1986 Ferrari 328 GTS
One of the last Ferraris engineered and launched during Enzo Ferrari's lifetime, the 328 succeeded the highly popular 308 for the 1986 model year and offered an increased displacement V-8 and a myriad of detail improvements throughout. The mid-engined 328, offered in both hardtop (GTB) and Targa/Spider (GTS) forms, featured an upgraded 3.2-liter V-8 putting out 270 horsepower, thanks to a sophisticated Marelli electronic ignition system and the retained Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. The styling was freshened with new door handles and tidier and more modern treatment to the front and rear fascias both of which gained body color bumpers. The interior was significantly reworked as well, with new switch gear and revised dashboard and door trims. Production of the 328 ended in the fall of 1989, marking the end of the transverse mid engine Ferraris, a line that began with the 246 Dino. Nowadays, 328s are revered for their blend of usability and comparable reliability, as well as the comparative ease of servicing since the engine does not need to be removed to perform a belt service. This car had one long term owner who serviced the car fastidiously from 1992 to 2013. That owner purchased the car at Lake Forest Sports Cars in Illinois and brought the car with him when he moved to Palm Springs in 2008. He serviced the car consistently, including a belt service in 2009 and another belt service in August of 2011 at 57,348 miles. The water pump was also rebuilt at the air conditioner serviced with new compressor and receiver-drier. The car had a recent complete repaint in its original color (due to aging of the original finish rather than accident damage) and the wheels were also refinished. The car is in excellent cosmetic condition. The paintwork was done to very good standards and is virtually unmarked, with minor orange peel in certain areas and a handful of small marks but extremely fresh presentation overall. The body is straight and displays proper panel fit, gaps, and operation. The wheels were refinished and are excellent. The glass and lights are in very good condition with minor road wear to the front windscreen. The interior is in good original condition. The dashboard is excellent. The leather upholstery is generally good, with minor wear to the driver’s seat bolster and a small hole in the same area. The leather is intact and free from cracks but is a bit hard. The carpets are in very good shape with the only significant blemish being some cracking to the binding on the driver’s floor mat. The switches and instruments are in good original condition. The engine compartment is tidy, clean, and detailed to good standards. It is stock in appearance and shows minor aging to some painted components but presents extremely nicely overall. The trunk is in good shape with nice original carpet although the zipper on the cover is broken. The front compartment is in good original condition with original plastic liner, spare, and mechanical components such as fan motors and windscreen washer reservoir. This is a great opportunity to acquire a well-maintained 328 GTS that is up to date on service and finished in an attractive and unusual color combination. 328s have been enjoying significant appreciation in recent years and as such they represent excellent opportunities for investment potential thanks to their blend of relatively modern operation and performance with the attractive economics of classic cars. It was owned by the same fastidious owner for over twenty years and is complete with books, jack, and service records back to 1992. TERMS AND CONDITIONS: This car is sold AS IS without warranty. Early Ferrari F40 prototype destroyed in roadside fire
Mon, May 1 2017The people behind Tax the Rich have made a name for themselves by doing the sort of things with six and seven-figure supercars that Ken Block does with rally-prepped Subarus and Fords. The group's last video, released just over a year ago, features a rare prototype Ferrari F40. According to Ferrari Chat and IVG.it, another car from that collection is no more, having been reduced to a thin, black crisp. It's a terrible thing to see cars end up in such a state, especially one with such a storied history. It's unclear how the fire started, but old Italian supercars don't exactly have the best reputation for reliability. Hell, even some new Ferraris have had issues with catching fire. This particular F40 is believed to be the sixth prototype ever built by Maranello, going on display at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1987. According to Motor 1, the car was converted to GT spec in 1991 and raced continually over its life. While some rare supercars have been brought back from the brink and fully restored, it's hard to imagine there is any way to salvage what's left. A Facebook video from Patrich Poggi shows a broken, sullen husk, parked on the side of the road and covered in fire retardant. If you didn't already know, it would be difficult to tell what sort of car you'd be looking at. At least this F40 spent its life on the road and on the track rather than sitting in the back of a garage in someone's collection. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. Dolphins Lineman Richie Incognito Takes Baseball Bat To Own Ferrari
Fri, Feb 28 2014Concerned neighbors called police to the home of Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Richie Incognito Wednesday after seeing a baseball bat laying next to his battered new black Ferrari FF. They feared the football player had been the victim of a vandal, when actually it was Incognito himself who trashed his own car. CBS Miami reported Incognito took the bat to his car in a fit of rage. There were red shirts hanging from the car with Incognito's name written on them, according to TMZ. Fox 10 reached out to Incognito for an explanation as to why he would batter his own luxury sports car. "Oh that was that was just me venting, that was self expression, that's a piece of art," Incognito told Fox 10. "The happiest day of my life was when I got that car and now the second happiest day will be when I donate it to charity." Incognito has struggled with anger management issues in the past. He wrecked his car just weeks after an NFL investigation found him and two other offensive linemen had engaged in harassing fellow teammates. In 2009 he was named the NFL's 'dirtiest player.' Incognito was suspended from play in November, but had the suspension lifted earlier this month. Related Gallery Consumer Reports 2014 Top Picks View 11 Photos Weird Car News Ferrari
Jock Clear, Lewis Hamilton's race engineer at Mercedes, moves to Ferrari
Sun, Dec 28 2014The HR office at the Ferrari Formula One team has been exceptionally busy this year, and the churn hasn't ceased. Just this month under new team principal Mauricio Arrivabene – the third team principal in 2014 – lead designer Nikolas Tombazis and engineering director Pat Fry were let go, and tire performance expert Hirohide Hamashima will leave the team at the end of the year. Now there's another batch of HR paperwork to be completed, but this is a new hire to join Sebastian Vettel and Esteban Gutierrez: Jock Clear, Lewis Hamilton's performance engineer this season at Mercedes AMG Petronas. Clear will take over Pat Fry's vacant role as head of engineering, and brings a Driver's World Championship pedigree with him, having helped Hamilton to his second title and Jacques Villeneuve to his sole title in 1997 with Williams. He hasn't joined the Scuderia yet, though; Ferrari is still negotiating with Mercedes to "secure his services as soon as possible." Clear will work in a totally revamped engineering department and report to technical director and ex-Lotus F1 man James Allison. The last time Ferrari went an entire season without a win was 1993. The team has attempted to hedge expectations for 2015, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne saying, "I think hopefully within the next 12 months we will remove all the baggage of uncertainty that is going to plague at least the initial phase of 2015." Hope springs yet, though: when Arrivabene was asked what he'd be happy with next year, he said, "two or three wins."
