2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 #793
Too Many Cars + Too Little Time = TIME TO THIN THE HERD . . . a little
Offered Here at NO RESERVE
A couple of years ago I was looking for a modern, high-performance car that could hold my wife and son yet wasn't loaded-down with additional gadgetry and amenities that did not enhance with the driving experience. As the owner of a couple of older BMWs I had considered a new M3 but was ultimately turned off by all the extra "stuff" that apparently cannot be avoided with a modern BMW. I was looking for something more "pure and simple" and thus became quite interested in the new Boss 302 but after calling around a bit, had all but given up on a 2012 since by that time all seemed to have been spoken for. Then through pure luck I stumbled on a dealer that had just been awarded a Boss 302 allocation in Ford's lottery. I ordered it the next day and took delivery of this car in early July 2011. While the Boss fit the bill brilliantly and has exceeded my expectations, I can no longer ignore the realities of owning and more importantly, maintaining six cars (four of which range from 22 to 43 years old). So it's time to let this one go so my other cars can benefit from more of my time and "resources".
2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Specifications:
- Drive Type: Front engine, rear-wheel drive
- Transmission Type: Six-speed manual
- Engine Type: naturally aspirated V8
- Displacement (cc/cu-in): 4,951/302
- Redline (rpm): 7,500
- Horsepower (hp @ rpm): 444 @ 7,400 rpm
- Torque (lb-ft @ rpm): 380 @ 4,500
- Brake Type (front): 14.0-inch ventilated discs with 4-piston Brembo fixed calipers
- Brake Type (rear): 11.8-inch ventilated discs with single-piston sliding calipers
- Suspension Type(front): Independent MacPherson strut, manually adjustable dampers, stabilizer bar
- Suspension Type (rear): Solid axle, Panhard bar, stabilizer bar, manually adjustable dampers
- Tires: Pirelli P Zero 255/40ZR19 (front), 285/35ZR19 (rear)
- Curb Weight (lb): 3,630
Beyond the raw numbers, probably the most surprising thing about this car is how much different it feels compared to a Mustang GT of the same year. The relative simplicity of the Boss gives it a more purposeful feel and the manually adjustable Recaro seats do a fantastic job of keeping the driver in place. In the handling department, the Boss feels noticeably smaller and lighter on its feet (although I don't think it actually weighs much less) that's more like a sports car rather than a high-speed grand-tourer. Adjusting the dampers makes a noticeable difference in the balance between compliance and agility. On less than perfect roads, the full-soft setting is quite comfortable (though still sporty) but when the roads smooth out, stiffer settings noticeably sharpen the cars response to the driver's inputs. Along with the suspension, the large brakes and sticky tires combine to give the car extremely high limits.
The other thing that sets the Boss 302 apart from the Mustang GT and many other modern cars is the engine. Throttle response is noticeably quicker and it wants to keep pulling harder and harder as you approach the rev limit. It behaves more like a thoroughbred race engine when pushed yet doesn't sacrifice the tractability and around-town civility of the GT's V8 when loafing around town. I find that most other modern cars I've driven feel a bit lazy by comparison.
As stated in the condition description section, the car has been carefully maintained and driven respectfully since new. For example, I was careful never to exceed 4000 rpm until the engine had reached operating temperature. Needless to say, this car has never see winter conditions or clutch-dumping launches. It has never been smoked in, eaten in or damaged. It has had one oil change by the dealer at ~3000 miles at which time I had them pull an oil sample that I sent to Blackstone Labs for analysis (which I can provide). I have no doubt that the car will stand up to any evaluation and will gladly arrange for a pre-purchase inspection for seriously interested parties.
I welcome any and all questions about the car and will do my best to provide additional photos if someone wants to see something specific. I will also accommodate individuals who would like to view the car in person before bidding.
Finally, I'm willing to let the market determine what this car is worth and as such, am listing it without reserve. I take the auction process seriously so I will not end the auction early out of respect for other bidders. I will work with the buyer to arrange shipping as necessary. I have no affiliation with them whatsoever but I used Interstate to ship an old Porsche from California to my home in Iowa and was very impressed with their professionalism.
Thank you for looking and happy bidding!!!

Dan Gurney, legendary all-American racer, dies at 86
Mon, Jan 15 2018American racer Dan Gurney, who raced and won in Formula One, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, IndyCar and NASCAR in the 1960s and who started a trend by spraying champagne on the victory podium, died in California on Sunday. He was 86. The news was announced by his wife, Evi, and family in a statement. "With one last smile on his handsome face, Dan drove off into the unknown just before noon today, January 14, 2018," they said. "In deepest sorrow, with gratitude in our hearts for the love and joy you have given us during your time on this earth, we say, 'Godspeed.'" The family said Gurney, whose Formula One career spanned one of the most glamorous and dangerous periods of the sport's history from 1959 to 1970, had died of complications from pneumonia. He won seven IndyCar races, five in NASCAR and four in F1, placing second twice in the Indianapolis 500. He raced in multiple series concurrently throughout much of his career. He was the first of just three drivers to win races in four series — sports cars, Indycars, Formula One and NASCAR. The feat was later replicated by Mario Andretti and Joan Pablo Montoya. At the height of his popularity, in 1964, Car and Driver promoted the idea of electing him president. He retired from racing in 1970 but returned for a NASCAR race in 1980. Between 1965 and 2012, his All American Racers, which he founded with Carroll Shelby and Goodyear, built 158 race cars and is the only constructor to have built a winning F1 Grand Prix car, a winning Indy 500 car and a winning Sports Car. Ford Recalls '13 Escape For 11th Time
Fri, Aug 15 2014Only in dealer showrooms for two years now, the 2013 Ford Escape has already been recalled for safety hazards 11 times. The most recent recall for the beleaguered vehicle came Friday, when the company announced it was recalling almost 160,000 Escapes and Focus ST hatchbacks from the '13 and '14 model years because of a wiring problem that could cause the engine to stall. Caused by a faulty wiring harness, Ford said the defect could result in reduced power, hesitation or outright stalling. The company said it knew of no crashes or injuries caused by the flaw. Customers affected will be notified by mail. It was the latest problem for a vehicle beset by recalls from the moment it started rolling off the assembly lines. Starting on July 6, 2012, the '13 Escapes have been recalled for an assortment of problems, including multiple hazards with fuel lines that could result in engine fires, fluid leaks in the engine that could also result in fires, problems with engines overheating, delays in airbags deploying and more. Ken Block and friends race light in silly-beautiful Castrol commercial
Wed, 28 May 2014How does one make fast, loud, drifting cars better? Well, you can add more fast, loud, drifting cars or you can add lasers. Either or, really. In this case, Castrol did the right thing and added both, creating a highly stylized commercial for its Edge Titanium motor oil starring South African racer Adrian Zaugg, BMW factory driver Augusto Farfus, Audi DTM and Le Mans staple Mike Rockenfeller and some bloke named Ken Block.
Their cars? No surprise, but Block is in his Ford Fiesta GRC, while Zaugg samples a Lamborghini Aventador and Farfus and Rockenfeller drive along party lines, with a BMW M4 and an Audi R8, respectively. And those cars look good, too, thanks to the creative light and laser work on display.
Take a look below for the video from Castrol.
