We have a 2000 Ford Excursion XLT V10 with 4-wheel drive. It has over 300,000 miles, and it does need work. It will run, but it is not safe to drive long distances as it had a small leak in the brake line that has turned into a bigger leak. It needs to have brake fluid added before taking it anywhere. My brother looked under the truck and could said he could see where it was leaking from. It also has the spark plug issues. We believe a spark plug blew a few weeks ago; now the truck runs really loudly and there is gas odor. All the spark plugs do look like they are intact however. We took it in for testing and found the spark plugs 2, 3, and 7 have cylinder misfires detected. There is a slow leak in the right rear tire. In the past, we have put fix a flat in it, and that has helped. Since the vehicle has been sitting undriven for a few weeks, however, the tire is currently flat, but we do have a full size spare tire.  The air conditioning is not working. We have been told that it needs a new compressor. Just recently someone ran into the passenger door and dented it when I was parked at work. The front driver's side mirror was also damaged. The heat and the blowers--both front and rear worked fine the last time we ran the heat back in April. We've had the steering column replaced. We had over $1000 in front end work done a few years ago, so the four wheel drive system works fine. There is some minor rust in places. We've used it as a family car for the last several years (a majority of the miles that we put on it were highway miles--trips to Milwaukee, Chicago, Oshkosh, and Philadelphia)--we are the second owners--we purchased it back in 2006). I love this truck and would keep it and get it repaired, but now that we have seven children, there isn't enough passenger seating (it seats 8), so we've purchased a passenger van. Because it has been a primary vehicle for a large family, the interior needs much work. The seats aren't in too bad of shape, but the carpets have seen better days. Everything needs to be cleaned thoroughly. It does have the third row seating and tow package. The fair condition estimate for this model is $4295. Local pick up only.  We are in Kenosha Wisconsin, right near the Illinois border, so we are in close proximity to Chicago and Milwaukee.  Please send us your best offer.

FCA to pay buyers $1,700 to swap out of scandal-mired VWs

Tue, Oct 6 2015

FCA is trying to gain some sales from arch-rival VW in the competitive European market by offering potential buyers in Italy up to $1,700 to swap into an FCA group car. While the promotion isn't specifically targeted at TDI owners affected by the emissions scandal, it is clearly intended to turn dissatisfaction with VW's defeat device cheat into additional sales, Bloomberg reports. The 500-1,500 euro incentive (roughly $560-1,700, depending on vehicle) stacks on top of any other rebates or deals applicable, and applies if a buyer brings in any of Volkswagen Group's cars – including Audi, Skoda, and SEAT, among (many) others. As Bloomberg notes, it's normal for automakers to offer "conquest" deals – giving a buyer cash for trading in a competitor's vehicle. Those deals aren't usually limited to one company's products, however; FCA's program looks specifically to take advantage of VW's legal and public relations nightmare. FCA isn't the only automaker trying this trick in Italy. Automotive News Europe also reported that Ford is offering approximately $840 in incentives across its entire range to owners of VW vehicles seeking to trade in for a Ford. No word of yet as to whether these incentives will spread beyond Italy or to other automakers.Related Video:

Ford EcoBoost successful because of Soviet laser weapons system expert?

Sun, 28 Jul 2013

Mike Kluzner is a man of many talents. Not only is he the software engineer responsible for fuel system diagnostics for Ford globally, he "got his start designing laser weapon systems capable of disabling the navigation systems of enemy satellites" for the former Soviet Union. Quite a résumé, wouldn't you say?
You may be asking yourself the same question that popped into our minds upon reading about Mr. Kluzner: What do laser weapon systems have to do with Ford and its EcoBoost engines? We'll let the man answer himself. "The same process for analyzing key physical relationships works for what we do today in engine combustion, catalyst chemistry and mechanics," says Kluzner. "These are all part of Ford's software engineering expertise." Who are we to argue?
Ford also employs an engineer who previously designed software to detect damage to the heat tiles on the International Space Station, as well as one who's past work involved particle physics, says the automaker in the press release below. David Bell (pictured above right), global boost system controls engineer for Ford, describes the software running EcoBoost as "the secret sauce" that makes the technology work as the driver intends and demands.

Ford to pay $17.35 million over Escape recall

Thu, 01 Aug 2013

Ford had a bit of a recall spree around this time last year, with a pair of issues on the then-new 2013 Escape, followed by a recall of 423,000 2001 to 2004 Escapes because they might accelerate of their own accord. Accordingly, Uncle Sam pasted Ford with a $17.35 million fine because it took too long to inform customers, according to a report from Automotive News.
Ford agreed to settle with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, accepting the fine but not admitting fault. The recall, which afflicted Escapes with the 3.0-liter V-6 along with 217,000 Mazda Tributes from 2001 to 2006 and 2008, was due to faulty gas pedals that could stay down after a driver removed their foot.
Ford issued a statement regarding the fine, saying, "We take the safety of our customers seriously and continuously evaluate our processes for improvements. While we are confident in our current processes for quickly identifying and addressing potential vehicle issues, Ford agreed to this settlement to avoid a lengthy dispute with the government."
