This is a 1954 Dodge Coronet sedan with the 241 Hemi V8, Powerflite 2 speed automatic transmission, power steering, deluxe 8 tube radio (works), optional clock (works sometimes), exterior period correct sun-visor (not the Fulton), vent window shades, door handle guards, fender skirts, and true dual exhausts.  We added some chrome accessories from the top-of-the-line Royal series, such as the fender spears and medallions on the c-pillars.  I have the owners manual, shop manual and options brochure from the factory.  Everything on the car is correct for the period, and was available on the Coronet as optional equipment in 1954.  Dad purchased the car about 5 years ago from a private owner in Miami.  I have 2 videos on u tube - search for 1954 Dodge Hemi.  We are a private family, and will describe this car as honestly as possible.  We are not looking to "hurt" anyone, and don't want to get "hurt" either.

This was my dad's car, and his last restoration project.  I inherited it when he passed away March 2012.  The car has been garaged, and very rarely driven.  The tires are Coker wide whites and like new.  The manual brakes work fine, and the power steering is great.  The car has a nice smooth ride - shocks replaced about 2 years ago.  He tried to keep it as original as possible.  It still has the 6 volt positive ground system.  The battery is relatively new and is the largest 6 volt that would fit - I think its 975 amps.  We have won some plaques at local shows.  The car shows very nicely and gets a lot of attention.  It was originally a kind of boring maroon color, but dad had it painted red with a white top (more 50's festive).  The original chrome looks great.

Although the car looks and sounds very nice, it is NOT perfect.  There are some issues that need attention, but I am not familiar with classic car restoration although I helped dad whenever I could.  Below is an honest description.

Engine:  The engine has never been opened up and has less than 50,000 original miles.  Whisper quiet when idling, with no valve knock or noise.  Does not leak or burn any oil, and runs cool. The car had been sitting over a year, and I noticed some hesitation when I drove her last night.  I put fresh gas and I was on the highway at about 55-60 mph and noticed that she hesitates, although maintains speed.  Tune-up maybe?  The car idles fine though, and all gauges work.  The generator was rebuilt and synchronized with the voltage regulator.

Transmission
:  The transmission was rebuilt a couple years ago, and has been driven about 100 miles since.  After driving her 30 miles each way to a show last night (won a plaque), I noticed there is a transmission leak.  While stopped at a light, a little smoke puffed from the passenger side.  When I parked in the garage, I saw transmission fluid dripping from near the filler tube.  It's not coming from the tube though; just in front of it.  The drip looks like it splatters onto the exhaust pipe, causing some smoke.  The transmission pan doesn't leak.  I'm not sure if the transmission was overfilled, but it does leak transmission fluid, especially after driving.  For this reason only, I would NOT recommend driving the car long distances.  I noticed some water stains on the radiator, so the radiator may have a leak.

Steering:  The power steering is effortless and the front end seems tight.  The tires are Coker wide white walls and like new.  The rear passenger tire gets low after sitting a while though.

Interior:  The complete interior was redone, including the headliner, sun visors, door panels and carpet.  The seats have vintage seat covers on them, and they look very nice and period correct.  I saved the 1950s box they were in.  Not sure what's under the covers though.  Extra sound deadening pads and insulation were glued above the headliner, under the carpet, and inside the doors.  The weather strips were replaced around the doors and window channels.  The car does not rattle at all, and actually rides very quietly inside.

Glass:  All glass is original and clear, except for the front passenger.  The original window was cracked, and when dad tried putting in the replacement, he cracked it too.  So the front passenger side window is cracked.  I think he paid $60 for it, so it's a cheap fix, but I don't know how to do it.

Paint:  The car shows nicely, but there are some minor paint chips/scratches that could be addressed.  Overall, she looks very presentable.  Enough to win awards.

Feel free to ask questions.  I'm sure these are easy repairs for someone with the knowledge and expertise working on these cars.  Inspections are welcome PRIOR to auction end.  There is a modest reserve on the car, very fair for the condition and rarity of the car.  Shipping is buyer's responsibility, and there is no warranty.  I will assist as much as possible in coordinating shipping.  The car can be driven locally for shipping purposes.  We will accept cash or money order/certified check.  Good luck and happy bidding.

Chop the top of your new Dodge Viper for $35,000

Mon, 21 Jul 2014

We have good news, and we have bad news. First, the good: It's now possible to get a brand-new Dodge Viper roadster, which is nice, considering we're in the dead of summer and many of us like wind-in-the-hair motoring. Now, the bad: This is not a factory option from the automaker, instead coming courtesy of an aftermarket company called Prefix Performance, and that means it's going to cost you some serious coin.
Called Medusa, this drop-top Viper was created without the knowledge or consent of Dodge, but that's probably fine because Prefix works with the automaker already for the final preparation of the American supercar, including paint. According to the company, the current, fifth-gen Viper was built with a convertible version in mind, so no chassis strengthening is required. From the looks of the somewhat grainy photos available, the conversion appears of very high quality.
Want one? Well, that means you're going to need to procure a Viper - Prefix has 10 units ready for transformation as it stands - and that's going to cost at the very least $102,485. Then, you'll need to write a check for an additional $35,000 for Prefix to surgically remove the car's roof. Thing is, for that kind of cash, a prospective owner could buy, among other very nice options, a Viper hardtop and a loaded Miata, or a Corvette Stingray convertible and several pockets full of change. Or, perhaps a new Viper hardtop and a used, first-gen Viper convertible?

Stellantis reveals STLA Large platform with EV and ICE support

Fri, Jan 19 2024

Hot on the heels of a Jeep Wagoneer S teaser and photos of the prototype next-generation Dodge Charger (or Challenger), comes a reveal and details of what will likely underpin both of them: the STLA Large platform. It's one of multiple Stellantis flexible architectures that will be the basis of its upcoming electric cars, and apparently internal combustion ones, too. Stellantis says the STLA Large platform will be for D- and E-segment cars, crossovers and SUVs. In other words, it will be for midsize and large vehicles. For reference, lengths supported will be from 187.6 to 201.8 inches, and width will range from 74.7 to 79.9 inches. It will be highly flexible, too, with Stellantis claiming significant amounts of adjustability in overhangs, wheelbase, suspension placement and powertrain arrangement. The powertrain flexibility is quite impressive. Front-, rear- and all-wheel-drive layouts will be supported. Single- and dual-motor layouts will be on offer. Internal combustion will be available, too, either on its own or as a hybrid. Apparently engines can be fitted either longitudinally or transversely, too. Battery packs with between 85 and 118 kWh of capacity will be offered, with Stellantis claiming that sedan-style vehicles could have a range of up to 500 miles. The packs will also be available in 400- and 800-volt designs. Stellantis noted also that the platform can "easily accept future energy storage technologies when they reach production readiness." This seems to hint that the company is looking at different battery chemistries and maybe even solid-state batteries that could be added more easily in the future. Furthermore, the platform is designed to handle impressive output. Stellantis says that some models on the platform will have 0-to-62 mph times in the 2-second range. Limited-slip differentials for improved power delivery and wheel-end disconnects for reduced mechanical drag are also on the table for this platform. All of these details fit well with the information previously given for the concept Dodge Charger Daytona Banshee and Jeep Wagoneer S. The former was previewed with both battery voltage architectures and a wide range of electric powertrains with between 456 and 670 horsepower depending on specification and upgrades. And that's just for the 400-volt system; the 800-volt option wasn't detailed. We've also seen photos of the Charger chassis seemingly with provisions for gas engines, likely versions of the Hurricane I6.

2019 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is getting a facelift

Tue, May 8 2018

The Challenger Hellcat won't be the only Mopar muscle car getting an update for the new model year. One of our spy photographers caught an updated 2019 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat testing near the SRT office. It appears that the car will continue on mostly unchanged, since everything behind the fenders is uncovered and unchanged. But the fascia must be getting some noteworthy changes considering how well it's hidden. And it's really, really well-hidden. It's extremely difficult to see through this covering. Whatever changes have been made still aren't going to be massive. It looks like the basics remain the same, including the large center grille in the bumper flanked by two outboard inlets that lack fog lights. The grille appears to still connect with the headlights, and the grille is pinched in the middle. Odds are, the front fascia is the only major difference on the 2019 Charger Hellcat, just as the twin-scoop hood on the Challenger Hellcat is the only major difference on that model. Under the hood will likely be the same 707-horsepower supercharged V8. This Charger prototype also sports the same Brembo brakes as the current model. The full reveal will probably come this summer along with the Challenger. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.
