1962 Ferrari 250 GTO with $45M estimate most expensive car offered at auction
Wed, Jun 20 2018Not long after a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO was sold for a staggering $70 million, another is coming up for sale. At RM Sotheby's Monterey sale in late August, a 1962 250 GTO carries a pre-auction estimate of more than $45 million. Reportedly all original 250 GTOs built between 1962 and 1964 have survived, and they are all worth serious money. This 250 GTO, chassis number 3413GT, started its life as a works car tested by American racer Phil Hill at the 1962 Targa Florio road race. The third one built in a 36-unit production run, the car won numerous races in the hands of its first private owner, Edoardo Lualdi-Gabardi, who won the Italian National GT championship with it. Later on, Gianni Bulgari of Bulgari jewelry fame continued to race the car, and miraculously it was never crashed, nor did it have to discontinue a race. Despite that, 3413GT received a new, Series II specification body by Carrozzeria Scaglietti in 1964. The Ferrari was last sold in 2000 for an already respectable $7 million, and it wasn't stowed away for two decades: it's been seen at countless classic events and vintage races. RM Sotheby's says the car has been maintained in "highly original" condition, and it will be interesting to see how it performs at the auction, compared to a previous 250 GTO auction record of $38 million in 2014. At the very least, 3413GT's estimate makes it the most valuable car ever put up for auction. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. You can buy President Donald Trump's old Ferrari F430
Fri, Mar 10 2017You don't see this every day: This Ferrari F430 was formerly owned by President Donald Trump. Judging by the car's title, that point is indisputable. That makes it both a celebrity-owned vehicle, and a Presidential vehicle. It's quite the two-for-one. It could also become yours if you have the dough. This Ferrari comes from the second, presumably less famous owner, and will go for auction at the Auctions America event in Fort Lauderdale. The auction runs from March 31 to April 2, with the F430 crossing the block on April 1. Considering the original owner's tastes, it's a little surprising how restrained this car is. It's in classic Ferrari red with a tan leather interior. Not many options were added either, according to the original dealer sticker. The whole list includes red-painted brake calipers, an optional style of power seat called "Daytona," Scuderia Ferrari shield badges, and an upholstered headliner. In the end, combined with the destination charge, Trump's Ferrari came out to a little under $198,000 (its base price was $184,000). Auctions America expects to get a bit more for it. The auction estimate is $250,000 to $350,000. It also has just under 6,000 miles and is complete with all of its manuals, tool kit, and service records. If it were our money though, we'd go off and find an F430 that wasn't owned by a celebrity, and with a true manual transmission, as opposed to the paddle-shifted F1 gearbox in this model. Both characteristics would make it cheaper, and more fun to drive. Related Video:
Ferrari is debuting a new car Thursday
Wed, Feb 27 2019In a social media blast across its Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts, Ferrari released a seven-second teaser for a new car that is set to debut Feb. 28. A few subtle details hint at what it might be. Accompanying the short teaser clip were two short sentences: "Tomorrow, the Prancing Horse family welcomes a new member," it says. "Make room for new thrills." The clip flashes several up-close parts of the car including a grille, an air intake, a steering wheel with paddle shifters, a drive mode selector, a tachometer, and the top of an engine. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. The engine is the most revealing part of the clip. It appears to be the V8 from the 488 Pista, which separates itself visually with carbon fiber covers, rather than the red covers seen in other Ferraris. If it is indeed that V8, it could potentially align with the report that Ferrari would be debuting a hybrid V8 supercar this year. This would just be sooner than we were expecting it. A secondary intriguing part of the video is the gear selector. The clips shows the normal modes seen on other Ferraris, including Wet, Sport, Race, CT off, and Esc off. But there's a sixth blurry white spot, which could be absolutely nothing, or it could indicate another type of driving mode. What would be important enough to add a driving mode? Maybe a hybrid? All we can do is speculate, but thankfully, only for a day more. Check back for the full reveal and full information on Feb. 28.
