Up for sale is a 1968 3/4 ton 4-speed vintage Power Wagon with factory LU2 Braden PTO winch.  The truck is equipped with Dana 44 front axle and Dana 60 rear.  I bought this truck from the 2nd owner.  They bought the truck in 1970 and was used on their ranch in Elbert, Colorado.  When they bought the truck, they had Dodge install the Braden winch.  The truck was originally a 318 V8 but was replaced with a big block 400 in the 80's.  The truck had been sitting for quite a few years before I purchased it.  I put in a new starter and the engine runs very good; does not smoke and holds great oil pressure ( 80 psi).  Obviously, it will need tune-up parts, gas tank and lines flushed.  The engine has an old school Offenhauser intake manifold and Holley 4-barrel carb.  Brakes and hydraulic clutch will need work (I can bleed brakes and clutch to move the truck).  Unfortunately, when the big block 400 was put in the truck, they did not put the pto drive shaft for the winch back on the truck and was miss-placed a few years later and was lost.  I do have the drive unit that mounts to the transfer case but no pto shaft and no lever to engage the drive unit (see pics).  The pto drive shaft can be made along with the lever.  This Power Wagon has the usual cab rust that these trucks have.  The rockers, floor boards and three of the cab mounts (driver's side, rear cab mount is good and solid) have rust - nothing to extreme.  The fenders, doors, cowl, firewall, radiator support and frame rails are all rust free.  For the trucks age the body is nice and straight.  The only sizable damage is the passenger fender and is definitely repairable.  All glass is remarkably in very good condition for its age.  This truck had an old flatbed on it that I took off and scrapped.  So as you can see in the pics, there is no bed.  There are still plenty of 2-wheel drive D100's and D200's parts trucks out there, and a bed can be obtained.  This is a very good foundation for a nice restoration project on a truck that is getting very hard to find.  I hate to sell this truck, but I have to finish another project that is close to completion.  I will be answering any emails in the evening.  I reserve the right to end the auction at any time.  Please don't ask what the reserve is; it is very reasonable.  If you like the truck, please just bid.  I will accept Pay Pal only if the buyer agrees to pay the Pay Pal fees; otherwise cash on pickup.  $200. deposit due within 48-hours after end of auction.  Thanks for looking.

Junkyard 1983 Dodge Rampage has Franco-American roots

Mon, Jun 20 2016

Lee Iacocca and the K-Cars get most of the credit for saving Chrysler after the company's 1979 bailout by the US government, but the success of the Simca-derived Omnirizon platform was a large, if overlooked, component of Chrysler's early-1980s resurgence. The Dodge Omni and Plymouth Horizon were sold in the United States for the 1978 through 1990 model years, and variants included the 1983-1987 Dodge Charger and the Rampage, this well-worn example of which I spotted in a Denver self-service wrecking yard last week. The early Omnirizons came with a Volkswagen-sourced 1.7-liter engine, but all of the Rampage pickups (and their near-identical Plymouth Scamp siblings) came from the factory with a 2.2-liter K-Car engine making 96 horses. This truck has a 4-speed manual transmission, which would have made it reasonably quick by Malaise Era standards. This one had plenty of body filler and rust, even before the crash that sent it on that final tow-truck ride to this place, so it wouldn't have been worth restoring. Still, we can hope that some of its parts will live on in other L-body trucks. The mad genius of killing the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200

Thu, Jan 28 2016

Sergio Marchionne isn't crazy. At least not with respect to the recent announcement that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will cease production of the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200. Instead of crazy I'd call this CEO ruthlessly pragmatic, and perhaps short-sighted. The latest revisions to FCA's most recent five-year plan tell some truths about the company's finances. In other words, it can't afford to build mainstream sedans. With only 87,392 units sold in 2015, the Dart is an also-ran in the segment. The axe falls easily there - Chrysler hasn't had a compact-car hit since the second-generation Neon. The 200 isn't so cut and dried: Last year sales increased 52 percent, and the 177,889 total for 2015 is more than those for the Subaru Legacy and Kia Optima. But looking at the overall FCA picture the Chrysler 200 has to go, at least from a short-term perspective. The vehicles that make big money – Ram trucks; Jeep's Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, and Wrangler – can't be made fast enough. FCA can't afford to idle the 200's Sterling Heights, MI, assembly plant to cut back on inventory when other plants are running flat out. It seems crazy to throw away 265,000 sales, but FCA is leaving money on the table by not building more profitable vehicles. The Wirecutter's Senior Autos Editor (and former Autoblogger) John Neff agrees. "As bold as it looks from the outside, he's really making a safe bet that their money is better spent on designing better and building more crossovers and trucks. He's probably right about that." But according to Jessica Caldwell, Executive Director of Strategic Analytics at Edmunds, "FCA's strategy of eliminating the Dart and 200 might be short-sighted if gas prices were to rise and Americans, once again, flocked to small vehicles. FCA must have plans to expand the lineup of small SUVs and position them as small-car alternatives in terms of price and fuel efficiency for this strategy to make sense." FCA's latest announcement focuses mainly on the profitable brands and nameplates. There's hardly a mention of Chrysler, Dodge, or Fiat. And future planning is where the plot holes appear. This realignment cuts dead weight from the product portfolio, but FCA's latest announcement focuses mainly on the profitable brands and nameplates. There's hardly a mention of Chrysler, Dodge, or Fiat. So what's Sergio up to? David Sullivan of AutoPacific thinks Marchionne is still looking for another CEO to hug.

FCA's UAW workers to get $8,010 profit-sharing payout

Wed, Mar 3 2021

UAW workers at FCA will soon be receiving $8,010 checks, which represent profit-sharing based on the company's 2020 performance. Although FCA's profit margins in 2020 were slimmer than the year prior, the union-employee payouts are slightly larger, due to a change in the formula that was negotiated in 2019 and has now gone into effect. Employees are now paid $900 for every 1% of profit margin FCA achieves in its North American operations. For 2020, the company enjoyed an 8.9% profit margin, and although that was down slightly from 9.1% in 2019, the checks are larger than last year's $7,280 payout. Still, FCA employees didn't fare quite as well as their counterparts at GM, who stand to receive profit-sharing checks of up to $9,000. GM workers did even better last year, netting $10,000. UAW workers at Ford had less to celebrate. They'll receive $3,525, based on the company's 2020 performance. That's a steep drop from last year's $6,600. FCA earned $6.472 billion in North America in 2020. The company is expecting an improved financial performance in 2021, as it's expected to avoid another coronavirus-related shutdown. It's also expected to benefit from the launch of the three-row Grand Cherokee L, as well as the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, all of which are high-margin products.
