This past June I spent an excellent day hanging out with Joey Ruiter, driving and discussing his Reboot Buggy project. Before heading home, I let him know that he was more than welcome to keep me abreast of whichever new automotive project he'd get into. You can never have too many car designers and one-off fabricators in your Rolodex, right? Ruiter recently made good with the follow-up, emailing me with details on this Dodge Challenger A/T Untamed Concept that pushes a lot of hot buttons for the muscle car and off-roading enthusiasts. This all-terrain Mopar is a lot more than a Challenger body dropped on a truck chassis, too. A materialized version of the A/T would included a completely new, long-travel suspension, skid plates, body armor and rock sliders, and obviously flared fenders to help accommodate a hellacious set of off-road-ready tires. The dramatically revised underpinnings would be topped with a slick graphics package and a killer lower light bar, all making the A/T look quite cohesive in its own, radical way. And the result would be a car no longer limited to mere road-driving.
One of the teaser trailers for the eagerly anticipated Dodge Challenger Demon featured a big crate full of goodies for the car. As with the car, though, Dodge was a bit coy about what was inside, simply saying there were 18 items, consisting of tools and parts. Now we know what tools the car gets, and they're some very nice Snap-On pieces. All of the tools and accessories are branded with the Demon logo. And the tools included should be perfect for easy tire changes at the track. Specifically, the tools include a hydraulic jack, cordless impact wrench with charger, torque wrench, and a tire pressure gauge. There's also a fender cover to protect the paint when working under the hood, and a nice carrying bag with the Demon emblem on the side. And, naturally, all of the tools are limited-edition units made specifically to accompany the Demon. If you want to do anything more involved than wheel swaps, you'll need to supply a few tools of your own. But this should be good for the weekend drag racer or autocross driver who wants to drive down to the course on street tires, then throw on the sticky rubber at the track. Also, as you may have noted, these tools only constitute six items in Dodge's count, leaving 12 others that must be car parts. We know that among the parts are some factory Demon wheels, and items that Dodge describes as "Direct Connection Performance Parts" and the "Demon Track Pack System." Details on these remain scarce, but they will probably be revealed closer to the car's debut date of April 11. Related Video:
It was the Ford Mustang that kicked off the retro-styled muscle car renaissance back in 2005, but it was the Dodge Challenger that served as the movement's poster child, with its unabashedly retro looks. Over the years, though, as the Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro were freshened and upgraded, the look of the big Dodge has remained largely consistent since its 2008 debut. For 2015, the Challenger has received a big freshening, boasting strongly revised front and rear ends and (finally, finally, finally) a redesigned interior. Let's talk about that new cabin first. It's basically been plucked directly from the redesigned Charger, and boasts the same seven-inch IP display. The center stack's miserable, last-gen display has been replaced by an expansive, 8.4-inch UConnect system. Material quality should see a solid boost with the new cabin, as well. The exterior, meanwhile, sees a revised front fascia with LED halo lights, as well as new grille inserts. A functional shaker hood scoop is a must-have extra on the V8 models, while the back of the car is highlighted by a new set of LED taillights that don't use the "Racetrack" design of Dodge's other models.
