1962 Ferrari 250 GTO with $45M estimate most expensive car offered at auction

Not long after a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO was sold for a staggering $70 million, another is coming up for sale. At RM Sotheby's Monterey sale in late August, a 1962 250 GTO carries a pre-auction estimate of more than $45 million. Reportedly all original 250 GTOs built between 1962 and 1964 have survived, and they are all worth serious money. This 250 GTO, chassis number 3413GT, started its life as a works car tested by American racer Phil Hill at the 1962 Targa Florio road race. The third one built in a 36-unit production run, the car won numerous races in the hands of its first private owner, Edoardo Lualdi-Gabardi, who won the Italian National GT championship with it. Later on, Gianni Bulgari of Bulgari jewelry fame continued to race the car, and miraculously it was never crashed, nor did it have to discontinue a race. Despite that, 3413GT received a new, Series II specification body by Carrozzeria Scaglietti in 1964. The Ferrari was last sold in 2000 for an already respectable $7 million, and it wasn't stowed away for two decades: it's been seen at countless classic events and vintage races. RM Sotheby's says the car has been maintained in "highly original" condition, and it will be interesting to see how it performs at the auction, compared to a previous 250 GTO auction record of $38 million in 2014. Ferrari auctioning one-off LaFerrari for Italian earthquake relief

Ferrari is about as Italian as Italian gets, so it's no surprise that the company is launching an initiative to help the victims of this year's two major central Italian earthquakes. And it involves a LaFerrari. Ferrari, RM Sotheby's, and the National Italian American Foundation's Earthquake Relief Fund are partnering up to auction off a one-off LaFerrari from the company's own collection at the upcoming Finali Mondiali on December 3. All proceeds from the auction will go to the reconstruction efforts in central Italy following August's magnitude 6.2 quake and the string of quakes that hit late last month. If you're heading to the Daytona International Speedway for Finali Mondiali and have seven-figure's worth of cash burning a hole in your finely lined pockets, it's worth mentioning what you could bid on. The LaFerrari in question wears the company's traditional Rosso Corsa, but sports white accents down its body and an Italian tricolor on its nose. Ferrari says bespoke interior stylings complement the one-of-a-kind exterior treatment. The special LaFerrari will cross the block at RM Sotheby's on December 3. Related Video:

There are innumerable advantages to a company having its own test track on premises like Ferrari has with Fiorano. The Scuderia may not be able to test its Formula One machinery much on the track these days, what with the limitations placed by the FIA, but the factory can still use the circuit to wring out the road-going machinery it has under development – to say nothing of opportunities for visiting customers, journalists and VIPs. But it also means that the paparazzi know where to look to see what the company has in the works. In this case, supercar videographer extraordinaire Marchettino caught a Ferrari FF prototype running some hot laps around Fiorano. But to what end, exactly, we don't know. With the 458 expected to be updated shortly, the twelve-cylinder, four-seat, all-wheel-drive FF will soon be the oldest model in the company's lineup (introduced as it was in 2011), which would ostensibly put it next in line for a refresh. There've been rumors of a more elegant roofline to replace the hatchback, and even an eight-cylinder version to bring the model down-market slightly – although that might bring it too close to the California T. We'll have to wait and see what Ferrari has in store for its first and only all-wheel-drive model. But as you can hear for yourself in the video above, the exhaust sounds pretty raunchy, even by Maranello standards.
