One Gorgeous Pickup!
Description:

Ford restyled its line of pickup trucks for 1935 with a more curvaceous grille, skirted fenders and a laid-back windshield. The new trucks enjoyed phenomenal success, especially surprising given that the country was in the depths of the Great Depression. That success was enough to convince the company to continue the line virtually unchanged in the years ahead, including 1937. One short-lived change was the introduction that year of a downsized economy version of the 221 CI flathead V-8, but a severe lack of power was its undoing and the factory soon dropped it from the equipment list. Another innovation for 1937 was a new 2-piece split-vee windshield, which gave better visibility and made the truck’s cozy cabin seem a little roomier. This 1937 Ford Model 73 half-ton pickup is typical of the utilitarian nature of that line. The truck features straight sheet metal all around, with Medium Green paint on the cab and pickup bed and matching fenders, running boards are black finished with chrome wheels. Its full-bore 221/85 HP flathead A engine resides in a fully restored engine compartment finished as it would have appeared in 1937, including a downdraft Stromberg 97 carb with oil bath air cleaner. The Ford’s purposeful interior has been restored with the correct material for the seats and floor mats and is typical of the vintage, employing operating gauges and a 100 MPH speedometer in a twin-gauge instrument panel. A few period correct items have been installed like dual mirrors, blinkers, rear view mirror with clock etc. Completing this rare ‘30s pickup is a restored cargo box that remains unused and completely fresh.

Overall an extremely nice example of a 37 Ford pickup. After being restored in 99 by the previous owner the truck was kept in a climate controlled garage and only used on nice days. Being restored almost 15yrs ago the truck still looks very fresh. There are a few minor blemishes in the paint but there are very minor (see photo's and make sure to click on the slideshow to view more. The paint was of very high quality and it shows. Please understand it was restored 15yrs ago, but on the other hand she look's excellent and preforms excellent! A electric fuel pump was added.

2014 Ford F-150 gets CNG option

Wed, 31 Jul 2013

Ford is toiling away, installing heavy-duty engine components into select 3.7-liter V6s to allow them to run on compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquid petroleum gas (LPG) in addition to gasoline. That's nothing new, but now, Ford has announced that it will offer the 2014 F-150 with this engine configuration, bringing the Blue Oval's total number of CNG/LPG-friendly vehicles up to eight. The F-150 will be the only half-ton pickup on the market that can run on these gases.
Ford will charge $315 per vehicle to equip the optional engine, but the trucks won't be ready to run on the alternative fuels straight from the factory and must be upfitted with additional equipment. A Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier will install a separate fuel system for the compressed gases at a cost of $7,500 to $9,500, depending on fuel tank size. With the right-size tank, the F-150 equipped with the CNG/LPG-prepped engine can go 750 miles on one tank of gas, according to Ford, averaging 23 miles per gallon.
The practice of offering flex-fuel vehicles is gaining momentum as businesses take advantage of cheap gas. CNG can be bought for $2.11/gallon on average (per gasoline equivalent), and sometimes for as little as $1.00 in some parts of the US, Ford states. "With the money saved using CNG, customers could start to see payback on their investment in as little as 24 to 36 months," says Jon Coleman, Ford's fleet sustainability and technology manager. The automaker expects to sell a total of 15,000 CNG/LPG-prepped vehicles in the 2014 model year.

180,000 new vehicles are sitting, derailed by lack of transport trains

Wed, 21 May 2014

If you're planning on buying a new car in the next month or so, you might want to pick from what's on the lot, because there could be a long wait for new vehicles from the factory. Locomotives continue to be in short supply in North America, and that's causing major delays for automakers trying to move assembled cars.
According to The Detroit News, there are about 180,000 new vehicles waiting to be transported by rail in North America at the moment. In a normal year, it would be about 69,000. The complications have been industry-wide. Toyota, General Motors, Honda and Ford all reported experiencing some delays, and Chrysler recently had hundreds of minivans sitting on the Detroit waterfront waiting to be shipped out.
The problem is twofold for automakers. First, the fracking boom in the Bakken oil field in the Plains and Canada is monopolizing many locomotives. Second, the long, harsh winter is still causing major delays in freight train travel. The bad weather forced trains to slow down and carry less weight, which caused a backup of goods to transport. The auto companies resorted to moving some vehicles by truck, which was a less efficient but necessary option.

Watch as U.S. auto industry springs back to life after lockdown

Tue, May 19 2020

WARREN, Michigan — The Detroit Three automakers and their suppliers began restarting assembly lines on Monday after a two-month coronavirus lockdown in a slow revival of a sector that employs nearly 1 million people in the United States. On a chilly and damp Monday morning, hundreds of workers at Fiat Chrysler Automobile's (FCA) truck plant in Warren, Michigan, began lining up before 4 a.m. to start the 5 a.m. shift. Signs overhead read: "Let's restart." "I'm a little nervous," said Larry Smith, 53, of New Baltimore, who works on wheel alignment away from the assembly line. "They made all the precautions (and) they've done everything they can to prepare us ... I'm trusting in God." Detroit automakers on Monday said there were no issues with absenteeism as the plants opened. FCA reopened four U.S. assembly plants on Monday, including Warren Truck, on a single shift, as well as four parts plants. The reopening of car plants will be a closely watched test of whether workers across a range of U.S. industries can return to factories in large numbers without a resurgence of infections. General Motors Co, Ford Motor Co and FCA have all been preparing for weeks to reopen their North American factories in a push to restart work in an industry that accounts for about 6% of U.S. economic activity. Investors welcomed the gradual restart, sending GM's shares up more than 9% on Monday. FCA shares rose 7.3%, while Ford's were up 6.7%. Auto companies have redesigned assembly lines and retrained workers in an effort to avoid coronavirus outbreaks that could derail production again. Workers entering factories on Monday were checked by temperature monitors. Face masks or shields are standard protective equipment. Jobs such as installing seat belts that used to require two or more workers to get close together inside a vehicle have been redesigned to keep people a safe distance apart. Plastic screens have been installed along assembly lines to separate workers leaning in to the engine compartments of vehicles. Break areas have been reconfigured to keep workers six feet apart. The Detroit automakers have collaborated with each other and with the United Auto Workers to develop common coronavirus safety practices. Other automakers in the United States are adopting similar safety measures.
