Next Ford F-150 delayed for aluminum body panel issues?
Wed, 11 Dec 2013The timetable for next-generation Ford F-150 may be in trouble if a report from The Truth About Cars is true. The next F-150 is slated to make extensive use of weight-saving aluminum in its body, but the aluminum alloy provided by suppliers hasn't met Ford's requirements in the earliest phases of pre-production, according to the report.
The F-150 represents a huge portion of Ford's profits and is the best-selling truck in the US, even in the face of increased pressure from cross-town rivals General Motors and Ram. While the current truck is treading water against its competition, we'd be lying if we said the F-150 weren't growing quite long in the tooth.
If production of the next-generation of the Ford cash cow, said to be based on the Atlas Concept from the 2013 Detroit Auto Show (pictured above), is delayed, it could be bad for Ford. Production at Ford's Dearborn Truck Plant is already set to be delayed six to ten weeks, missing an internal on-sale deadline of Memorial Day.
Ford recalls Five Hundred, Mercury Montego sedans over fuel tank woes
Mon, 18 Jul 2011Ford has announced through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is recalling nearly 3,000 examples of its Five Hundred and Mercury Montego (pictured) sedans from the 2007 model year.
The action, which affects 2,945 vehicles, is due to potentially defective welds between the filler neck and the fuel tank, a condition that could result in a fuel leak or the smell of gasoline reaching the occupants. In the worst-case scenario, a leak could cause a fire. Cars with the affected fuel tank problem could see an illuminated dashboard warning light as a result of the evaporative emissions leak being detected.
Ford will inspect and replace the fuel tank at no cost to owners (those who have already had the procedure done at-cost can apply for reimbursement), and the Dearborn automaker will begin notifying Five Hundred and Montego owners beginning August 15. Tue, Jun 2 2015With only 137 examples to be built this year, it may be a while before you get the chance to hear the new Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang clear its throat. Fortunately the boys at the Blue Oval have got that part covered, at least in part, with the release of this video. The short clip is only 25 seconds long, but shows the new track-tuned pony car revving its 5.2-liter V8 heart away on the track. And with output in excess of 500 horses and 400 pound-feet of torque, boy can she sing. This isn't actually the first time we're hearing the new GT350 kick over altogether, but the previous video was taken down shortly after it went up – and that was for the non-R version anyway. This, then, represents the first time to hear the new top-of-the-line pony car doing its thang, and we hope it'll stick around long enough at least for you to get an ear-full. So turn up the speakers, sit back, and hit play to hear the soundtrack that no artificially amplified turbo four will ever manage to replace.
