Really nice car I purchased. Odometer reads 111,000. It may be accurate, I do not know. I have done many improvements and ready to move on to new projects. Not looking for any trades. Thanks. Great collection edition to you Ford folks out there. Not a perfect frame off car. Older restoration and very well maintained. Great enjoyable driver. I'm very confident you could pick up and drive home. I am in the Birmingham Alabama area can help arrange local area pick up/shipping at buyers expense.

I do not have a lot of history on this great old Ford XL Convertible. I have owned it a couple of years. I bought it from a guy who drove for a while. He purchased it from a widow whose husband restored the car a while ago. I'm pretty sure the car spent it's life in the Maryland area. The vin is 0E61Y214610. the trim tag reads Body 76B Col T Trim 1A Axle K Trans V DSU 17 please excuse any typos.
I've been on many sites and what I can tell it's an original red exterior, black interior car with a V8 390-2V big block. 270 hp 9.5:1 compression... I believe the motor may be the original one and was rebuilt along the way. The restoration to me looks like it was done well, however not a frame off. Old factory a/c works well. Blower fan squeaks at first and goes quiet. The engine was a leaky mess when I got it and this what I did: new steering gear, intake gasket, heater hose, antifreeze, carb kit(it currently has a holly carb), valve cover gaskets, exhaust manifold gaskets, exhaust pipe gaskets. It has strait pipe exhaust that has been on for a while. Quite the hot rod sound. I've put $1500 in the engine compartment. Leak and trouble free now. The big block really performs.

The exterior looks really nice. The paint shows little wear. It's a brighter red, not sure if it's ford factory color. The bumper's do have some pitting and cracking up close, 5 foot range and would have to be re- chromed for show quality. I included some close up photos. The rest of the chrome is good. Hide away lights perform perfectly. The trunk does not have a spare tire, it does have jack, etc. The original rim/hubcaps cleaned up great. Very minor pitting, you could fill in black accents where desired. The tires have good tread and are just an off brand. The top is brand new, the old one was ok but the cross bows were bad so it looked like a bubble going down the road. Unfortunately that's one unit, so a costly replacement. I saved back glass window and re used. The top is the high quality cloth type. The cylinders and hydraulic lines have been replaced and it works fantastic. $1500. I bought a convertible boot to put on, but have never used it. Comes with the sale.

The interior really looks great. The seats are older covered, still look good, I repaired/replaced several rips and re padded drivers sagging area. The carpet is new. It has black rubber mat covers. Somewhere down the line a fm/cd player was installed under the dash with a 6 changer in the trunk. Obviously older. All works well. Replaced FM antenna. Radio works well Good speakers flush mounts in the front doors under grill cover and  high end tweeters in the pillar post. The original am/fm radio in dash turns on but no sound. The glass running vertically over original radio is cracked. The best thing done to make this car look fantastic was I found a great interior guy who recovered the dash pad. Unique dash that would be nearly impossible to replace. The original was good with typical non pleasing cracks over time.  You will have to see to believe how outstanding it looks. All dash board instruments work well. I've replace most of the rubber moulding where I could as needed.

I am putting it in at auction format and letting it run with a reserve. I will end it early for $14,000 firm, let me know.

Rising aluminum costs cut into Ford's profit

Wed, Jan 24 2018

When Ford reports fourth-quarter results on Wednesday afternoon, it is expected to fret that rising metals costs have cut into profits, even as rivals say they have the problem under control. Aluminum prices have risen 20 percent in the last year and nearly 11 percent since Dec. 11. Steel prices have risen just over 9 percent in the last year. Ford uses more aluminum in its vehicles than its rivals. Aluminum is lighter but far more expensive than steel, closing at $2,229 per tonne on Tuesday. U.S. steel futures closed at $677 per ton (0.91 metric tonnes). Republican U.S. President Donald Trump's administration is weighing whether to impose tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, which could push prices even higher. Ford gave a disappointing earnings estimate for 2017 and 2018 last week, saying the higher costs for steel, aluminum and other metals, as well as currency volatility, could cost the company $1.6 billion in 2018. Ford shares took a dive after the announcement. Ford Chief Financial Officer Bob Shanks told analysts at a conference in Detroit last week that while the company benefited from low commodity prices in 2016, rising steel prices were now the main cause of higher costs, followed by aluminum. Shanks said the automaker at times relies on foreign currencies as a "natural hedge" for some commodities but those are now going in the opposite direction, so they are not working. A Ford spokesman added that the automaker also uses a mix of contracts, hedges and indexed buying. Industry analysts point to the spike in aluminum versus steel prices as a plausible reason for Ford's problems, especially since it uses far more of the expensive metal than other major automakers. "When you look at Ford in the context of the other automakers, aluminum drives a lot of their volume and I think that is the cause" of their rising costs, said Jeff Schuster, senior vice president of forecasting at auto consultancy LMC Automotive. Other major automakers say rising commodity costs are not much of a problem. At last week's Detroit auto show, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV's Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne reiterated its earnings guidance for 2018 and held forth on a number of topics, but did not mention metals prices. General Motors Co gave a well-received profit outlook last week and did not mention the subject. "We view changes in raw material costs as something that is manageable," a GM spokesman said in an email.

2015 Ford F-150 shaves 700 pounds, adds 2.7-liter EcoBoost [w/video]

Mon, 13 Jan 2014

The Ford F-150 is one of the best selling vehicles on the planet. Considering that, one can imagine that when it comes time for a redesign, there are hardly any half measures. For its lucky thirteenth generation, Ford has gone all-in on the single most important vehicle in its portfolio, redesigning it from the ground up.
The big news is the F-150's new, lightweight, Atlas-inspired body. Ninety-three percent of that new body is made from a sort of aluminum alloy not unlike what the US military uses in its M2 Bradley fighting vehicles and Humvees, and it accounts for up to 70 percent of the F-150's 700-pound weight reduction. As a side benefit, the aluminum body should prove more resistant to dents and dings. Built Ford tough, indeed.
If you're wondering where the other 30 percent of that 700-pound weight loss went, 8.5 percent (60 pounds) came from the increased use of high-strength steel (up from 23 percent to 77 percent) in its ladder-box frame. Ford claims this steel is comparable to some of the heavy duty pickups used by its competitors, with a PSI rating of 70,000.

Seinfeld's Porsches, '61 Ferrari lead the way at Gooding Amelia Island sale

Tue, Mar 1 2016

If you're in the market for a sports car with celebrity provenance or just an incredibly well-preserved high-performance machine, then you'll want to check out Gooding & Company's Amelia Island auction in Florida on March 11. The highlight of the sale is likely 18 cars, mostly Porsches, from Jerry Seinfeld's collection, but there's more to see than just the comedian's sporting metal. While several of Seinfeld's cars carry auction estimates in the millions, they aren't the most valuable at the sale. That honor falls on a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider, which could sell for between $15 million and $17 million. This one is among the 37 examples with covered headlights, and it has some theatrical provenance after appearing in the Sophia Loren film Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow. If your tastes skew more American, then one of 31 Ford GT40 MKI road cars is also among the lots. Gooding expects the rare coupe to sell for between $3.2 million and $3.6 million. Ford originally used this GT40 for dealer promotions, but it eventually fell into private hands. Even today, its multiple owners have only covered around 3,200 miles in it. Gooding also expects a 1931 Duesenberg Model J Disappearing-Top Convertible Coupe with a body by Murphy to bring $2.5 million to $3 million. The auction house claims this might be the "most original" example left because of a history of owners who kept it for long periods – and the vehicle never needed a complete restoration. Some lots carry more attainable estimates like $35,000 for a 1962 MGA. You can check out all the listings on Gooding's online catalog and some of the highlights in the gallery above. You've probably read the news about Seinfeld's Porsches, but here's a refresher: The collection includes amazing cars like a 550 Spyder, 917/30 Can-Am Spyder, and a 718 RSK. Related Video:
