This is a 1982 Fairmont Futura Coupe. It's a true survivor. I think I may be the third owner. The original owner drove it back and forth to work, about 30 mi. a day. The speedo says 82xxx mi. which I think are probably original. I acquired it through a trade, but have too many cars and so it needs to go to a new owner.  It has the 2.3 four cylinder with a 4-speed manual trans.  It runs fine and I wouldn't be afraid to drive it anywhere. The engine doesn't smoke or have any noises, the trans shifts just fine.  The previous owner told me that he replaced the differential with an 8.8, instead of the stock one.  He was planning to drop in a 302. I drove it for a while with no problems.  The gauges all work, the interior is pretty nice with just one split on the side of the drivers seat. The vinyl for the headliner is gone. I suppose the glue dried up. The cardboard is intact and in good shape. There is one split on the dash pad, drivers side, but not bad. I put on the mag wheels.  The tires are o.k.  It has air shocks.

The body is very solid on this one with no rust through.  The spots you see are only surface rust.  There is no rust through underneath.  It would be a great candidate for a hot rod or just do a quick paint job and drive it the way it is.

I'm starting it at a low price and selling it at NO RESERVE!. We all know how we hate reserve auctions. At least I do.  I will accept cash, a good Cashiers Check or Postal Money Order. Please, no dreamers or tire kickers.  I'm only interested in serious buyers, so make sure that you clear it with momma and have the money available before you bid. Ask any questions long before the end of the auction.  The car is being sold "as is."  There are no guaranties and no returns of any kind.  I expect to hear from the winning bidder within 24 hr. of the auctions end and full payment is due within 5 days. The car can stay here for 30 days if it is paid for.

A note to scammers.  I just successfully won a case against a scammer who is now sitting in jail.  So, don't even think about it.  I'm an honest person and I expect you to be the same.  Good luck bidding!

Attention:  If you are a first time bidder, please contact me first or I will cancel your bid.

NHTSA investigating Ford's solution to May 2014 power steering recall

Tue, Apr 7 2015

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating a complaint that Ford's response to a May 2014 recall of the 2008 to 2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner doesn't quite go far enough to solve a troubling power-steering problem. Roughly a year ago, Ford recalled nearly a million vehicles after it was found that a problem with the torque sensor's communication with the power steering control module could cut steering assistance for drivers. While manual steering would still be available, the problem was enough to ask drivers to report in to have the PSCM inspected, and if necessary, replaced (along with the torque sensor, or in dramatic cases, the entire steering column). That would only happen, though, if trouble codes were being thrown. If there weren't any problems, dealers were told to simply update the PSCM's software so that any issues between it and the torque sensor would simply throw a visual and audio warning – power steering would still be maintained. The petitioner claimed that following the recall work, he still experienced a problem with the torque sensor. According to NHTSA, a claim was made that Ford didn't go far enough in its solution to the problem, and that "the software update itself may in fact cause further issues with the affected vehicle's power steering, causing it to fail, and ultimately requiring replacement of the torque sensor or entire steering column." The petition was filed in early February and is now officially being looked into by NHTSA.

Toyota fears supplier pressure in Australia with GM pull out

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

With Ford and General Motors both announcing an end to production in Australia, the country's auto industry is in a bad way. With the exit of two big players, there's increased concern that a third Australian manufacturer, Toyota, will be forced out, as well.
"We are saddened to learn of GM Holden's decision. This will place unprecedented pressure on the local supplier network and our ability to build cars in Australia," Toyota Australia said in a statement. The GM closure of Holden production will be the direct end to 2,900 jobs, but will also force a dramatic reduction in the size of the country's supplier network, as there will simply be fewer cars to build.
In the same statement, Toyota Australia said it would work with suppliers and local government to figure out whether continuing production Down Under was even feasible. According to Automotive News, a representative for the Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union told reporters it was "highly likely" that Toyota would also close up shop within the next few years.
