involves dealers updating the vehicles’ image processing module software free of charge. This latest issue expands a previous recall, and applies to vehicles that have already been serviced under recall 21V-735. Owners will be notified by mail around February 20, and owners can also contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford told NHTSA that it first became aware in October 2021 of a small number of complaints of a blue screen from the rear camera feed on vehicles that had already been repaired. Ford worked with suppliers to track down the potential issue, and said warranty claims remained low until December 2022, when it started to see more claims for blue screens in vehicles produced after the last remedy, at which point Ford ordered a stop-ship on those vehicle lines. Ford said itÂ’s aware of 17 minor accident reports related to the issue, but no injuries. In addition to this recall, Ford has had other camera issues in the past few years that resulted in recalls. NHTSA recall 22V-151 applied to 2021-2022 Edge SUVs experiencing “a distorted, black and white, or discolored screen” when reversing. 2021-2022 Ford Broncos had an issue where the rear-view camera would remain on even after the vehicle was put back into a forward gear. Last year, Ford recalled 330,000 Mustangs for faulty cameras, as well as 277,000 Super Duty trucks over foggy rear-view cameras. In 2021, NHTSA opened an investigation into whether Ford was slow to recall more than 620,000 vehicles for faulty cameras. Recalls Ford Lincoln Safety Crossover SUV

Ford Escort is ready to focus on the Chinese market

Mon, 21 Apr 2014

Ford officially revived the Escort name in China, showing of the new, four-door compact at the Beijing Motor Show. Painted in a stylish brown-bronze, the new sedan wears a number of global Ford styling cues while sharing its platform with the Ford Focus.
Power for the new model comes from a 1.5-liter four-cylinder, although Ford doesn't specify just how much power is on offer, simply saying that the fuel economy of the new mill will be "outstanding." It's unclear what transmission will be distributing the engine's power, although based on the images we've seen, the Escort will definitely offer a two-pedal setup.
The layout of the cabin is fairly clean, although as we mentioned in our initial post on the new Escort, it's a decidedly sparser environment than we've grown use to in US-spec Fords of late. If anything, it's like a weird blend of current Ford switchgear with an overall look that reminds us of older Ford layouts. Still, it looks like a comfortable way of moving five people about without too much fuss. There's ample space both front and rear, and a rather spacious trunk.
