2005 Ferrari 612

FOR SALE:   On offer is this beautiful 2005 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti.  In a sea of red cars, this Grigio Titanio over Nero 612 stands out and the color really shows off the beautiful lines of this 2+2 Scaglietti.  In fact, most fans consider Titanium/Black as the best color combination on the 612! This car is in excellent condition inside, outside, and mechanically.  It includes everything - complete tools, complete jack kit, tire inflator, factory silk covers, owner's manual, two keys, etc.  If you're serious about finding the right 612, this is the car for you.

The car has been properly serviced including the most recent "major" service (belts/cam seals/upper gaskets/fluids/filters/plugs/air conditioning/rear ball joints) performed over the past couple of weeks.  Also important to note is the fact that this car has no accident history, and we're fairly certain there hasn't been any paintwork done to the car aside from the front bumper (which we had done for stone chips, then re-covered in 3M clear bra to protect it).  Of course both the Carfax and Autocheck are clean.

Please read through the detailed description and have a look at the numerous photos we've posted.  If you have any questions about the car, don't hesitate to email.  If you're interested in seeing it in person, contact us to sort out a time to meet.  If you would like to have a pre-purchase inspection (PPI) done, please contact us and we can assist with those arrangements.

OWNERSHIP/SERVICE HISTORY:   Our research has determined this car to have had only two owners.
  • The first owner purchased the car brand new in fall 2005 and he kept it a through April of 2010 - covering only 8,087 miles in that time.  Service records indicate the car was properly serviced at Ferrari during the first owner's possession.
  • The second owner, a CEO of a major real estate consulting firm, purchased the car from an authorized Ferrari dealership in May 2010, and he kept it from then through April 2013.  Owner number two traveled approximately fourteen thousand miles during that three year period.  Of course the car was consistently serviced at Ferrari dealers during the second owner's possession and it was very well taken care of.

EXTERIOR:   The outside of this Titanium Ferrari 612 is in absolutely gorgeous condition and will definitely not disappoint.  Factory Scuderia Shields accent the beautiful sweep of the front fenders and neatly show the car's heritage. As previously mentioned, this car has never been in an accident and it doesn't appear to have had any paintwork outside of the front bumper being painted for stone chips (we had the work done).  Both doors, the hood, the trunk, and even the gas door all open/close and latch smoothly.  All of the gaps around the car are even, each panel fits as it would have the day it were new, and none of the bolts have "been turned".  There are some very faint swirl marks from towel drying, but there aren't any significant scratches on the car.  Of course there are no dings or dents anywhere either.  On the top edge of the rear bumper you will see a thin scrape (since touched up) from where golf clubs gave trouble getting out of the trunk, but that's about it.  This is a very nice looking car and we're sure you will agree the exterior is in excellent condition.

The lack of cosmetic imperfections is a sign of the prior owner's conscientiousness towards the car.  You can see in the photos that it includes a 3M clear bra - likely the reason there are so few chips on the leading edges.  The car was regularly detailed and kept very clean outside and underneath... another sign the past owners were careful custodians of this Ferrari.

INTERIOR:   This Ferrari 612 has black interior that is accented with silver trim, and it's in great condition.  Starting with the seats, you'll see they are in excellent shape and don't have the typical shrinking or pulling.  The seats are also free of heavy bolster damage, and show only the lightest wear.  Important to note is these seats haven't been re-dyed.  Move to the door panels and you will find the leather is tight and fits just as it should.  All of the glass is factory and without blemishes.  All of the switches, controls, vent surrounds, console inserts, etc are all dry to the touch and don't have the "stickies" issue so many Ferraris had.  On to the dash, and you'll see there is slight pulling of the leather where the BOSE center speaker rests.  I'm confident an upholstery shop could re-stretch it nicely.  In the dash you will see the prior owner updated the factory radio unit with one that offers a flip-up navigation screen.  This stereo sounds great with the BOSE speaker system in the car from the factory.

I attribute the great condition of the leather inside to the past owners' use of a reflective windshield screen while the car was parked, as well as being garaged most of it's life.  It's important to have these details that you can see so well covered, to be more assured that the underlying care has also been addressed.

MECHANICS:   Plain and Simple - this car runs superb.  The engine starts up without hesitation and it idles and revs smoothly and without issue.  We had the car checked out and our Ferrari mechanic inspecting the car spoke about how well it runs and drives.  There were no odd fault codes stored, and there are no issues with check engine lights or any other warning lights. *Note the photos showing the gauges in ready position and running - you can clearly see all of the lights operate properly and none of them illuminate while the car's running*  The suspension on this Ferrari is tight and there are no rattles or other noises on side streets or on the highway.  The brakes are good, and the parking brake works properly too.  The transmission shifts without issue up and down through the full gear range, and it does it cold or warm.  The clutch engages properly and grips well throughout the RPM range, just as it should.  In fact, the clutch measured 83% life remaining when it was scanned last week on the Leonardo Ferrari scanner!  The Pirelli tires are all in great shape and show even wear indicating the suspension is in good order.  They measure approximately 80% tread remaining, so you won't have a tire bill anytime soon.  Once again, the car was just serviced and had the belts, seals, upper gaskets, hoses, fluids, filters, plugs, etc replaced, so it needs nothing.  This car is turn key and ready to go.

IN CLOSING:   If there's any questions you have at this point, please email me and I'll get back to you ASAP.  We have priced this Ferrari very fairly, and I want to make sure we cover any and all questions you have about the car.  If it's your first Ferrari, please make sure you do some research on the owner's forums to understand what you need to look for when buying a 612 (or any other Ferrari).  Far to often people will try to buy a car that costs slightly less in hopes of getting a "deal"... but by the time they add up all of the expenses to make the car "right", they realize they should have just bought a nice car in the first place and probably saved quite a bit of money in the process.  Make sure you buy a nice clean Ferrari, and get one that has been well taken care of, and comes complete.  I'm confident that if you choose this one, it will meet or exceed all of your expectations.

Thanks for your time.

Chief justice invokes 'Ferris Bueller' Ferrari in Supreme Court car case

Wed, Jan 10 2018

WASHINGTON — U.S. Supreme Court justices on Tuesday wrestled with the scope of police authority to search vehicles without warrants, with Chief Justice John Roberts referencing the shiny red Ferrari taken for a joyride in the 1986 comedy film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" to make a serious legal point. The justices heard arguments in two cases in which convicted defendants are seeking to have key evidence against them thrown out because it was obtained by police officers through vehicle searches conducted without a court-issued warrant. One case involved a stolen motorcycle that was covered by a tarpaulin and parked on private property next to a house in Charlottesville, Virginia. The other involved a rental car stopped by police in Pennsylvania — driven by a man who was not named on the agreement with the rental agency — in which heroin was found. At issue is whether police in the two cases violated the U.S. Constitution's Fourth Amendment, which protects against unreasonable searches and seizures. In the motorcycle case, Roberts and other justices seemed concerned about issuing a broad ruling in favor of law enforcement that would let police officers not just inspect the immediate area outside a property without a warrant but also potentially inside a house if a vehicle is located there. Under the Fourth Amendment, police need a warrant to search a house unless there is an emergency situation. In the case of convicted defendant Ryan Collins, the motorcycle was a few feet from the house. In "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" starring Matthew Broderick, three teenagers skip school and take a ride in a red 1963 Ferrari Modena Spyder California that was parked inside a showroom-type garage apparently attached to a house. After mentioning the film's car, Roberts asked Trevor Cox, the state of Virginia's lawyer who was defending the police search, whether he was arguing that police "can just go in" to a house without a warrant because a car is "mobile and they got it in there somehow (so) they can get it out." Roberts also mentioned comedian Jay Leno, known for storing a large collection of cars. Other justices voiced similar concerns, including Neil Gorsuch, who seemed troubled about police officers being able to search garages and other outbuildings without a warrant. "Not many people live in their garage. Some people do, some people do, and in barns, but usually they're reserved for cars and for animals.

Fernando Alonso gives German TV interview driving Ferrari F12 at the Nordschleife

Tue, 16 Jul 2013

Fernando Alonso gave a wide-ranging interview to German television station RTL, the Spanish driver and German interviewer conducting the session in Italian, driving a special Italian car on very special German track. Among many answers - from the industriousness of his native Ovideo, Spain to where he relaxes - Alonso gives Ferrari an eight out of ten for the season, admitting they don't have the fastest car but they have a complete car, and refuses to give himself a number, only saying that he is more complete as well than when he first entered.
Beyond the normal-guy persona and wealth of topics, the 10-minute interview is neat for being able to watch Alonso hurl the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta over and around kerbs while he's answering questions. You can check it all out in the video below.

Ferrari 488 GTB rocks throwback '80s livery in Paris

Tue, Apr 19 2016

We have a soft spot for retro racing liveries – especially when they're applied to road-legal supercars. Like a Porsche 918 Spyder with Martini racing stripes, a Ford GT in Gulf blue and orange, or this latest Ferrari 488 GTB unveiled in Paris. The Tailor Made department in Maranello prepared this one-of-a-kind 488 in tribute to the 308 GTB that Jean Claude Andruet drove to victory twice in the Tour de France Automobile – in 1981 and '82 – only a few years before the event was discontinued. It was one of the most iconic of Ferrari racing liveries (aside from the classic rosso corsa of course) and is beautifully reinterpreted for that car's modern successor. The unique treatment includes a French racing blue and white exterior with Pioneer sponsorship, matte gold wheels, and matte black brake calipers. The interior looks as stripped-out as the 458 Speciale's and features red fabric seats with matte-finish aluminum and carbon-fiber trim. Commissioned by Charles Pozzi, the same Paris dealer that campaigned the original decades ago, the turbocharged retro smurf was unveiled yesterday at the Grand Palais. It marked the start of the Tour Auto Optic 2000, a French rally. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. The GTC4Lusso makes its French premiere at the Grand Palais The 488 GTB Tailor Made Pioneer also unveiled for the first time Paris, 18th April 2016 – What better setting than the Grand Palais in Paris for the GTC4Lusso, Ferrari's latest creation, to make its debut on French soil? The new Prancing horse V12 four-seater, four wheel drive with rear-wheel steering, was a magnet for the over 200 journalists who attended the premiere this afternoon on the opening day of the Tour Auto Optic 2000 rally. The GTC4Lusso will be also the star attraction at a gala cocktail in the evening for over four hundred guests who will have the opportunity to see this superb example of a unique mix of benchmark sports car performance, all-weather versatility and sublime elegance. This very important "rendez-vous" is also the occasion for Ferrari to present a unique version of its 488 GTB. In association with its Parisian dealer Charles Pozzi, the very exclusive Tailor Made program imagined a car which pays homage to the 308 Gr4 Pioneer driven by Jean Claude Andruet and two times winner of the Tour de France Auto in 1981 and 1982.
