1978 F100 XLT

Thanks for having a look at my 1978 Ford F100 Ranger XLT that has been totally restored. This truck is in amazing shape and has a 5.0 Mustang GT fuel injected V-8 with Automatic and A/C. This truck runs and drives great and doesn't use oil at all. The interior is in better than new condition and has some nice custom touches to it. All the glass is excellent and has a nice tint job and the air blows cold. The am fm radio plays your favorite 70's songs and it gets attension everwhere you go. There is no rust or rot anywhere and the truck has that smell in it like it did when it was new. I am only listing this one time and if it does not sell I am going to keep it. My kids love this truck and will be heartbroken if I sell it. The underneath looks excellent and has been completely gone through. The steering is a little loose and eventually a new box would make it perfect. It steers just fine now but could be better. The body is almost all steel and has very very little filler in it. The truck was done right and is not far from perfection. It doesn't smell like hydrocarbons going down the road and the motor sounds awesome going through the dual exhaust. The rims and tires are perfect and it has all the original moldings that came with it for the bodyside. The moldings had to be straightened in a few spots and I have taken photos as well. This is a truck you can drive and not freak out everytime you park it although I do. Even though it has a bedliner the truck has a solid rust free bed. It has chrome bed rail covers. This truck is all there and will really impress anyone who likes trucks. This is not a rust buggy, it is all solid and I have a folder filled with all reciepts of work performed. The speedo shows 41k miles but I'm not sure if its accurate. I have all the invoices for all the parts replaced and purchased for it. All the jambs and cab mounts are excellent and everything works although the horn was repositioned below the headlight switch. The paint is really good and has a couple spots where it has minor blemishes but overall excellent. The carpet is new and it has a 1 piece mat. This dam thing is just so fun to drive I really do hope nobody likes it as much as I do. The flush mount bumper was a nice addition and looks real nice. I have taken a pile of pictures for you to view inside the templet. They speak volumes so I will let them do their job. This is a special truck and is going to make someone happy and bring back memories.

Rare Ford Mustang ASC McLaren is a piece of '80s history

Wed, Jun 1 2016

You can't blame the dealer for advertising this oddball convertible as a "Ford Mustang McLaren." The name certainly rolls off the tongue better than "Ford Mustang ASC McLaren," and it makes the car sound a whole lot more appealing. However, without the 'ASC' in there, you don't get the full picture. And when it comes to the world of strange automotive collaborations—particularly those of the 80s—you most definitely want the full picture. ASC McLaren Mustangs were the result of fortuitous timing, and a project that was already underway between the American Sunroof Company and McLaren (no, not that McLaren). Detroit custom car builder Peter Muscat brought the idea of a Mustang with a tonneau cover to ASC after chopping the top off a Fox body on his own, and in turn ASC founder Heinz Pretcher brought the concept to Ford. Big blue was already in the midst of relaunching a Mustang convertible, which had been absent from the lineup for 10 years, so initially it was the Mercury Capri that got the ASC/McLaren treatment. The result was a car that was more expensive than a Mustang GT, and coupled with declining sales of the Capri overall, the car was discontinued in 1986, paving the way for the ASC McLaren Mustang you see here on eBay. With the change over to the Mustang as their platform for modification in 1987, ASC McLaren were given the opportunity to create something notable. Customizing the Capri was one thing, but the Mustang name carries with it iconic status. So what did ASC McLaren do with their chance to leave their mark on automotive history? They gave the car some visual modifications, both inside and out, but like the Capri, left the powertrain untouched. Also like the Capri, the cars still ended up costing more than $20,000. Between the high price, the economic woes of the late 80s, and disputes between Muscat and Pretcher, the ASC McLaren Mustangs were no more by 1990. During the three year run, 1,806 ASC McLaren conversions were completed, making them quite rare, especially low mileage examples like this one. The 5.0 V8s are known for being stout engines, capable of handling serious modification, and logging lots of miles, so there are no concerns there. The 5-speed Borg-Warner transmission that came in all Mustang GTs is also known for being a durable unit, the '87-'90 versions especially so. The main concern here would be the life the car has lived, and more importantly where it has lived.

Ford dealer gives James Robertson new 2015 Taurus

Fri, Feb 6 2015

James Robertson, the 56-year-old Detroit native famous for walking 21 miles to work each day for the last 10 years, is behind the wheel again thanks to a gift from a Ford dealer. Robertson became an Internet sensation when the story about his daily ordeal came to light, and a GoFundMe campaign initially hoped to raise $5,000 to buy him a new ride. As of this writing, it has reached over $300,000. He didn't have to dip into any of that money to buy the new car, though. According to The Detroit Free Press, Suburban Ford of Sterling Heights, MI, heard about Robertson's story of never being late to work and having perfect attendance. The dealer is donating a fully loaded, red 2015 Taurus to him. It's not one of our choices, but certainly nothing to sneeze at. Robertson started walking to work in 2005 when his Honda broke down. According to the GoFundMe page, his job is about 23 miles away, but thanks to Detroit's poor bus network, he covers about 21 miles of that round-trip trek on foot each day.
