I have been wanting a Skyliner for over 30 years, so when this one got listed locally I quickly bought it before checking it out thoroughly. As it turned out, it is a bigger project than I think I'm currently capable of.  It is very rusty underneath and probably needs its frame replaced. I'm not an expert by any means, so I might be mistaken.  However, if it doesn't  need to be replaced, it definitely needs major repair. I have an available frame with a '59 wagon and was told it would interchange, but, after buying the car, have been convinced that it is not a direct interchange. As a result, I am making this car available for someone more able than I am.

The frame is rusty.  The floor pans have some rust, but they are not all rusted out. The eyebrows above the headlights are rusted through.  Also, the driver's door sags due to rust. I don't think the trunk floor is rusted out.

I have put a battery in it and cranked it over. It acted like it wants to run, but I haven't tinkered with it enough to get it to actually run. With a battery in it, I cannot get the top mechanism to operate.  I have no idea how to test it and its various parts.  I have not had the trunk lid open, so I don't know that everything is there, but from what I can see, nothing seems to be missing of its top components.

It has most, if not all, of its trim pieces, but they are all pitted.  Once again, I'm not an expert so I don't know how useable everything is.  It has had its left front brake shoes and such removed so the car can be rolled around. (I had no problem loading it on my trailer with a come-along.)

The interior is rough, but mostly, if not entirely, complete.

Please do your homework on shipping before bidding. I live just outside Blanding, UT 84511 which is a long way from a major shipping hub.  In fact, I'm located almost the same distance from Salt Lake City, Denver, Albuquerque and Phoenix.  It is pricey and difficult to ship cars out of here, so please check into it before bidding. The buyer is responsible for arranging and paying for shipping, but I will help load and accommodate the shipper as much as possible. I would like to have the car hauled within 2 weeks of sale, but that is negotiable -- I really don't have a good place to store it safely.

There is a $200 non-refundable deposit due through Paypal within 48 hours of auction close. The buyer and I can then make arrangements for the remainder of the payment.  The total balance will need to be paid before the car will be shipped.

I have a clear Utah title to the car in my name.

For additional pictures and information, please email me through Ebay or call me at 435-459-0591.

I encourage any potential buyers to personally come and inspect the vehicle prior to bidding.

Ford Mustang 50th anniversary edition brings in $170k

Tue, 30 Sep 2014

Just the other day, we reported on the first Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat selling for a whopping $825,000 at auction. But impressive as that sum was, the Challenger wasn't the only sought-after modern muscle car to cross the Barrett-Jackson auction block in Las Vegas this past weekend. So did this rare Ford Mustang.
The last of 1,964 special-edition 50 Years Limited Edition pony cars sold for a princely $170,000, with proceeds benefiting the Edith and Benson Ford Heart & Vascular Institute, a branch of the Henry Ford Health System.
The pony car in question is based on the 2015 Ford Mustang GT and upgrades with a performance package and nearly every option on the book, along with a unique appearance package to set it apart in celebration of the Mustang's 50th anniversary. It's available in two exclusive shades - Wimbledon white or Kona blue - with either a manual or automatic transmission. Only 1,964 highly symbolic examples were to be built, and this was the last of them.

NHTSA upgrades Ford floor mat unintended acceleration probe

Mon, 17 Dec 2012

According to a Bloomberg report, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has upgraded an investigation into complaints of unintended acceleration lodged against Ford vehicles. The investigation began in June of 2010 when just three complaints had been received and it only concerned the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, but this was at a time when the phrase "unintended acceleration" made grown men go pale. With 49 additional complaints received since then, the investigation has been reclassified as an engineering analysis - the last phase before a recall - and it has been expanded to include the Lincoln MKZ, making for a total of "around 480,000" units affected between the three sedans from the 2008 to 2010 model years.
The ostensible cause is that floor mats are trapping the accelerator pedal, but according to a Ford statement at the time, the entrapment is due to owners placing the optional all-weather floor mats, or aftermarket floor mats, on top of the car's standard floor mats. NHTSA has backed up that assessment, pinning the blame on "unsecured or double stacked floor mats."
On the face of it, it would appear that NHTSA has upgraded the status not because of Ford's error, but owner error, and Ford has stated publicly that it is "disappointed" in NHTSA's move. On top of NHTSA still being skittish after that other unintended acceleration debacle, it could be seen to be taking its time investigating all of the variables: it's reported that Ford changed its accelerator pedal design in 2010, a "heel blocker" in the floorpan has been considered a potential culprit in how the floor mats could be trapping the pedal, some drivers have said the floor mats weren't anywhere near the pedal, and according to a report in the LA Times, in "a letter sent by Ford to NHTSA in August 2010, the automaker said it found three injuries and one fatality that 'may have resulted from the alleged defect.'"

Autotrader picks best cars for 2015's college grads

Sun, May 31 2015

Summer is here and the school season is winding to a close. That means millions of students will be graduating college and (hopefully) entering the workforce. For many, that will mean buying a new car suited to the new stage in life into which they will now be embarking. That can be a bewildering choice, especially for someone who's never bought a car before. Fortunately, Autotrader has come up with a short list of recommended cars – new and used – which it recommends to the graduating class of 2015. Among the site's top choices are some compelling crossovers and hatchbacks, including the Buick Encore, Chevy Trax, and Jeep Renegade, as well as the Honda Fit, Nissan Versa Note, Mazda3 and Fiat 500. Can't stretch to buying new, or don't see the point? Autotrader has also identified the Toyota Camry, Ford Fusion and even the Lexus IS as smart buys in the certified pre-owned category. "Any time someone goes through a major life change, such as graduating college, they need to determine if their current ride makes sense for their lifestyle, from both a financial and functional perspective," says Autotrader editor Brian Moody. "For example, while that hand-me-down SUV from your parents was nice when you turned 16, you may want to opt for a safer, more fuel-efficient car as you transition into the working world." Autotrader Names 10 Best Cars for Recent College Graduates ATLANTA, May 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- For many, graduating college is a milestone like no other – it represents a new chapter, a proud accomplishment and, fortunately or unfortunately, financial independence. Luckily for graduates who are in the market for a new car to suit their post-college lifestyle, Autotrader's expert editors say now is a great time to make a purchase, as dealerships are flush with affordable models that are fun, fuel-efficient and thoughtfully designed. Autotrader Logo "Any time someone goes through a major life change, such as graduating college, they need to determine if their current ride makes sense for their lifestyle, from both a financial and functional perspective," said Brian Moody, site editor for Autotrader.
