Please read the entire description if you are considering bidding on this car. I am listing this car for a friend. It has been owned by him or one of his family members for over thirty years. In the mid 1980's it was his daily driver. During that time a low mileage 1985 or 86 Mustang GT engine was installed along with a C4 automatic transmission. In the late 80's early 90's the car came off the road and went to another family member as a father son project. A Ford eight inch five lug rear and five lug front spindles donated from a 70's Maverick or Granada were installed. Eventually it was returned to the current and former owner who I am listing it for. It has been registered in New York in his name the whole time. It comes with a clear transferable N.Y. registration. Cars this old are not titled in New York. It is a nice body style with the hardtop no post roof. It would make a good father son project. It would not take much to get it on the road and use it while you work on it. Most of what it needs is labor. Also if you keep it in this condition or improve it I think it will continue to hold it's value as they are getting harder to find. Although it needs some work it is solid where it needs to be solid. The torque boxes, rocker panels, radiator support, battery box area, rear rails and trunk floor all look good. The dash is original and has not been cut for a aftermarket stereo. The body looks solid around the front and rear windows. I tried to add as many pictures of these areas as I could. It is solid along the drip rails but I did find two small spots where the paint had chipped off and the body rusted. I will get a better picture of that and add it during the auction. I have plenty of pictures and can take more if needed for specific areas or questions. The engine fires up and sounds very good on a separate gas container. The gas tank needs to be flushed or replaced. I think the tank is the same as early Mustang but am not 100 percent sure. The brakes are not working the pedal goes to the floor. It has had some previous work floors. The worst part of the car is the area under the rear seat where some patch work is needed. The car is structurally sound and could be driven as is once the mechanical issues are resolved. Some time spent with some sheet metal and a MIG machine would make a huge improvement in this car and it's value. It has bucket seats from another car that are in fair but very usable condition. The back seat is not currently in the pictures but it is there in good condition along with front kick panels and door sill plates. The steel channel on the front was bolted to the bumper bracket holes to move the car around without damaging it. I make every effort to describe and picture my items accurately, if you have questions please ask. The car is for sale locally in eastern Long Island N.Y. and the auction may end at any time. The car can be viewed by appointment. The car must be paid for in full and picked up no later than end of day Sunday July 7th unless other arrangements are mutually agreed to prior to auction ending.

Ford blamed in drug mule lawsuit
Tue, 30 Jul 2013If a college student is caught smuggling drugs across the border, one might think the kid got what was coming to him. But when a Mexican student at the University of Texas in El Paso was caught by Border Patrol agents with duffel bags filled with marijuana in his trunk, the man used a classic excuse: He claimed they weren't his.
While a claim like that is almost unbelievable, Ricardo Magallanes, the student, is now suing Ford for handling its vehicles' key codes negligently enough to allow drug smugglers to break into his Ford Focus and stash the drugs, The Daily Caller reports. The twist here is that four other people who lived in Juarez and worked in El Paso were involved in the same type of scheme - allegedly unwittingly, just like Magallanes - and all the cars were Fords except one model from General Motors. FBI agents also found an employee at a Dallas Ford dealership that had accessed the key codes to all four of the cannabis-stuffed Fords.
While we all may not own Fords, the case still causes us slight paranoia. We'll definitely be checking our trunks before we cross any more international borders.
VW going turbo-only in 3 to 4 years
Wed, 18 Sep 2013This really was a matter of when, rather than if. Volkswagen will apparently be the first manufacturer to phase out naturally aspirated engines in favor of turbocharging its full slate. VW is kind of responsible for ushering in this push towards small-displacement, turbocharged engines that's taken the industry by storm. When it dropped its direct-injection, 2.0-liter turbo in the 2005 GTI it demonstrated that strapping an iron long to an engine can enhance the powertrain as a whole. VW made fuel economy gains, while also giving a linear, non-laggy turbo experience that it has replicated, model-after-model, to this day.
Speaking with The Detroit News, Volkswagen's executive Vice President of Group Quality, Marc Trahan, told the paper that, "We only have one normally aspirated gas engine, and when we go to the next generation vehicle that it's in, it will be replaced. So three, four years maximum."
Really, it's hard to get teary-eyed about either of these engines going away. VW has access to smaller powerplants that could easily match the performance of the 2.5 five-cylinder and the 3.6 V6, while gobbling up less fuel and providing a better driving experience. What we are sad about is that a similar statement about the extinction of NA engines came from the Vice President of Powertrain Engineering at Ford, Joe Bakaj. We'd certainly get teary-eyed over a world without Ford's excellent 5.0-liter V8.
Sunday Drive: Still thankful for supercars
Sun, Nov 26 2017The Thanksgiving holiday meant that last week was pretty short on stories, but apparently our readers are still thankful for supercars. The biggest news of the week was the new Aston Martin Vantage, which is clothed in a new look that Autoblog readers are still very much unsure of. It's a radical departure from past Aston Martin models, and while everyone seems to agree that the profile is lovely, the squinty headlamps are a particular source of contention. Its 503 horsepower and 512 pound-feet of torque cannot be argued with ... oh, and a V12 may be coming soon. Moving along is a nearly new 2006 Ford GT for sale that's expected to fetch around $300,000 at auction. It's so unused that it still has plastic wrap covering the leather interior. The Ango-American theme continues with the McLaren 720S, though not in road-going form. Still, renderings of the upcoming 720S GT3 racer round out this supercar-rich recap. As always, stay tuned to Autoblog for all the latest automotive news that's fit to print.
