This is a 1978 Ford Fiesta MkI, made in Germany and imported into the USA for three model years, 1978-1980. It is in great driving condition. It looks great and is ready to be driven home. This was originally a Southern California car and is rust free, except for a small amount of surface rust around the right rear window. The yellow paint is bright and shiny with only a few very minor blemishes. Underneath the car looks great and there are no signs of accident damage or repair. The interior is in great condition. The seat upholstery pictured is not original, however, these are merely professionally installed seat covers - done by the original owner many years ago. The original black/white houndstooth upholstery is underneath. I cannot attest to the condition of the upholstery - except to confirm that the original seat upholstery exists beneath the aftermarket covers. The door panels, headliner and dash are all original and in very nice condition. The car has a radio and is wired for speakers, but there are none installed. The speaker wiring is there and already run into the back of the car (seen in the pictures of the rear cargo area). The heater works well and the two speed fan works as expected; it is missing a knob on one of the controls, but a replacement one will be included with the car. The wheels and tires are in very good condition, with approximately 3000 miles on them. Mechanically, the engine was rebuilt 30,000 miles ago. The car itself has just over 128,000 miles. It starts right up and drives very well and has good power and fuel economy. The brakes were recently redone, new all around - calipers, rotors, drums and pads - new master brake cylinder. Also done were fresh wheel bearings and front end alignment. The car tracks well and stops straight and true. The front struts are KYB GR2 and nearly new. You will be hard pressed to find another Fiesta in this great condition. I had been looking for a long time when this one came along and have not seen one since. I had originally planned to turn this one into a street racer, but it is way too nice to start tearing it apart, so I am passing it along to the next person to look after. Ford hybrids getting update to improve fuel economy
Tue, 16 Jul 2013Ford has announced that it is introducing "calibration updates designed to improve on-road fuel economy for owners of the 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid, 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid and 2013 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid."
We can speculate that these changes are at least due in part to lawsuits over mileage claims of hybrid vehicles. The automaker is enhancing 2013 models starting in August by raising their electric cruising speed to 85 miles per hour from 62 mph, optimizing the use of active grille shutters and the climate control system, shortening the engine warm-up period by 50 percent and reducing electric fan speed to minimize the fan's energy consumption.
It bears mentioning that Ford is doing pretty well in the US electrified vehicle market this year. The company claims to have grown its share in the segment by 12 points to 16 percent while taking a high number of Toyota Prius trade-ins in the process. Conversely, Toyota has experienced a five-percent drop in new-Prius sales over the same period. Additionally, Ford states that it has increased its share of the US vehicle market by one percent this year, more than any full-line automaker.
RTR Spec 5 Concept shows off 2015 Ford Mustang's drifty potential
Wed, 05 Nov 2014Meet the Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5 Concept, a fully functional drift car that, according to our team in Sin City, has been doling out demo drifts in front of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Destined to be the flagship of RTR's Tactical Performance Line, the Spec 5 Concept is, in addition to its 5.0-liter Aluminator V8 engine, chock full of performance parts that you can buy for your very own 2015 Mustang. In addition to the Ford Racing engine, the OEM parts supplier has lent the Spec 5 an aluminum radiator and a close-ratio six-speed transmission.
ASD Motorsports provided the front lower control arms, while the car itself rides on a fully customized coilover suspension. Magnaflow and American Racing have provided the exhaust system and headers, respectively. 20-inch HRE wheels, designed for RTR, are wrapped in sticky Nitto rubber.
Unrestored 1969 Shelby GT500 one of many classic barn finds going to auction
Wed, 19 Mar 2014We love a good barn find here at Autoblog. We like that there's a palpable excitement and sense of mystery surrounding barn finds. Each case has its own uniqueness to it, and this latest discovery is no different: an unrestored, one-owner 1969 Shelby GT500 with just 8,531 miles on it.
In the case of this particular barn find, many of the typical questions have already been answered. For example, we know who owned it - his name was Larry Brown. He recently passed away, and as he had no wife or children to inherit the estate, the car he purchased at Pennsylvania Ford dealer in May of 1969, will be auctioned off by Ron Gilligan Auctioneers.
The car was fastidiously maintained, having never been driven in the rain. In fact, Brown never even washed it, out of fear of it rusting. According to the auction website, the last time this car saw water was probably when it was detailed ahead of being delivered to Brown. If that doesn't sound like a fanatical sense of maintenance on the part of this GT500's owner, this next part will. The interior has been treated to a similarly painstaking attempt at preservation, with garbage bags covering the seats and two layers of floor mats over the carpets. The result is a car that, aesthetically, is in remarkable shape considering it's spent so long in a barn.
