This included going .010 over now it is 580 CI new diamond pistons, new valve guides, new Manley polished nextek valve springs, new comp roller lifters and more. Motor has always been well cared for and never hurt. Rev-limiter was always set at 7,000 In my 4100 LBS Charger, leaving the line at 1700 RPM on 10 DOT tires & mufflers would run 9.50s @ 149 MPH THIS IS A RUSH SITTING AT THE STARTING LINE WITH THE CLUTCH IN AND 4SPD SHIFTER IN YOUR HAND KNOWING YOUR ABOUT TO DROP THE CLUTCH ON A 1000+HP MOTOR!!!!!!!!! Some basics on the motor; originally started out as a custom built 572 using a Indy Maxx aluminum block and heads. Had to go .010 over when freshened up. The heads are fully ported. Small solid roller cam from cam motion. Approx 690 lift. Callies crank. Eagle rods with upgraded bolts. Milodon single line pick up. Hampton 8-71 Super Charger. 950 HP Holley's. MSD distributor. Fri, Aug 10 2018On this week's Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Senior Editor Alex Kierstein and Green Editor John Snyder. They discuss driving the 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt and the (deep breath) 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody. They also recap this week's crazy Elon Musk news, and talk about the car brands they'd like to resurrect in the U.S. As always, they then help a listener pick a new car in the "Spend My Money" segment of the podcast.Autoblog Podcast #549 Get The Podcast iTunes – Subscribe to the Autoblog Podcast in iTunes RSS – Add the Autoblog Podcast feed to your RSS aggregator MP3 – Download the MP3 directly Rundown Cars we've been driving: 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt and 2019 Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye Elon Musk might privatize Tesla Brands we want back Spend My Money Feedback Email – Podcast@Autoblog.com Review the show on iTunes Green Podcasts Dodge Ford Tesla Car Buying Used Car Buying Coupe Electric Performance bullitt dodge challenger srt hellcat redeye
Junkyard Gem: 1964 Dodge Dart station wagon
Fri, Nov 30 2018The Chrysler A Platform, built from the 1960 through 1976 model years for the North American market (and for a few years beyond that in Australia and Latin America), was one of Chrysler's greatest hits, if not the greatest hit. We know these cars best as the 1963-1976 Dodge Dart and the 1960-1976 Plymouth Valiant, and they established a reputation for reliability matched only by the likes of the Mercedes-Benz W123 diesel. I still see many of these cars during my junkyard wanderings, but A-Body wagons have become very rare. Here's a tattered '64 Dart wagon that I spotted in a self-service wrecking yard in San Jose, California. 1964 was the first model year for factory-installed V8 engines in the Dart and Valiant (and the Valiant's sporty sibling, the Barracuda), and the 273-cubic-inch pushrod V8 was a sturdy powerplant indeed. The slant-6 engine, though less powerful, went into most of these cars, and for good reason: It was harder to kill than all the world's cockroaches and rats put together. This car would have come with a 170- or 225-cubic-inch version of the slant-6, optimistically rated at either 101 or 145 gross horsepower (probably about 55 horses at the wheels), but I didn't feel like scraping sludge off casting numbers to see if it's on its first or 11th engine. In any case, slant-6 Darts were on the pokey side but would get you to your destination every time. This one has a lot of rust for a California car (in New Hampshire or Wisconsin, it would be considered pretty solid) and the interior is more or less obliterated, so even dedicated station-wagon lovers wouldn't have been motivated to take it on as a restoration project. So another early Dart is poised to be stuffed into The Crusher, for reasons that make good economic sense. This still makes us sad, though. This content is hosted by a third party. Junkyard Gem: 2005 Dodge Neon AAR
Sun, Oct 20 2019Chrysler sold the Neon in North America for the 1995 through 2005 model years, with respectable sales for most of that period. The Neon had decent power for the price, and could be very quick on a road course in the hands of a good driver. With so many made, the Neon came to have a strong aftermarket for performance and customizing components, and many owners opted to spruce up their cars for added coolness. Here's a last-year-of-production Dodge Neon SXT with some SRT-4 body components and aftermarket "AAR" stripes, spotted in a self-service yard in Fargo, N.D. Chrysler sold AAR-badged Plymouth 'Cudas in 1970, inspired by Dan Gurney's All American Racers team in SCCA racing, and the stripes on those cars looked great. However, no factory-made AAR Neons ever came off the assembly line, so the owner of this car applied these aftermarket stripes. The VIN tells me it's an ordinary Neon SXT. The SRT-4 hood looks mean. While this car does have a proper manual transmission, its power came from a distinctly non-SRT naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter 16-valve engine. With 132 horses, this car would have been reasonably quick. Brake calipers look better with the application of a little spray paint. Someone loved this car very much, so it made me sad to see it among all the rust victims of Fargo. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences.
