1971 Bill Stroppe prepared Baja Edition Bronco, rust free, highly optioned very nice Bronco. This Baja is on the Baja Bronco Registry and is a highly optioned Baja. It had all of the standard options. Saginaw power steering (present), Stroppe lettered automatic transmission adapter (present), padded steering wheel (not present), Stroppe Deluxe roll bar (present), trailer hitch (not present), dual shocks (present), cut fender rear wells (present), trimmed front fenders (present), spare tire cover (reproduction), and front bumper braces (passenger side present). In addition to the standard package, this Baja has a very cool Stroppe installed hood scoop. I found this Bronco painted green and the interior was brushed with asphalt emulsion. It was horrible to remove but kept the original floorboards rust free. The Bronco was given a paint job using Dupont Chromabase materials. All the chrome, the bumpers, and all the lenses were replaced. The suspension parts and axles were removed and all parts were powder coated when possible, otherwise painted. A 2 1/2" suspension lift was installed with all new poly bushings and 8 new shocks. The frame and underside of the tub were thoroughly cleaned and painted. I found some vintage American Racing slotted aluminum wheels, had them polished, and put 32x11.50 BFG All Terrain tires on. The seat springs and frames were powder coated and new foam and upholstery was installed. The dash was painted its original parchment color and the pad was replaced. The engine compartment was cleaned, painted, the gaskets were replaced on the motor. New valve covers, air cleaner, and exhaust have been installed. Many other things have been done to this Bronco such as a larger after-market fuel tank and a dual motor wiper conversion kit. A few custom touches have also been added to this Bronco. Bronco Design Roadster style door inserts were installed with custom belt line chrome added to the inserts. Bronco Design rear flares were put on, custom rivet-style bolts were used, and hood pins were installed to give it a super clean look. Running gear on this Bronco is all in excellent condition. The transmission shifts beautifully and the 351W is very powerful. 2 1/4" exhaust with glass packs makes this Bronco sound unbelievable. This Bronco draws a lot of attention at car shows or driving down the freeway. It looks and runs amazing, however it is 1971 technology and it's lifted with wide tires and a short wheel base. Every time I take it out, it takes me a minute to get used to driving it. Additionally this Bronco sits in the garage most of the time. It has always run great for me but I only take it out a few times a year. It's being sold as-is with no warranties. The fuel gauge has stopped working properly. The needle moves when you turn the key on but stays on E. The rear main does drip a little bit due to sitting. The radio is just a face plate only, I did not need an AM only radio but like the clean look of the original. This Bronco has performed excellent for me but I have only driven it to local car shows and parties. The paint is about 5 years old so some rock chips and normal wear and tear has occurred. Feel free to give me a call with any questions or to come take a look and drive it. My number is 360-921-4278. Seller is responsible for arranging and paying for shipping. My house is very near I-5 and there is a truck stop 5 minutes from my house for easy pick-up. Here are a couple of videos of my Bronco: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5HMqcy0H44 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lx0jy1BDNYI |

Get a taste of Ford GT ownership from Dust Devils
Thu, Jan 1 2015It seems that the automotive world might be right on the cusp of getting some kind of follow-up to the Ford GT. It might not be called the GT or even use the coupe's retro look, but rumors point to such a beast being on the way. If the future halo model can inspire as much adoration among fans as the previous ones, then the Blue Oval is sure to have another winner on its hands. To get idea just how closely GT owners are bonded to their cars, take a ride with the participants in the ninth Ford GT National Rally in this short documentary titled Dust Devils. The owners convened with over 80 of the retro supercars in Las Vegas, NV, to admire the coupes and give them a workout on the desert roads. It's especially nice to see the drivers of these limited production Fords unafraid to take their cars to the track and stretch their legs a little. The long, low-slung look is simultaneously menacing and lithe, and the growl from the latest model's supercharged V8 is nothing to complain about either. Get just the slightest taste of what it's like to have one of these halo Fords in this clip, from the people that love them the most. Least reliable cars and trucks of 2022
Tue, Nov 15 2022Related: Most reliable cars and trucks of 2022 Â Every year, Consumer Reports ranks new cars based on their predicted reliability. We often see Toyota, Lexus, and a few other automakers near the top. But on the other side of the coin, the list of least reliable vehicles sometimes contains surprises. Â The organization surveys its members to determine the vehicles that exhibited the most problems over the prior year. Owners are asked about creaks and rattles, the durability of parts and trim, and mechanical issues. Consumer Reports assigns a weight to each problem and then uses them to create a score, with 100 being the best. Some familiar names appear on the list of least reliable vehicles (in order with the lowest predicted reliability score at the top), but there are a few eyebrow-raising models, followed by CR's score: Ford F-150 Hybrid: 4 Hyundai Kona Electric: 5 Lincoln Aviator: 8 Nissan Sentra: 9 Ford Explorer: 16 Chevrolet Bolt: 17 Chevrolet Silverado 1500/GMC Sierra 1500: 19 Jeep Gladiator: 21 Mercedes-Benz GLE: 23 Jeep Wrangler: 24 Consumer Reports noted that sedans are the most reliable vehicle category and found that trucks are far lower on the list. That said, the survey showed that trucks from American brands tended to have better reliability scores, so it’s surprising to see GMÂ’s big two and the Ford F-150 on the list. Part of their problematic ownership experience could be due to the fact that all three trucks have received recent updates, and the Ford was completely redesigned for 2022. New tech, fresh drivetrain components, and other improvements can upset the balance of reliability and make newer models look less dependable than their older counterparts. Big electric trucks won't save the planet, says the NYT
Tue, Feb 21 2023When The New York Times decides that an issue is an issue, be prepared to read about it at length. Rarely will a week passes these days when the esteemed news organization doesn’t examine the realities, myths and alleged benefits and drawbacks of electric vehicles, and even The Atlantic joins in sometimes. That revolution, marked by changes in manufacturing, consumer habits and social “consciousness,” may in fact be upon us. Or it may not. Nonetheless, the newspaper appears committed to presenting to the public these pros and cons. In this recently published article titled, “Just How Good for the Planet Is That Big Electric Pickup Truck?”—wow, thatÂ’s a mouthful — the Times focuses on the “bigness” of the current and pending crop of EVs, and how that impacts or will impact the environment and road safety. This is not what news organizations these days are fond of calling “breaking news.” In October, we pointed to an essay in The Atlantic that covered pretty much the same ground, and focused on the Hummer as one particular villain, In the paper and online on Feb. 18, the Times' Elana Shao observes how “swapping a gas pickup truck for a similar electric one can produce significant emissions savings.” She goes on: “Take the Ford F-150 pickup truck compared with the electric F-150 Lightning. The electric versions are responsible for up to 50 percent less greenhouse gas emissions per mile.” But she right away flips the argument, noting the heavier electric pickup trucks “often require bigger batteries and more electricity to charge, so they end up being responsible for more emissions than other smaller EVs. Taking into consideration the life cycle emissions per mile, they end up just as polluting as some smaller gas-burning cars.” Certainly, itÂ’s been drummed into our heads that electric cars donÂ’t run on air and water but on electricity that costs money, and that the public will be dealing with “the shift toward electric SUVs, pickup trucks and crossover vehicles, with some analysts estimating that SUVs, pickup trucks and vans could make up 78 percent of vehicle sales by 2025." No-brainer alert: Big vehicles cost more to charge. And then thereÂ’s the safety question, which was cogently addressed in the Atlantic story. Here Shao reiterates data documenting the increased risks of injuries and deaths caused by larger, heavier vehicles.
