The Ferrari Roma is revealed as a gorgeous two-door Italian coupe
Wed, Nov 13 2019There’s a new Ferrari in town, and itÂ’s called the Roma. Take a second to enjoy the few photos Ferrari shared with us for the time being. ItÂ’s a gorgeous two-door coupe. Unfortunately, Ferrari hasnÂ’t said much beyond the carÂ’s vitals yet. We know itÂ’s equipped with the 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8, which is paired to the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission found in the SF90 Stradale. The boosted V8 is sitting at 611 horsepower and 561 pound-feet of torque. Ferrari says itÂ’ll get to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed somewhere just north of 198 mph. Its wheelbase is exactly the same as the older California T and new Portofino at 105.1 inches, but itÂ’s slightly longer overall by a few inches. The carÂ’s dry weight is quoted at 3,245 pounds, which makes it lighter than the California T convertible and Portofino replacement. WeÂ’re guessing the Portofino and this car share a similar platform, but Ferrari doesnÂ’t make that clear in its rather sparse release. The car is described as a “2+ coupe,” but we can't see what's actually behind the front seats in photos. WeÂ’ve asked Ferrari for further clarification here. As for the rest of the interior, it looks like a revolution in technology and design. We spy a completely new infotainment system and center stack layout, and the gauge cluster is all digital, as well. Plenty of touch capacitive buttons appear to have made their way into the cabin, and weÂ’re especially confused by the operation of the strange gear selector just below the central infotainment system (pictured below). Just like other new Ferraris, the passenger has a screen directly in front of them, too. ItÂ’s a good looking interior; we just want to know more about it. Ferrari says itÂ’s called “Roma” to represent the “carefree, pleasurable way of life that characterized Rome in the 1950s and ‘60s.” WeÂ’ll have more to share with you soon, so check back for additional details on the newest Ferrari.
Top tier supercars go for top dollar at RM Sotheby's Pinnacle Portfolio auction
Fri, Aug 14 2015Ferraris continue to rake in money during classic car auctions, and the sale of RM Sotheby's Pinnacle Portfolio collection during Monterey Car Week is only further proof of that. The Prancing Horse grabbed four of the top five spots among the 25 vehicles crossing the block. The leader among them was a 1964 Ferrari 250 LM with an extensive racing history that went for $17.6 million, according to the company's unofficial numbers sent to Autoblog. The only vehicle to keep Ferrari from locking out the top five was a 1998 McLaren F1 LM-Specification that went for $13.75 million. It's claim to fame included being the second-to-last road version of these famous supercars built. Plus, the coupe is only one of two with the LM spec package, which included the 680-horsepower racing version of the V12. Showing more modern Ferraris are also appreciating, a 2005 Enzo went for $6.05 million, taking third place. This example was the last one ever made and was originally gifted by the company to Pope John Paul II. However, he had the car sold for charity. Similarly special, fourth went to a 1994 F40 LM racecar for $3.3 million. Finally, a 1967 275 GTB/4 rounded out the top five also at $3.3 million. Amazingly, the vehicles in the Pinnacle Portfolio came from just one person who the company only identified as a "private US-based gentleman collector." Check out the gallery to see all 25 rolling across the block, including a Toyota 2000GT, Porsche 959, and Jaguar XJ220.
Race Recap: Brazil ends the 2013 F1 season with whimpers, bangs [spoilers]
Mon, 25 Nov 2013When the grid lined up at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace in Brazil there were just 71 laps, almost 306 kilometers, until the end of the 2013 season. Sometimes the circuit in Interlagos is deciding a Championship winner or showcasing new talent, and sometimes it's merely deciding a winner. This year was the latter.
2013 World Champion Sebastian Vettel in the first Infiniti Red Bull Racing lined up in front of Nico Rosberg in the first Mercedes-AMG Petronas, Fernando Alonso in the first Ferrari, Mark Webber in the second Red Bull and his final Formula One race, Lewis Hamilton in the second Mercedes, Romain Grosjean in the Lotus, Daniel Ricciardo in the first Toro Rosso and his final race for the team before moving to Red Bull, his teammate Jean-Éric Vergne, Felipe Massa in the second Ferrari and Nico Hülkenberg in the Sauber.
There were numerous theories about what surprises might occur, with race day being the first dry running of the weekend and rain predicted to fall at some point during the running. The first surprise came when the lights went out and Vettel, the consummate starter, got beat to the first corner.
