Model Overview
Two different powertrains are available on the Journey for 2010, and both offer a distinct choice of price and fuel efficiency versus power and refinement. Three different trim levels are available: SE, SXT and R/T. The base SE comes with a 173-horsepower, 2.4L 4-cylinder engine and 4-speed automatic transmission; the well-equipped SXT and sporty, top-of-the-line R/T models come with a 235-horsepower, 3.5L V6 engine and 6-speed automatic with AutoStick, which allows manual gear selection if desired. With the 4-cylinder engine, the Journey is rated at 19 mpg city, 25 mpg highway in the EPA fuel economy cycle. All Journey models have standard front-wheel drive, but an all-wheel drive system is available on SXT and R/T. The system sends most power to the front wheels except when power is needed at the back wheels for traction. Between 25 and 65 mph, some power is also sent to the rear wheels to enhance handling and stability. The Journey's versatile interior is configured so as to carry up to seven people plus cargo or a combination thereof. Five-passenger seating is standard on all models, with the 3-row, 7-passenger layout available on upmarket SXT and R/T models. In the third row, which is elevated slightly above the level of the first and second row, Dodge says that the Journey allows two inches more head room than its leading competitors, and the back two rows can be folded down to allow a huge cargo floor. The Journey's back doors open 90 degrees to allow easy entry and loading access, and the second-row seat has a child-seat-friendly feature that allows it to slide forward or rearward a total of 4.7 inches to bring children closer or to allow more legroom for adults. Access is made even easier through the Dodge's Tilt 'n Slide feature on third-row models, which allows the second row to tilt upward and slide forward.A clever, optional Flip 'n Stow in-seat storage system under the front passenger seat includes a fold-down front passenger seat and has enough space to store a planner or other small items with the seat down in place, and two other in-floor bins located just behind the front seats can hold a dozen 12-ounce beverage cans out of sight. The bins have latched lids and removable liners. Third-row models feature yet another similar covered compartment behind the rearmost seats. The Journey's car-like underpinnings include a 4-wheel independent suspension with a multi-link rear suspension layout for good handling and a smooth ride. Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with hydraulic boost are standard across the model line, along with an electronic stability control that includes a Trailer Sway Control mode to help prevent the loss of stability while towing. Front seat-mounted side airbags are standard, along with supplemental side-curtain bags that provide head protection to all three rows. The 2010 Journey has earned the highest possible rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.Noteworthy options include a UConnect hands-free calling system, a rechargeable flashlight, 3-zone climate control, a sunroof, a trailer-tow package, the Parkview backup camera, and an entertainment package that includes a navigation system, 9-inch second-row video entertainment screen, wireless headphones, 368-watt audio, and six speakers with a subwoofer.

Dodge Journey to get a performance-focused replacement in 2022?

Mon, Nov 25 2019

The Dodge Journey is neither fast nor agile, but it has proved a hard-to-hit target for everyone trying to figure out what the next generation will hold, including Fiat Chrysler. In 2014, the automaker's five-year plan for Dodge included an all-new Journey in 2016, and a hotted-up SRT version of the crossover come 2017. In 2016, "supplier sources" told Automotive News a new Journey on rear-drive Alfa Romeo's Giorgio platform would show for the 2019 model year, and production would be moved from Mexico to Italy, Those prognostications came to naught, the 11-year-old Journey riding on its Mitsubishi-based platform into 2020 with fewer options. Now Mopar Insiders says the next-gen Journey could come in 2022 as an early 2023 model, still on the Giorgio platform and given a performance-focused brief. According to MI, the new Journey — and it's not clear if the name will be retained — comes in strict two-row, five-seater guise. It "will be around the size of the Stelvio," the Alfa Romeo coming in at 184.5 inches. Previous reports have said the Journey will be shorter than the current 192.4-inch model, but longer than the Stelvio. The Dodge Charger is said to donate major styling cues, and there will supposedly be a Scat Pack trim. Under the hood, the entry-level engine will be the same GME 2.0-liter four-cylinder in that makes 276 horsepower and 306 pound-feet of torque in the Stelvio. MI believes a Hemi V8 will make the options list, hence the Scat Pack. Previously, other outlets have figured a turbo V6 like that in the Alfa Quadrifoglio models will stand in as the upgrade, although the model is "being developed with V8s in mind." Any engine choice is expected to be paired with an eight-speed transmission. All of those options far outdo the 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 172 hp and 165 lb-ft, shifting through a four-speed automatic, which is the only powertrain possible for the 2020 Journey. The platform switch and the change to rear-drive will greatly enhance on-road manners and performance, but MI believes an all-wheel-drive option should make the transition. If Journey production moves to Italy from Mexico, Fiat Chrysler will open up capacity in North America for big-profit crossovers and trucks, and get more from its underutilized European operations. Rumor says the Journey would roll down the same lines as the Stelvio in the Cassino Assembly Plant; the crossover is still sold in Europe and other markets as the Fiat Freemont.

Dodge Hellcat Widebody delivers Christmas tree at 174 mph

Thu, Dec 21 2017

The holidays are here, and so last-minute shoppers are going to be in a serious rush to get all the items they need, especially Christmas shoppers that haven't even put up a tree yet. Those seriously late folks may want to invest in a Challenger Hellcat because apparently they can go an incredible 174 mph with a Christmas tree strapped to the roof. This was discovered by the folks at Hennessey. They got a Hellcat Widebody from Dodge for the little experiment, along with a suction cup mount roof rack from SeaSucker and a real Christmas tree from Lowe's. Then it was off to the Continental Tire test track in Texas to see how fast it could go, which, as mentioned was 174 mph. As you'll see in the video, it takes quite a bit of road to move up from 170 to 174 mph. It's impressive that the tree and roof rack don't seem to budge. And it's all capped off with a huge smokey burnout to the sound of V8 rumble and supercharger whine. It's a fun way to get into the holiday spirit. And we'll look forward to next year when maybe Dodge will give Hennessey a Demon to try out. Related Video:

Fiat Chrysler recalls 4.8 million U.S. vehicles for cruise control defect

Fri, May 25 2018

WASHINGTON - Fiat Chrysler said on Friday it is recalling 4.8 million U.S. vehicles over a defect that could prevent drivers from deactivating cruise control and warned owners not to use the function until they get software upgrades. The Italian-American automaker said no injuries or crashes are related to the large recall campaign but said it had one report of a driver of a 2017 Dodge Journey rental car unable to deactivate the cruise control. Fiat Chrysler, which in 2015 was hit with penalties from U.S. regulators totaling $175 million for safety lapses, did not say how much the recalls would cost. The recall addresses what Fiat Chrysler called an "extremely rare" series of events that could lead to drivers being unable to cancel cruise control. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Friday it "strongly encourages vehicle owners to follow a warning" to stop using cruise control on the recalled vehicles until repaired. NHTSA said drivers could overpower the system by forcefully applying the brakes until the vehicle stopped. Fiat Chrysler also said the vehicle could be stopped by shifting into neutral and braking. Fiat Chrysler shares fell more than 2 percent in premarket trading in New York on the recall. Fiat Chrysler noted that at times cruise control systems automatically initiate acceleration to help vehicles maintain driver-selected speeds, including when going up an incline. If an acceleration occurs simultaneously with a short-circuit in a specific electrical network, a driver could be unable to deactivate the function. Fiat Chrysler said vehicles may be placed in park once stopped, at which point cruise-control is canceled. The recall involves a group of gasoline-powered vehicles with automatic transmissions from various model years built from 2014 through the 2019 model year. Most of the vehicles being recalled cover the 2014-2018 model years. Among the vehicles being recalled are the Chrysler 200, Chrysler 300, Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger, Dodge Journey, Dodge Durango, Jeep Cherokee, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler and Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks and Ram 3500/4500/5500 cab chassis trucks. Fiat Chrysler made the announcement going into the busy Memorial Day weekend, which traditionally kicks off the summer driving season.
