My loss, somebody's gain.  I am selling a flawless 2004 SVT Cobra, aka the "Terminator".  Supercharged 4.6L.  It is the highly desirable Competition Orange, the rarest color produced and only available in 2004.  Of 3768 Cobras made in 2004, only 281 were Competition Orange.  Exterior is flawless.  No rock chips, no dings.  Beautiful, as-new clear coat.  Clean, detailed engine bay.  Turns heads everywhere I've been.  You know what this car is, and I'll skip the technical issues. I am the second owner.

Interior in VG condition.  There is some visible, normal wear to driver's seat. Carpet is excellent, but carpet "cobra mat" on driver's side shows wear.

Here's the sad but true story: I am a collector.  I purchased the car on April 20 last month, after looking for some time for an excellent condition, unmodified Comp Orange '04 Cobra.  I paid $24,900.  The price was non-negotiable by seller.  I tried to get a lower price, and I was paying cash, but no success.  So maybe I paid a high price, but it seemed in the mid-to-upper range of what these cars sell for, not taking into account the value for the rare color.  And the car looked fantastic and drove great.  It had 54,758 miles.  I drove it 350 miles to my home in Virginia, and have added another 450 miles.

Then, a little over a week ago the unexpected happened--I found a 2004 Comp Orange Cobra Convertible for sale, the rarest of the 03-04 cars.  Only 71 were made.  I've been looking for one of these, in stock condition, for some time.  I struck a deal immediately (for a higher price than my coupe).  This convertible will be delivered in two weeks, and I need to make space for it.  I have over 15 cars, and there is just no more garage space.

I installed new OEM headlights and taillights for VA state inspection.  The car had tinted lens and would not pass VA state inspection.  Cost was around $680.  I have added a OEM license plate holder to front bumper, per VA dual-plate requirements.

I am selling this car with a low reserve.  It is one of those opportunities to pick up a great deal because the seller (me) has to let it go.

There are many photos, taken at locations where I have different homes.  The car is located in Luray, VA area.  The title is clean with no liens.

The fuel mileage is rated at 17 city and 24 highway, which is phenomenal considering the performance.  There is a great book--Iron Fist, Lead Foot--about the SVT team and the making of the 2003-04 Terminator.  It is a great story, and the rarity of the 2003-04 Cobras becomes very evident.  As you probably know, these engines were hand-built by teams of two people at the Romeo, MI Ford plant.

A $1000 deposit is required within 24 hours of a winning bid.  Thank you.

Feds looking into Ford Explorer exhaust leak complaints

Fri, 20 Jun 2014

There may be a burgeoning problem with exhaust leaks in the 2011-2014 model year Ford Explorer. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is examining multiple complaints of a gasoline smell in the cabin of these SUVs. However, the exact cause of this problem is still unknown.
"The agency is reviewing all available data and will take appropriate action as warranted," said a NHTSA spokesperson in an email to Automotive News. Owners seem to generally complain on the regulator's website of the smell entering the cabin through the air vents. At this time, the government organization has not yet opened an official investigation into the problem, though. When it does begin inspecting vehicles, NHTSA posts a detailed breakdown of its public data online.
Similar problems have been reported about the Explorer in the past, though. In 2013, Ford issued a recall for the 2013 model year of the SUV due to a fuel leak that could cause drivers to smell a gasoline odor and repaired them again later for another possible leak. In response to Autoblog's questions, Ford responded via email: "We are not aware of a NHTSA investigation. We are currently reviewing the case and in the event that any action is required, we will address it promptly."

The U-2 spy plane needs high-performance cars to help land

Thu, Oct 15 2015

Typically, aircraft deploy their landing gear from three main points. Most military aircraft, for example, deploy two gears at the back and one forward, like a tricycle. Some civilian aircraft flip the layout, with two in front and one in back - tail-draggers. The U-2 Dragon Lady is wildly different than any of these. With a 103-foot wingspan but a body that's just 63-feet long, the layout of the U-2 makes a traditional landing setup infeasible. Instead, the U-2 utilizes a pair of wheels, one up front and one in back. With such a bizarre layout, landings are so tough that since the U-2's earliest flights at Area 51, the US Air Force has used high-performance chase cars to guide the pilot down safely. The landing process isn't over there, though. As this video from Sploid shows, balancing out the aircraft to fit the detachable "pogos" – think training wheels for spy planes – is a comical procedure requiring a number of airman using their full body weight to even out the U-2. This video also recaps some of the great vehicles that have served as chase vehicles for this legendary spy plane. They include Chevrolet El Caminos, and the Fox-body Ford Mustangs so favored by the California Highway Patrol. For the last several years, the USAF has utilized products from General Motors, using fourth-generation Chevy Camaros, before switching over to the Pontiac GTO and most recently, the awesome Pontiac G8. It's fair to say that if you're a gearhead in the Air Force, this is the job you want. Check out the video, embedded up top. 2014 Ford Cobra Jet announced with new colors, parachute mount

Fri, 22 Mar 2013

Ford's drag-strip-ready Mustang Cobra Jet is back for 2014, and it's sporting a few changes to make it even better - both in competition and while sitting still. Rolling off the assembly line ready for duty in the NHRA Stock or Super Stock classes, production of the 2014 Cobra Jet is limited to just 50 units.
Racing upgrades for 2014 include the addition of a new three-speed transmission and a parachute mount, and while these will make the car better in the quarter mile, the Cobra Jet's new colors will make it look better tearing down the track. Buyers can now get their racecars painted up in Gotta Have-It Green or a custom, Cobra Jet-exclusive matte black hue. Ford and Ford Racing have already teamed up to make this an incredible factory drag racer with a full rollcage, massive Hoosier slicks, a race-tuned suspension setup and a supercharged 5.0-liter V8. Now, if only wheelie bars came standard...
Unlike the confusing third-party ordering system announced for the COPO Camaro, all you need to snatch up a 2014 Cobra Jet is $97,990 and good timing (as the cars will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis). Ordering opens up next month with production commencing in July. Check out the press release below.
