1974 RANGER XLT. 64,591 ORIGINAL MILES. SOME RUST ON THE WHEEL WELLS ON THE BOX. VEHICLE WAS WRECKED ON A SNOWY DAY LAST WINTER. IT DAMAGED THE HOOD AND THE GRILLE INSERTS, IT DID NOT DAMAGE THE BUMPER, RADIATOR, OR ANY OTHER PART. THE HOOD IS A USED ORIGINAL WITH A DENT ON THE RIGHT FRONT, WHICH WOULD BE AN EASY REPAIR. THE DOORS ARE SPRUNG DUE TO THE WIND. THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR AND FRONT FENDER WILL REQUIRE SOME BODY WORK AS THE PHOTO SHOWS. THE ENGINE IS A 360, WHICH IS BELIEVED TO BE THE ORIGINAL, BUT WILL FIND OUT FOR SURE, AS I WORK WITH THE GUY I BOUGHT IT FROM. TIRES HAVE ABOUT 1500 MILES ON THEM. THE INTERIOR IS CLOSE TO PERFECT, THE DASH IS CRACKED. THIS RUNS AND DRIVES LIKE NEW. IT HAS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION I HAD GREAT PLANS FOR RESTORING THIS TO PERFECT, BUT TOO MANY OTHER PROJECTS GOT IN THE WAY. THIS WAS AND STILL IS A DAILY DRIVER. I DRIVE IT ABOUT 2 MILES TO WORK EVERY DAY. AGAIN IT DRIVES AND RUNS PERFECTLY. THIS WOULD A WAY EASY RESTORATION BACK TO PERFECT. MY SON WANTED TO MAKE IT INTO A CONVERTIBLE RAT ROD, BUT I WILL NOT TAKE THIS CONDITION OF VEHICLE AND BUTCHER IT. IT IS A FAIRLY RARE RANGER XLT PACKAGE AND A CAMPER SPECIAL, IT HAS THE STORAGE BOX ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, WHICH IS ONLY ON THE CAMPER SPECIAL. PLEASE LOOK AT THE PHOTOS AND THEN FEEL FREE TO ASK ANY QUESTION. I WILL ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS, EXCEPT ANYONE WHO QUESTIONS THE ORIGINAL MILEAGE. THIS WAS PURCHASED NEW BY MY FRIENDS FATHER, AND SPENT MANY YEARS IN HIS GARAGE. IT WAS STARTED FREQUENTLY AND DRIVEN ABOUT EVERY MONTH TO KEEP EVERYTHING IN WORKING ORDER. THANKS FOR LOOKING AND FEEL FREE TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS. TRUCK IS LOCATED IN CODY, WYOMING. THIS TRUCK CAN BE INSPECTED AND DRIVEN ANY TIME. I CAN BE CONTACTED AT 307-899-0776. Swedish car mag says Ford Mondeo is dangerously, illegally overweight [w/video]
Thu, Dec 18 2014Sweden's Teknikens Varld has a reputation for being very persnickety when it comes to auto safety testing, and its latest catch is the Mondeo Titanium Estate 2.0 TDCi 150 bhp S6 MPS (basically a station wagon variant of the Fusion). In addition to the model's mile-long name, it has another problem according to the Swedes, because its weight on the scales does not equal the official numbers for the vehicle. Teknikens Varld claims the wagon is dangerously overweight because it weighs in 4,145 pounds, while Ford officially lists its weight at 3,530 pounds. That 615-pound disparity means that if a family loads it to what they think is the model's gross vehicle weight, it will actually be too heavy, and therefore illegal to drive in Sweden. According to the magazine, when it tried doing this, the rear wheels scraped against the wells, and the estate failed the mag's legendary moose test. However, at 220 pounds over the limit, it passed the test. When reached for comment by Autoblog, Jay Ward, Senior Manager at Ford of Europe Product Communications, explained the reason for the deviation between the official numbers and the magazine's test: "We are aware of this, but this is not an issue that relates specifically to the safety of the Mondeo, but is in fact related to the way in which the cars are tested by the authorities. We provided an Ambiente model for the testing but the car that featured in the magazine test was a Titanium model which has a different weight. We are in discussion with the Swedish Transport Agency to change the framework so the real weight of the Titanium model is reported instead of the Ambiente model which will resolve the issue." Teknikens Varld is well-known for calling out automakers for perceived transgressions. Most recently it leveled criticisms against the all-wheel drive system in the Honda CR-V, and both the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Porsche Macan failed its moose test. Scroll down for the magazine's video of weighing the Mondeo Estate and the model's test results. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. The new Ford Mondeo is dangerously overweight The new Ford Mondeo is a great car, which Teknikens Varld's test shows, but there is one problem – the weight. Mondeo weighs 279 kg more than Ford claims. With big load (ie family plus luggage) the car therefore becomes illegal to drive.
White House clears way for NHTSA to mandate vehicle black boxes
Fri, 07 Dec 2012At present, over 90 percent of all new vehicles sold in the United States today are equipped with event data recorders, more commonly known as black boxes. If the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gets its way, that already high figure will swell to a full 100 percent in short order.
Such automotive black boxes have been in existence since the 1990s, and all current Ford, General Motors, Mazda and Toyota vehicles are so equipped. NHTSA has been attempting to make these data recorders mandatory for automakers, and according to The Detroit News, the White House Office of Management Budget has just finished reviewing the proposal, clearing the way. Now NHTSA is expected to draft new legislation to make the boxes a requirement.
One problem with current black boxes is that there's no set of standards for automakers to follow when creating what bits of data are recorded, and for how long or in what format it is stored. In other words, one automaker's box is probably not compatible with its competitors.
2018 Ford Expedition vs other big SUVs: How it compares on paper
Fri, Nov 10 2017With our Alex Kierstein rightly impressed in his first-drive review of the new 2018 Ford Expedition, we decided to dig a little deeper into the numbers, and we came up with the spreadsheet below to highlight how the new 2018 Expedition compares on paper to its main full-size SUV competitors: the 2018 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban (and therefore the 2018 GMC Yukon), 2018 Toyota Sequoia and 2018 Nissan Armada. We also threw in the new, even bigger 2018 Chevrolet Traverse since, as you'll see, its massive dimensions should put it on the radar for anyone who needs loads of passenger and cargo space but doesn't care as much about towing. A few notes about the chart above. First, the 6.2-liter V8 that's included with the new-for-2018 Tahoe RST trim level is the standard engine on the GMC Yukon Denali. You can apply most of the Tahoe's numbers to the entire Yukon and Yukon XL lineup. Second, though we highlighted categories where the Traverse led, we also highlighted the runner-up full-size SUV, since this was ultimately about that segment. Traverse numbers are broadly applicable to the new Buick Enclave.
