What can I say other than we have loved this car but purchased a sedan, again at Carmax, last week because our second of four begins college soon. We are down sizing to help finances.
No other car I know can seat 8 (8 SEAT BELTS) comfortably (no raised floor in third row) and no-kidding drive like a sports car. However, depending on how you drive the gas mileage is actually better than any equivalent vehicle do to the twin turbos. Great for sports gear and family road trips in full comfort. Massive room for cargo and tow package though never used!
Gorgeous colors with sun roofs in all three rows. Someone told us the engine picks up and goes like a Porshe Cayenne. But we have babied it and changed only synthetic oil every 3-5K religiously. Even our kids have shed tears over the sale of this car.
125K FULLY TRANSFERABLE CARMAX WARRANTY--SO NO WORRIES IN THE FIRST YEAR. I DO NEED TO MAKE SURE THE WARRANTY REMAINS AFTER WE REFINANCES A FEW MONTHS AGO. IT DEFINITELY SHOULD BE ACCORDING TO CARMAX BUT THEY COULD NOT TALK TO USAA BANK ON THE WEEKEND WHEN WE WERE THERE.
OTHER: SONY PREMIUM SOUND, BUILT IN LARGE GPS/MEDIA, BACK-UP CAMERA, DON'T FORGET ALL WHEEL DRIVE. SEATS ARE VERY COMFORTABLE WITH ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES INCLUDING LUMBAR SUPPORT AND HEATED FRONT SEATS.
Anyway, this is a near perfect car. Carmax inspected two weeks ago and I feel they low-balled us due to mileage. This car runs and drives like it was just broken in! I have no doubt it will go 200-300K miles if the next owner takes care of it like we have.
Finally, I wanted to repaint the wheels but my wife likes silver and I like black. For $300-400 extra we will have the wheels painted. We will also replace the front tires if you wish but this can also be a personal preference. It has Hankook tires and that is what we would put on it. Also, some people would put different wheels on this gorgeous car so I did not want to waste money on these things right now.
THIS CAR DOES IT ALL IMPOSSIBLY WELL AND LIKE NOTHING ELSE WHILE DOING IT IN STYLE. FINALLY, GO DRIVE ONE! WE ARE NOT A DEALER AND I WORK 60HRS PER WEEK SO PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS SPARINGLY. MY WIFE WILL ANSWER BUT I'M THE "CAR GUY" IN THE FAMILY.
Finally, there is a lean on this car with USAA Fed so there will be a short delay to get the title. UP TO TWO WEEKS IN MY EXPERIENCE. WANTED YOU TO KNOW THIS UP FRONT!

Ford says C-Max mpg reduction has hurt sales
Tue, 22 Apr 2014The Ford C-Max is having a rough time. Sales for the five-door hybrid hatchback were down 39.1 percent in March to 2,295 cars, and sales from January through March were down 42.5 percent to 5,566 units. In an interview with The Detroit News, Ford Americas boss Joe Hinrichs places the blame on lowering the model's fuel economy rating.
"We're definitely seeing consideration on C-Max decline over time. We need to reinvest in the product because it's a great car," said Hinrichs to The Detroit News.
The company was hit with bad publicity over the C-Max when owners in multiple states filed class action lawsuits that alleged the cars weren't able to meet the stated fuel economy. Ford eventually re-rated the model from 47 miles per gallon city, highway and combined to 40 mpg city, 45 mpg highway and 43 mpg combined. To soften the blow of the change, the automaker sent checks to the owners to make up some of the difference. Initially, Ford claimed that demand remained strong for the hybrid. However, the latest sales figures and Hinrichs' statement seem to show the opposite.
Junkyard Gem: 1991 Mercury Capri
Mon, Sep 19 2016Ford has gotten a lot of use out of the Capri name in the United States. First, there was the Lincoln Capri in the 1950s, followed by the Ford Capri Mk1 (which was sold by Mercury dealers in the USA but never actually badged as a Mercury). Then came the 1979-1986 Mercury Capri, built on the very successful Fox Platform and essentially a clone of the Mustang. Finally, in 1991, the Australian Ford Capri came to the United States. Here is an example of this rare car that I spotted in a Northern California self-service yard not long ago. Mechanically speaking, the 1991-1994 Capri was a Mazda 323 under the skin, complete with a member of the same B-series engine family that went into such cars as the Miata and Ford Escort. So, for a few years in the early 1990s, car shoppers who wanted a sporty Mazda convertible could choose between a Miata and a Capri. The Capri had front-wheel-drive, but could be had with factory turbocharging. These cars were reliable and fun, but had a tough time competing with the Miata in the showroom battles. You'll see the occasional example now and then, but most of the 1991-1994 Capris have met the same fate that awaits this one. Related Video:
Project Ugly Horse: Part V
Mon, 11 Feb 2013The Slippery Slope
I've had a healthy appreciation for cars that stop since one truly unfortunate incident with a runaway 1971 Lincoln Continental.
It's funny how quickly a party can turn from, "We're all having blast" to "What happened to the front of the house, and how many stitches do you think this is going to take?" Standing in a Mustang salvage shop in Kodak, Tennessee, I couldn't help but feel I had strayed into the latter territory with Ugly Horse. There was a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 plucked from a rear-ended Cobra sitting off to my left. The shelves were lined with second-hand Roush and SVT components galore, but I couldn't stop staring at a set of rotors with the approximate diameter of my chest.
