2015 Ferrari California T [w/video]
Tue, 03 Jun 2014I'll never forget the day I bought my very first Ferrari. It was a bright-red F40, I'd saved up for it for what felt like an eternity and I couldn't wait to get home so I could park it next to my other four-wheeled piece of pride and joy, a stealth-black Lamborghini Countach, so I could compare their blunt-edge, wedge-like shapes and massive spoilers in microscopic detail.
The year was 1987, and the event felt like the pinnacle of my life's achievement. Though both of my Italians had been die-cast in 1/18th scale, I coveted the two supercars with the verve of a true collector, taking in the intricacies of their engine bays, opening their doors and turning their working steering wheels. In reality, the two could have hardly been more different, and yet they both looked like finely crafted perfection to my seven-year-old eyes, their questionable day-to-day practicality completely overshadowed by their unquestionably exotic shapes.
More than two decades later, I'm belting myself into the driver's seat of the 2015 Ferrari California T, the first turbocharged Ferrari since the F40 went out of production in 1992. The Tuscan countryside spreads out ahead, a twisting barrage of two-lane roads on the agenda, and I can't help but reminisce of my much younger self as I twist the red key and thumb the equally red ignition button on the steering wheel.
Ferrari reveals extra 'speciale' 458
Tue, May 31 2016Ferrari revealed this creamy white riff on the 458 on Tuesday. But don't get too excited: It's a one-off creation built specifically for a British owner. Called the 458 MM Speciale, the supercar debuted at Fiorano, where Ferrari chief test driver Dario Benuzzi and the unnamed owner turned laps. The 458 MM Speciale is based on the 458 Speciale and uses its natural aspirated V8 paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. This one-off is painted a shade of white called Bianco Italia. The Italian flag colors are used for stripes that run down the center of the car. Designed by the Ferrari Styling Center, the car has blacked-out A-pillars that create a visor look, updates to the aluminum bodywork, and carbon-fiber composite bumpers. There is also a new side air scoop, new air intakes, and the radiators are mounted at different angles to aid cooling. There's a tasteful spoiler in back, and the speedster rolls on eye-catching wheels with a custom cluster pattern. Inside, the owner chose an upgraded audio system and Cioccolato leather with white stitching. The controls are accented with satin white rings. What's it like to wakeboard behind a Ferrari F50? Glad you asked
Wed, Nov 26 2014Peons. Peasants. Plebians. Ohioans. You think the videos that show you water skiing or wakeboarding behind pickup trucks are cool? They aren't. Wakeboarding behind a Ferrari F50, though, is most assuredly awesome. Those over-wealthy Einsteins at YouTube channel Tax The Rich have released their latest stunt, which shows a charming yellow F50 towing a wakeboarder down what looks like an irrigation canal. It really is as cool as it sounds.
