 Introduction

Listed for sale is a 1962 Ford Falcon that is an original straight 6 cylinder car that has been converted to a 302 configuration.  It has a clear title and original ID tag.  The car has undergone a complete transformation throughout the past 10 or so years.  The car was completely stripped of all major components, and has had close to all parts replaced.  The car has been completely gone through.  The majority of the parts were purchased as brand new parts from major vendor such as Summit Racing, Dearborn Classics, Chris Alstons chassis works, etc… The only parts that were not purchased new were some of the V8 front brake parts such as spindles, but were thoroughly cleaned, prepped, and painted.  We have a gigantic folder with all of the receipts for every part or service purchased for the car that will be included with the sale.  There is way too much to list.  The list adds up to many thousands and thousands of dollars of solid quality parts.   The car and all of its parts literally have no more than 1 MILE on them.  The car has been garage kept the entire time.  Below are the general upgrades that have been performed on the car, but are nowhere near everything that has been purchased for the car.  A complete list of parts and services purchased for the car can verified per the receipts folder we have.  The majority of the car’s renovation was completed in 2009 with exception to a few areas that have yet to be addressed.  I would consider this 95% restored.  The car is very very nice, but it is not perfect.  There are a few areas that still need to be addressed.  Further detail on items yet to be addressed are detailed below.

Drivetrain

Engine - The shortblock was built by John’s machine shop of Slidell. It is an early 1980’s 302 block bored to 4.060” with a stock crankshaft, stock connecting rods, and aftermarket pistons.  The engine is 311 c.i.  The top end consists of E7TE Cylinder heads with crane roller rockers, a Weind complete intake package with intake with Holley 670 Holley Carburetor, Lunati cam, lifters, and timing set.  All fuel lines from front to back are new.  The car has a holley air cleaner, a Mallory distributor, ford motorsport oil pan, new timing cover, ARP bolts throughout engine, very nice pulley set, Dearborn motor mount V-8 Conversion, Falcon enterprises fuel tank, Autocrafters Alternator, Starter, fuel pump, alternator brackets, MSD coil, Taylor 8mm sparkplug wires, heddman headers with custom flowmaster exhaust that cuts out by the rear end.  The exhaust has some serious rumble to it.  If you prefer something quieter, I would recommend running a full exhaust to the rear bumper.

Transmission - The Transmission is a TCI street fighter transmission with a HD pump, 3800 TCI stall converter and new Bell housing.  It has a Hurst shifter, Melvin’s transmission mounts, radiator, custom bent transmission cooler lines with pressure fittings, and a Custom driveshaft.

Chassis / Suspension

Rear end – The car has a Chris Alston’s Chassis works complete adjustable ladder bar suspension package complete with coil overs, 8.8 rear end out of late model mustang, Moser 5 lug 28 spline axles.  The gearing is a 3.73:1 ratio.

Brakes – The car has Manual Front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. The car has all new brake lines, a new Master Cylinder, Line lock, and proportioning valve.

It has Melvin’s complete front suspension package for V8 Falcon’s with new upper and lower control arms, tie rod ends, all new bushings, drag link, pitman arms, shocks, coil springs, etc…

Interior

The car has a dearborn headliner, new whether stripping throughout, moldings, door locks, arm rests, carpet, door panels, window seals, floor mats, Melvin’s horns speakers, turn signals. The seats were redone by local auto interior shop named Custom Canvas and are very nice.  There was a mishap when doing some of the interior work and something put some light stains on the front bench seat.  It was very frustrating but it still looks nice.

Exterior

The car has never been in an accident.  This is evident by all frame rails, panels, etc… Nothing looks bent and everything is very straight.  The car has been painted its original color.  The bumpers were re-chromed by a vendor named the Chrome shop.  The rims are new Weld racing draglite rims.  The front are 15x5, Rear are 15x8 with BF Goodrich Tires.

Yet to be addressed:

The car was converted from a Generator to an Alternator set up.  There is a wiring issue that does not allow the battery to charge properly, so until this is addressed, we would not advise driving the car to far.  We would advise that the car be trailered to its destination until this is resolved.

A few body decals and details have not been installed.  They are of course included with the sale.

2 window moldings need to be replaced.

The Front and rear lights work including brake lights, but the blinkers do not.

The windshield wipers do not work.

There is a spot here and there that needs to be touched up as far as paint goes.  It is not a $10k paint job but it looks very nice.

The car only has 1 headlight aluminum cover, the other is missing.

Conclusion

As you can see there has been a lot of blood, sweat, and tears put into the car.  The reason for selling it is because my brother (the owner) simply does not have the means to further the car to a 100% full restoration and enjoy it and needs the money for other life goals.

The car will need to be picked up at the private residence it resides at.  It does not have insurance and due to the wiring issue that does not fully allow the battery to charge, meeting somewhere will not work.  It will run and drive for a while, but eventually, the battery will need to be charged until the issue is resolved.  I’ve looked into what the wiring issue looks to be a simple fix but am unsure.  Upon pick-up, the car can be test driven in the neighborhood.   The car is very light.  Couple that with a 311 c.i. engine, performance trans, gearing and suspension and yes, it accelerates very quicky!  If you require certain pictures of a certain area, please contact me and I can get those to you.  This a very nice car, and its owner will be not be disappointed.  The car is sold as is.  Thanks for looking!

Check out Ford's fully automated self-parking car [w/video]

Wed, 09 Oct 2013

As automakers continue to find uses for autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicle technology, Ford of Europe has announced that it is developing a self-parking system for future use. More advanced than the Active Park Assist already offered in many Ford products, the new Fully Assisted Parking Aid can take full control of the vehicle and can navigate angled and perpendicular parking spots.
While today's Active Park Assist can only parallel park with the driver controlling the gas, brake and gear selection, Fully Assisted Parking Aid can operate steering, gas, brake and gear selection all while making sure the car is properly parked in the intended space. As with APA, the driver pushes a button to make the car look for a proper spot (at speeds of up to 18 miles per hour), and when an adequate space is located, the operator pushes another button (either inside the car or outside via remote control) for the car to park itself - the button must be pressed throughout the whole parking maneuver. Even though Ford says that the car can effect gear selections on its own, the system must still start from Neutral, and the automaker isn't saying whether the car can put itself into Park when done or put itself in Drive when the operator is ready to go.
Ford is also taking the opportunity to announce its new Obstacle Avoidance technology. This automated system is able to detect objects - including pedestrians - in the road, warn drivers of said objects and, if needed, stop and steer automatically to avoid hitting the obstacle. Both systems are still in the prototype phase, so there is no word as to when we could see either on a production vehicle.

Lexus tops JD Power Vehicle Dependability Study again, Buick bests Toyota

Wed, Feb 25 2015

It shouldn't surprise anyone, but Lexus has once again taken the top spot in JD Power's Vehicle Dependability Study. That'd be the Japanese luxury brand's fourth straight year at the top of table. The big news, though, is the rise of Buick. General Motor's near-premium brand beat out Toyota to take second place, with 110 problems per 100 vehicles compared to Toyota's 111 problems. Lexus owners only reported 89 problems per 100 vehicles. Besides Buick's three-position jump, Scion enjoyed a major improvement, jumping 13 positions from 2014. Ram and Mitsubishi made big gains, as well, moving up 11 and 10 positions, respectively. In terms of individual segments, GM and Toyota both excelled, taking home seven segment awards each. The study wasn't good news for all involved, though. A number of popular automakers finished below the industry average of 147 problems per 100 vehicles, including Subaru, (157PP100), Volkswagen (165PP100), Ford/Hyundai (188PP100 each) and Mini (193PP100). The biggest losers (by a tremendous margin, we might add) were Land Rover and Fiat, recording 258 and 273 problems per 100 vehicles. The next closest brand was Jeep, with 197PP100. While the Vehicle Dependability Study uses the same measurement system as the Initial Quality Survey, the two metrics analyze very different things. The VDS looks at problems experienced by original owners of model year 2012 vehicles over the past 12 months, while the oft-quoted IQS focuses on problems in the first 90 days of new-vehicle ownership. Like the IQS, though, the VDS has a rather broad definition of what a problem is. Because of that, a low score from JD Power is no guarantee of extreme unreliability, so much as just poor design. In this most recent study, the two most reported problems focused on Bluetooth connectivity and the voice-command systems. The former leaves plenty of room for user error due to poor design (particularly true of the Bluetooth systems on the low-scoring Fords, Volkswagens and Subarus), while the second is something JD Power has already confirmed as being universally terrible. That makes means that while these studies are important, they shouldn't be taken as gospel when it comes to automotive reliability.
