1997 Ford Explorer Eddie Baer Awd Turbocharged 351w Project on 2040-cars
Topeka, Kansas, United States
You are bidding on a project I started with good intentions three years ago. Started as a 4.0 soch 4wd explorer. Instead of sticking a low mile 5.0 and trans/tranfer case I decided it needed a turbocharged 351 windsor. Has rebuilt 5.8 roller motor from 95 e350 van.Motor uses explorer 5.0 wiring harness along with modified cam sensor crank sensor and coil packs. Motor has been rebuilt and balanced with hypeurtectic pistons, moly top rings, arp wavloc rod bolts with rod beams polished, arp main cap bolts, ford motorsport e303 cam 1.72 ration intake scorpion roller rockers and stock 1.6 exhaust rockers, mildly ported e7 heads with polished and undercut stainless 1.85 intake and 1.54 valves with thermactor bumps removed and exhaust ports polished with matching springs for the e303 cam and arp head studs . Has gasket matched 5.8 efi lower intake with heavily modified upper. The
intake plenum was split on throttlebody side, plenum divider removed side tigged on and the twin inlet truck throttlebody flange removed and a cnc flange was made and tigged on for an explorer 5.0 single blade throttle body that has shaft milled and streamlined with counter sunk screws. Has external oil cooler with thermal bypass switch all -10an fittings/remote oil filter. Also have 2.5" y pipe home fabbed with v band flanges included and t4 flange on for the passenger mount turbocharger. has Mac shortie 1 5/8" headers flipped around. I have most of the turbo cold side done and tigged together along with custom radiator hoses of aluminum tube tigged and done with silicone hose ends and clamps. Has custom shroud with single electric fan not wired up but relay and thermal switch included. It has an braided hose almost everywhere with red and blue fittings.Transmission is rebuilt 4r70w with shift improver, hd shift servo, cryo treated intermediate sprag ,new 2500 stall converter and late model intermediate sprag upgrade. Also rebuilt awd matching transfer case. Has factory rear limited slip with 3.55 axle ratio. One in tank generic 255lph fuel pump and inline walbro 255 pump they have separate pick ups then y into single -8an to mallory boost reference regulator at fuel rail. Also was setting up for e85 so it has new 80 pound injectors installed as well(planned on about 14-15 psi boost). Also has msd fuel pump booster wired to the walbro 255 but needs usb cable to down load free software on the msd site. Also included is a new tweecer r/t programmer and DataQ analog to digital converter for an included innovate wideband controller and a gm style map sensor. I also have a cobra MAF sensor with it. Have a new ebay 102mm compressor/75mm turbine .84 a/r comp and .96 a/r turbine t4 water cooled turbocharger with heat blanket, 60mm v band waste gate, hks bov, and an electronic hks boost controller that I bought from a friend used but has all accessories and looks new. Installed some of the gauges by deleting the center ac vents. Had a nice stereo system but all that is still in is wiring and lanzat 6.5 mid and separate tweeter speakers with crossovers in doors. No head unit amps or crossovers.I will leave amp rack and the box with pyle square 10" sub that takes up right rear quarter panel. Stereo pic was before amps were removed. I never finished the trim to cover the amp/wiring was going to use 1/8" masonite covered with vinyl so that would be up to you. This truck does not have heat or a/c since it was to be a toy/ bracket racer. Also has front upper a arm mounts raised to help ball joint angle with the approx 3" suspension drop in front along with axle raised 3/4" to help cv angles too. Rear frame is notched for the approx 3" rear drop. All poly bushing and poly trans mount. Has engine torque limiter with rod ends and poly bushing at frame rail. Also oil cooler with remote filter and thermal bypass all with -10 an braided hose. Tires are cooper z rated all season tires size 275-40-18 with around 5,000 miles mounted on shelby gt500 18x9.5 rims. One side of trim/moulding of truck has been painted satin black and havent got other side done yet. Trying for a gt500 version of an explorer, was going to call it a gt700 kr and had vinyl striped for sides made and it has svt badge on rear gate above the on/off battery cuttoff switch in bumper that has been wired up. I have the hood with mach1 style fiberglass bolt on scoop. Bumper is included but not on because intercooler not on yet. This isnt a pro build by any stretch but will none the less be awesome for someone who is willing to purchase an intercooler(brackets are on, had intercooler but sold it),finish making ecu mount from ammo box that I started, brackets are done , finish exhaust past down pipe and finish plumbing and install upper intake and misl wiring. I could have the thing running in a couple months worth of tinkering on weekends and about 300-400 worth of parts, needs front driveshaft shortened because sohc 4.0 front shaft is longer than 5.0 awd shaft. Has 5.0 rear driveshaft that goes with it, also will need baseline tune from Tweecer($75) if you are not an experienced tuner . If you have some mechanical knowledge and very basic fab skills this would be a pretty easy finish. Unfortunately I am faced with a divorce and I have to get rid of it so my reserve is about 1/6 of what I have in this thing. Guess if you don't like explorers you could use it for parts and build a cool mustang and save thousands on parts. I'm sure this isn't all but their is too much to remember. I will try to answer any questions to the best of my knowledge . It will have clear title but I will need to make a payment to the bank with money from sale in order for them to release the title but this wont be a problem, my bank is very easy to work with. You will need to bring a trailer or arrange your own shipping. Thanks for looking. You heard about all the extra parts, I guess I should give some details of the truck itself. The seats and carpet are in above average condition with no tears in leather just some shiny spots on drivers seat from getting in and out as well as plastic trim for the switches on drivers seat keeps pulling off from plastic tab on back being broke. Dash needs the gauges I started installing finished being installed and the gauge cluster needs the pins swap to go from v6 to v8 for the tach to work. This was a well maintained explorer with clean paint and no major body damage just a scratch here and there and a scuff on plastic molding of front bumper that would not be noticable if you paint the bumper plastic satin black to match what I started doing with the rest of the painted trim. Roof rack was removed so the holes from it are just sealed with silicone but to me looks better than an ugly roof rack. The only rust is surface rust under rear portion of floor above rear axle and the front bumper braces in the outside corners of the front bumper. I did clean the braces and sprayed rust converter along with gloss black paint to help inhibit them from getting worse. When running all windows moved smoothly up and down and all switches worked and door handles all worked inside and out.Headliner has a couple small stains but is in good shape and not sagging or missing pieces. Door panels and all trim in great condition except where I cut to clear the speakerbox/amp rack. Has new brakes with slotted/drilled rotors front and rear.Has aftermarket HID headlight conversion low beam only and polished grill insert which has a scratch down the front that you notice if right up on it. Has four new shocks as well. A person could not build the motor itself for what I have my reserve at so even if someone bought it for parts you would be thousands ahead of buying all this stuff separately. Thanks again! |

How privacy fears are driving automakers in the age of the connected car [w/poll]
Wed, Aug 27 2014A recent GAO report concluded car companies don't adequately disclose how and why they share location data. As cars collect and store more and more data about the whereabouts of their drivers, automakers are responding to critics who say they should be more transparent about how those details are used. Ford is hiring a global privacy policy attorney to craft the company's customer privacy policies in the era of connected and autonomous cars. "In this emerging space, there is an important need to address customer privacy policies," reads a job description posted on the "people and careers" portion of the company's website. "As part of our compliance and ethics organization at Ford, this person will have an immediate and direct impact in shaping existing and future policy and corporate thinking in this area." Ford is creating the new position, based at its Dearborn headquarters, at a time technology advances are outpacing privacy protections. Earlier this year, a report from the federal government concluded car companies don't adequately disclose to motorists how and why they share location data. That report, from the Government Accountability Office, found many car companies did not describe how they shared location data, did not allow consumers to request their data be deleted and that there was a "wide variation" in how car companies retained vehicle-specific or identifiable location data. It noted there is increased risk of location data being used in ways "consumers did not intend." Ford was one of 10 companies the GAO surveyed while compiling its report. Customers are opting to share that data largely by using features like maps and turn-by-turn direction that are run by a vehicle's telematics unit. Depending on the company, it can be unclear how that data is collected, retained or shared. At the time the GAO report was issued, AAA, the nation's largest motoring club, urged carmakers to be more transparent in how they handle data and to offer stronger security protections. Shaping Autonomous Car Regulations At Ford, the new hire could change how the company handles that data. According to the job description, the successful applicant will, "demonstrate visionary thinking around privacy strategy – imagine how consumer and employee expectations around privacy may evolve and how business should adapt, develop approaches that maximize the benefit of data sharing for consumers and business, etc." (Emphasis from Ford).
Ford Focus was best-selling nameplate in 2012
Tue, 09 Apr 2013Last August, Ford made a few waves by claiming that the Ford Focus was, at that point, the top-selling car in the world. The automaker failed to account for variations of the Toyota Corolla wearing a different name (such as the Auris and Matrix), however. With official data from Polk coming in now, Ford is able to say that the Focus was, in fact, the best-selling nameplate in the world last year.
Using new-car registrations (which doesn't factor in fleet sales), the Polk data shows that a total of more than one million Focus models around the world. Strong sales in the US and China have led to a 16 percent increase in year-over-year Focus sales from 2011 that helped to create even more of a gap between it and the second-best global seller, the Corolla.
Ford also had the Fiesta and F-Series listed in the top 10 for worldwide nameplates, but what's even more impressive is the fact that the F-Series is only sold in North America. Scroll down to see the list (compiled by Ford using Polk data) of the top global sellers last year and a press release from Ford.
Toyota fears supplier pressure in Australia with GM pull out
Wed, 11 Dec 2013With Ford and General Motors both announcing an end to production in Australia, the country's auto industry is in a bad way. With the exit of two big players, there's increased concern that a third Australian manufacturer, Toyota, will be forced out, as well.
"We are saddened to learn of GM Holden's decision. This will place unprecedented pressure on the local supplier network and our ability to build cars in Australia," Toyota Australia said in a statement. The GM closure of Holden production will be the direct end to 2,900 jobs, but will also force a dramatic reduction in the size of the country's supplier network, as there will simply be fewer cars to build.
In the same statement, Toyota Australia said it would work with suppliers and local government to figure out whether continuing production Down Under was even feasible. According to Automotive News, a representative for the Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union told reporters it was "highly likely" that Toyota would also close up shop within the next few years.
