Fiat jokes 124 Spider as effective as Viagra

Fri, May 13 2016

Fiat has released a follow up to its innuendo-laden 500X ad from last year. But rather than a crossover, um, reacting to a certain little blue pill, the company's new 124 Spider is the pill. Now, Road and Track readers might remember seeing something about this video. It originally aired as part of the 124 Spider's debut footage from the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. At the time, it wasn't supposed to become a commercial – it was just a riff on a cheeky spot meant to sell CUVs. This new commercial is identical to the original footage shown in LA. Using the same old Italian couple as the previous spot, this new ad features an Italian man run out of his Viagra, and run off to get more. As it turns out, he just didn't need it. That's about all you need to know, really. So check out the ad up top.

Fiat/PSA's dominance in small vans hangs up EU's merger approval

Mon, Jun 8 2020

BRUSSELS — EU antitrust regulators are concerned about Fiat Chrysler and Peugeot / PSA's combined high market share in small vans and may require concessions to clear their $50 billion merger, people familiar with the matter said. The companies, which are seeking to create the world's fourth biggest carmaker, were told of the European Commission's concerns last week. If Fiat and PSA fail to dispel the European Commission's doubts in the next two days and subsequently decline to offer concessions by Wednesday, the deadline for doing so, the deal would face a four-month-long investigation. The EU competition enforcer, which has set a June 17 deadline for its preliminary review, declined to comment. Fiat was not immediately available for comment while PSA had no immediate comment. Hiving off overlapping businesses, usually a regulatory demand to ensure more competition, could prove tricky for the carmakers because of the technicalities. Fiat and PSA are looking to merge to help offset slowing demand and shoulder the cost of making cleaner vehicles to meet tougher emissions regulations. The deal puts under one roof the Italian carmaker's brands such as Fiat, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, Maserati and the French company's Peugeot, Opel and DS. Fiat sells part of its historic Lingotto factory in Turin

Tue, Feb 22 2022

Stellantis-owned Fiat is selling part of its historic Lingotto factory in Turin, Italy, in a bid to downsize its real estate assets. Inaugurated in 1923, the facility built numerous Fiat models until it closed in 1982, and a test track built on its roof made it famous all around the world. Italian website Motori Online reported that digital services specialist Reply purchased a roughly 215,000-square-foot chunk of the complex with plans to turn it into an office building. There's no word yet on how much Fiat sold the space for, but most sources agree that the firm will retain ownership of the test track. And, the building itself isn't going anywhere: Reply will move in, but it won't knock it down and rebuild it. The test track that made Lingotto famous wasn't merely a gimmick: it was an important part of the production process for several decades. Raw materials entered the building on the ground floor and cars made their way through several stations scattered across the five floors before ending up (in one piece) on the roof. They were then driven for about half a mile before being sent out of the complex. This sped up the production process because road testers could put new cars through their paces without having to leave Turin, and it allowed Fiat to test prototypes without worrying about getting spotted by spy photographers. The track was also featured in the 1969 movie The Italian Job.  This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Fiat isn't the first Stellantis brand to leave its historic home. Peugeot left its headquarters in downtown Paris for the same reasons in 2017. Related video: This content is hosted by a third party.
