Ferrari Testarossa featured in retrospective by owner Harry Metcalfe

Fri, 24 Oct 2014

Harry Metcalfe, of Evo fame, got our attention earlier this week with a review of the 1954 Series I Land Rover. Today, he's gone a bit more... '80s.
Yes, this is a 1987 Ferrari Testarossa, one of the most vulgar cars from a decade synonymous with vulgar design. While your author might not be keen on its square rear end and cheese-grater doors and fenders, Metcalfe seems to like it quite a bit, giving a detailed walkthrough of his Rosso Corsa subject. That walkthrough includes some time on a subject we can certainly get behind - the TR's flat-12 engine.
Take a look at the latest from Harry's Garage.

Santa swaps his sleigh for a Ferrari-powered Toyota

Fri, Dec 23 2016

A Ferrari-powered Toyota 86 is sure to garner a bit of attention, as well it should. We've been paying attention throughout this build, so it should be no surprise then that Santa did as well. He's ditched his red sleigh for the Gumout GT4586 in this video. If you've been following along, you know that Ryan Tuerck and Gumout built this completely bonkers machine that's far more exciting than some previous Japanese/Italian mash-up automobiles. Donut Media has been doing their part to document and promote every stage of the process. This new video is filled with the gratuitous amounts of lights, noise, and tire smoke that Donut is known for. We don't know the conversion from horsepower to reindeerpower, but the GT4586 should provide plenty of oomph for Santa's Christmas trek. F1 cars will have cockpit protection for the 2018 season

Fri, Jul 29 2016

Formula 1's sanctioning body, the FIA, reported that the F1 Strategy Group decided chose the 2018 season to be the first to feature new cockpit technology to protect drivers. The decision was made to allow more time to develop the technology, instead of rushing it into use. The halo design being tested by Ferrari is still the most likely solution that uses a solid ring above and around the cockpit with a central pillar ahead of the driver. The F1 Strategy Group did say that they will be open to any other options that may develop in the coming year. Red Bull has also been developing a system that is closer to a wind-screen. The push to develop new safety technology came after Jules Bianchi's fatal crash with a recovery truck at the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix. His car slipped underneath the back of the truck leaving his head vulnerable in the impact. It is possible a device like the Halo could have prevented this, but in its current, it form wouldn't protect a driver from the sort of loose debris that hit Felipe Massa during qualifying for the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix.
