1986 Mustang GT Convertible

Secon
d Owner, Original Paint, No Rust, Survivor Car

I bought the car 5 years ago from the original owner in North Carolina, where it spent it's entire life.  The car is umolested and even still had the factory air silencer when I bought it.  The body is dry and straight no dings or dents.   The Car Fax does not have any issues and the car has never been a wreck.  The paint is in excellent condition and has a few chips on the front of the hood and a small couple of stain marks on the front bumper (shown in the pictures).   There is one small hole in the convertible top on the passenger side, but other than that, the orginal top has no other defects and goes up and down without issue.  The interior is complete with no marks or stains.  Even the red piping on the driver's seat is in great condition and really does not show any wear. The engine runs great and does not burn or leak any oil.  Transmission and clutch are fine with no slipping or grinding.  Overall, the car is a blast to drive and not given me any issues.

Here is a list of what I have done to the car, since I have had it:
  • New Chome Pony Wheels with Nitto 450 tires <1000 miles
  • Tune-up - Plugs, wires, cap and rotor
  • Under drive pullies
  • K&N Filter
  • New interior carpet (found the build sheet)
  • A/C changed to R134a
  • All new cooling hoses
  • New front brakes (have rears that need to be put on)
  • Steeda short throw shifter with stock boot and MGWLTD shift knob

Less than 1000 of 1D Smoke colored convertibles were produced that year.  I looked for 4-5 years off and on to find one this clean.  Only reason that I am selling it is that I have too many toys and something has to go.  Not in a hurry to sell, so please no low ball offers.

All original parts included - wheels w/ tires, shifter, pullies & airbox

Car is for sale locally and reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time.

Happy bidding....

How privacy fears are driving automakers in the age of the connected car [w/poll]

Wed, Aug 27 2014

A recent GAO report concluded car companies don't adequately disclose how and why they share location data. As cars collect and store more and more data about the whereabouts of their drivers, automakers are responding to critics who say they should be more transparent about how those details are used. Ford is hiring a global privacy policy attorney to craft the company's customer privacy policies in the era of connected and autonomous cars. "In this emerging space, there is an important need to address customer privacy policies," reads a job description posted on the "people and careers" portion of the company's website. "As part of our compliance and ethics organization at Ford, this person will have an immediate and direct impact in shaping existing and future policy and corporate thinking in this area." Ford is creating the new position, based at its Dearborn headquarters, at a time technology advances are outpacing privacy protections. Earlier this year, a report from the federal government concluded car companies don't adequately disclose to motorists how and why they share location data. That report, from the Government Accountability Office, found many car companies did not describe how they shared location data, did not allow consumers to request their data be deleted and that there was a "wide variation" in how car companies retained vehicle-specific or identifiable location data. It noted there is increased risk of location data being used in ways "consumers did not intend." Ford was one of 10 companies the GAO surveyed while compiling its report. Customers are opting to share that data largely by using features like maps and turn-by-turn direction that are run by a vehicle's telematics unit. Depending on the company, it can be unclear how that data is collected, retained or shared. At the time the GAO report was issued, AAA, the nation's largest motoring club, urged carmakers to be more transparent in how they handle data and to offer stronger security protections. Shaping Autonomous Car Regulations At Ford, the new hire could change how the company handles that data. According to the job description, the successful applicant will, "demonstrate visionary thinking around privacy strategy – imagine how consumer and employee expectations around privacy may evolve and how business should adapt, develop approaches that maximize the benefit of data sharing for consumers and business, etc." (Emphasis from Ford).

MotorWeek relives '80s coupes with Dodge Daytona, Ford Escort EXP

Thu, Aug 6 2015

Get ready for a wave of nostalgia and the rapid realization of the huge progress in performance cars over the last 30 years. For its latest Retro Review, MotorWeek takes a look back at two, front-wheel drive coupes from the '80s that seem to have entirely vanished from the roads today. Both the 1986 Dodge Daytona CS and the 1986.5 Ford Escort EXP were considered affordable, sporty options in their day, but the passage of time hasn't been kind to either of their specs. The Daytona certainly looks the part of a performance machine with a body that's reminiscent of other '80s coupes, like the third-gen Chevrolet Camaro. However with 146 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque from a 2.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, acceleration wasn't exactly a strong suit. MotorWeek complained about copious torque steer, as well. The optional CS suspension upgrade package on this Daytona was apparently a nod to Carroll Shelby who was working with Dodge at the time. If anything, the Escort EXP withstands the test of time even worse. As a two-seat coupe, you might have expected Ford's engineers to really turn up the performance to fit the sporty image that the exterior conveyed. That didn't really happen, and depending on which model buyers ordered, they got either 86 horsepower with a 1.9-liter engine or the "high-output" version of that mill with 108 hp.

Ford brings FPV Falcon production in house [w/video]

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

For the first time since 1976, Ford of Australia is bringing the assembly of its stonking Ford Performance Vehicle line back in-house to the company's Broadmeadows and Geelong facilities. That's a point of pride for FPV, which builds high-performance versions of the Australian Falcon model like the F6, GS and the heroic GT seen here.
In the video below, we hear FPV employees talking in hushed tones about the important legacy that cars like the GT have for Australian gearheads of all stripes, and how proud they are to say that hand-built machines like this GT R-Spec with its Boss 355 engine are now rolling out of their home base. For our part, we're just dying to drive this version of the Coyote V8; the engine is rocking a "Miami" supercharger from Harrop and makes some 450 horsepower.
Continue on below for the video, or you can check out some images of the new FPV at the facility, as well as a gallery of the GT R-Spec car.
