2004 Ford Freestar Sel Mini Passenger Van 4-door 4.2l, Pioneer Audio Nav, Hitch on 2040-cars
Belle Mead, New Jersey, United States
This is my 2004 Ford Freestar SEL with 112,700 mile on it. The exterior is Arizona Beige Metallic and the interior has Pebble cloth seating. The car is running great and it's been a very reliable vehicle. With the 4.2 engine it has lots of power if you want to tow, carry heavy loads or quick entry onto highways. Upgraded features are a Pioneer AVIC F-700BT in-dash Audio, hands-free Phone, backup camera, and Navigation system, a heavy duty Class 3 hitch. The backup camera is brand new. The Pioneer also has a mini phone jack input on front. and RCA jack for audio/video in back. External seat back displays, can be added. The Pioneer plays DVDs/CD etc and has a memory card slot for additional media playing. There is a keyless entry pad on the drivers door and I have two keys and remotes.
The hitch was installed new but never used to tow anything. It is rated for 3500 lbs trailer weight and 350 lbs tongue weight. It was only used for a hitch bike rack. The two center sliding doors are motor powered and automatically open/close with a button or the key remote. There is a backup sensor alarm. and it has a low tire pressure warning system. All tire are good and worn evenly, it has roof racks that are great for canoe/kayak carrying. I took it to the FORD dealer three weeks ago and they installed a new transmission torque converter and rear seat bracket latches under a recall. I have generally serviced and maintain my own vehicles and important service performed is 5/14, new passenger window motor, 6/13/13 fuel filter and new coil pack, new driver rear brake caliper, new front and rear brake pads, bleed all brake lines and new brake fluid, new air filter, injectors cleaned, 9/15/12 new passenger rear brake caliper. 12/10/11 93,792 miles complete tune up, plugs, wires and 5/11 new serpentine belt, new power steering pump,, new idler pulley, new camshaft syncronizer, and 7/30/11 new rear wheel hubs and speed sensors replaced. A new battery was installed last month. Routine oil, filters, transmission maintenance service has been done. Overall this Freestar has needed minimal service. I'm also including a free new set of front wheel hubs and sensors that I did not get around to installing. The front hubs are fine, but since I already changed the rears, I wanted to also do the fronts. Any car mechanic can easily install them for you if needed. The Freestar was used mostly by me in my medical equipment service business. My wife drove it for the last couple of years. We don't have young kids or animals, so the inside and seats are in good shape, very clean. The rear seat folds into a rear recess and the two captains chairs fold forward or completely remove making a lot of cargo space with a flat floor. The Pioneer in-dash navigation/phone and audio sounds great and a microphone is mounted on top of the steering wheel column for easy to use, clear voice hands-free phone through Bluetooth. Other than average use wear, the more obvious things to point out are the plastic pull handle on the rear seat is broken, The front two 12 volt power receptacles don't work and are broken inside. Replacement receptacles can be found on-line for about $10. and the center bottom base where they are mounted comes out with a couple of screws. I had an IPHONE years ago and a cable is routed to the top dash but I don't know if this cable works any more as I have not had an IPHONE for about five years. If needed, this cable is $30. There are a couple of rust spot areas as shown in the photos. I was going to grind, patch and repaint these areas but just don't have the time to do it, there is a crack in the lower driver side bumper/fog light. there is a barely visible dent in the driver side fender, which I hand pushed back out and is pretty close (no pain damage). There is a 1/2" rock ding in the windshield. It's been there for five years and has not extended further. There is a long scratch on the passanger side door plastic moulding. There is some flaking of the clearcoat paint topcoat on the top of one of the sliding doors. Recently a trac off lamp lights intermittently, I search on-line and the problem is related to some loose or oxidized connectors , I cleaned these and it seems to have stopped but, if needed, the other solution is a replacing a $30. pressure sensor. I think I got everything but there could be others but I do try to be as honest as I can. This would be a great/reliable vehicle for a small business or a great family van. It's been a great vehicle for us. |

Ford Escort testing, may be bound for Europe
Tue, 01 Apr 2014There has been little news about Ford's China-focused Escort concept since debuting at last year's Shanghai Motor Show, but the no-frills sedan has shown its camouflaged face again during cold weather testing in Northern Sweden. While far from a guarantee, the test location might hint that the Blue Oval plans to market the car outside of Asia.
The Escort's black robe and zebra paint make it hard to tell if anything specific has changed about the design, but the shape of the sedan looks close to what was shown in Shanghai. Under the disguise, you can still make out the hexagonal front grille from the concept. When Ford announced the model, the company said that the design wasn't supposed to be "arrogant or pretentious," and it certainly achieved that. The engine range is still a mystery, but it seems safe to expect small, economy-focused powertrains.
A report from last year indicated that Ford may be considering broadening the new Escort beyond Asia and possibly even selling it in Europe. The fact that the company brought it to Sweden for testing could bolster that argument. A release date hasn't been set yet, but the automaker has promised 15 new products for China by 2015. The basic sedan could be on the road soon.
Ford, Ram in heavy-duty towing spat
Mon, 28 Jul 2014Every pickup truck commercial has the brand trying to convince us that its model is the biggest, brawniest vehicle on the block. But Ford and Ram appear ready to really throw down the gauntlet and scrap over the towing figures for their heavy-duty models, and it could potentially end up in court.
The issue revolves around what it means to be best in class. Ford claims that its 2015 F-450 (pictured above) has a max tow rating of 31,200 pounds, compared to 30,000 pounds for the Ram 3500 (right). However, both companies market these heavy haulers as having the top towing in their class. According to Automotive News, Ford is threatening legal action if Ram doesn't back down.
The situation isn't as simple as just comparing the numbers, though. First, the two companies calculate their towing capacities differently. Ram adheres to the SAE J2807 rating, while Ford uses its own internal system. Although, as the company introduces new models, they are certified using the SAE standard. "When an all-new F-Series Super Duty is introduced, it also will use SAE J2807," said Ford to Autoblog in an emailed statement.
