This 1971 Dodge Challenger is a #2 show car with numbers matching engine, transmission & chassis. For comparison, a #1 show car is a museum piece that is not driven but rather trailered to concourse shows. This beautiful Challenger is one step down from a #1 concourse museum show car - a real fast beauty that you can drive & take to car shows. It's always a crowd favorite. This classic Mopar muscle show car is the proud recipient of countless car show awards including best of show, best paint, best engine, best interior, best muscle car, etc. This is a solid California car with all original body panels & only minor metal replacement needed during the restoration near the rear wheels & below the rear windshield.  Front windshield has been replaced & all other glass is good. This Mopar muscle street machine is more of a restomod than anything, despite the matching numbers. Countless performance upgrades make this 318/323cid LA smallblock engine, which was bored .030" over during the rebuild, a force to be reckoned with on the street with more horsepower than even the 440 six pack Mopars (395HP) that came from the factory back in the day. This smallblock engine puts out a stout 400HP & has excellent 3.55 sure grip street gears to get all that power to the pavement when you want it most. The engine has nearly double the power that it came with from the factory. Under the hood is pure eye candy with all the power & authority to back it up. With DOT BFGoodrich street legal slicks this car has run consistent 13.6 second quarter mile times at over 102 mph at the local drag strip & I have the time slips to back it up. The DOT slicks are no longer on the car but have been replaced with new BFGoodrich radial TA's, installed on genuine new Cragar-SS 7"X15" chrome wheels. The engine is very responsive & still ultra-fresh with only 5000 miles since the meticulous rebuild (See engine performance upgrade specs below). Every circuit of the fuel curve in this engine has been mapped with a computer & tuned to just the right specs for the most power when it's needed & good fuel economy at idle or when you're cruising. The interior is custom restored with all the original stock furniture, panels & controls with the addition of a nice 200W Pioneer CD player stereo. The only items not restored inside are the dashboard, seatbelts & dimmer switch. The interior dimmer switch for the dome light does not work properly. This is a very easy fix. Everything else inside was either replaced or restored. Inside there is a new headliner, new carpet, new seat foam & custom two tone vinyl seat covers with cloth inserts, new custom cloth & vinyl upholstery on the stock door panels, new upholstery on all interior panels, sun visors, rear interior deck, custom floor mats, & new burgundy paint on all the metal interior molding. The center console has also been repainted with burgundy vinyl paint & the chrome/woodgrain console insert was covered in the same burgundy pearl paint to match the outside of the car. The outside is PPG Burgundy Berry Pearl base-clear paint in excellent condition with only very minor blems & a few tiny nicks. This car is a driver, not a trailer queen, so it’s got some character road dust underneath & some tiny nicks on the lower rear quarters from doing burnouts at the drag strip. Brakes, master cylinder, brake lines, BFG TA/Radial tires, water pump, fuel pump & steering box are all new or rebuilt to the highest specs. A new heater core comes with the car but does not yet need replaced. The trunk has been painted, undercoated & detailed moderately (Nothin fancy in the trunk). All chrome has been re-chromed & the front grille is custom painted with great attention to detail & enough modifications to make it unique. The drivetrain specifications & performance upgrade details are listed below. See list below for all the performance upgrades throughout the car. Please contact me if you would like more details or to answer any questions you might have. I can also send more pictures if necessary, but please be specific about which items you want pictures of.

If you consider this model Challenger (318 2door hardtop) on the NADA classic car website & add in the performance upgrade of a 440 magnum engine (390hp) which is comparable in power to the existing 318/323 engine in this car, you will have a good idea of the value of this Challenger, with the added bonus of the facts that my car has more horsepower (400hp), the original numbers matching engine, more custom details, more performance upgrades & a much lighter front end weight due to the original lightweight smallblock engine with Edelbrock Aluminum heads, instead of the excess weight of a big-block non-matching boat-anchor transplant. This car is one stellar performance package by comparison to anything else in it's class - definitely the most bang for your buck. Unless of course you'd rather have that boat anchor transplant that can't get out of it's own way. This numbers matching original engine can literally scream north of 6000 rpm without so much as a hiccup & can make any factory big-block look sad by comparison. With that said, there is a rev limiter with various rpm chips for the MSD ignition box to keep your enthusiastic right foot in check & protect those Clevite bearings from becoming another statistic. Pure driving pleasure!

2017 Dodge Durango GT Brass Monkey: A funky winter drive

Fri, Mar 24 2017

The 2017 Dodge Durango is one of our favorite sport utility vehicles. It has power and style and it stands out in a segment that is filled with vanilla-flavored people haulers. We recently had a Durango GT outfitted in Brass Monkey trim – highlighted by its 20-inch burnished bronze aluminum wheels - and took to the back roads of Michigan for an extended drive. The snow was flying. The temperatures dropped. It was muddy. The unpaved roads, pocked and rutted, were jarring, even though the forested setting was serene. The Durango had no trouble with any of it. Watch our video review for the complete experience.

Stellantis expects to hit emissions target without Tesla's help

Tue, May 4 2021

Franco-Italian carmaker Stellantis expects to achieve its European carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions targets this year without environmental credits bought from Tesla, its CEO said in an interview published on Tuesday. Stellantis was formed through the merger of France's PSA and Italy's FCA, which spent about 2 billion euros ($2.40 billion) to buy European and U.S. CO2 credits from electric vehicle maker Tesla over the 2019-2021 period. "With the electrical technology that PSA brought to Stellantis, we will autonomously meet carbon dioxide emission regulations as early as this year," Stellantis boss Carlos Tavares said in the interview with French weekly Le Point. "Thus, we will not need to call on European CO2 credits and FCA will no longer have to pool with Tesla or anyone." California-based Tesla earns credits for exceeding emissions and fuel economy standards and sells them to other automakers that fall short. European regulations require all car manufacturers to reduce CO2 emissions for private vehicles to an average of 95 grams per kilometer this year. A Stellantis spokesman said the company is in discussions with Tesla about the financial implications of the decision to stop the pooling agreement. "As a result of the combination of Groupe PSA and FCA, Stellantis will be in a position to achieve CO2 targets in Europe for 2021 without open passenger car pooling arrangements with other automakers," he added. Tesla's sales of environmental credits to rival automakers helped it to announce slightly better than expected first-quarter revenue this week. The next tightening of European regulations will soon be the subject of proposals from the European Commission. The 2030 target could be lowered to less than 43 grams/km. The Dodge Demon isn't the only way to a 10-second quarter mile

Tue, Jul 25 2017

The Demon's rear tires smoke, the front tires lift – and in under ten seconds (after having spent $85,000) you've covered a quarter mile. In short, we fully get the attention shown Dodge's SRT Demonstrator. With disruption the operative word of the times, it's good to see a representative of the movement coming from Detroit. The SRT Demon delivers disruption in spades. There is, however, a viable alternative Β– and it doesn't require getting on the list at your Dodge dealer. If you want to do 0-60 in under three seconds or the quarter mile in around 10, the folks at Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha Β– with any of their one-liter superbikes Β– have you covered. The gestation of what we now know as the superbike came roughly a decade after the debut of the muscle car. It was in the early '70s, as emission and safety regulations Β– along with rising insurance premiums Β– decimated the ranks of Detroit's fastest that motorcycle makers found their magical, almost mystical momentum. Honda's CB750 four was arguably the first, followed soon by Kawasaki's Mach III and Z-1. After that, it was Katie-bar-the-door, with more horsepower offered by Japanese OEMs until, invariably, insurance premiums went higher and, during the last recession, 20-somethings couldn't get affordable loans or insurance. Today, Japan's Big Four are once again engaged in a horsepower war, fueled by the rising interest in MotoGP, along with the rising profits available when selling a $20,000 motorcycle. And if that $20,000 - $10K per wheel Β– seems high, simple math tells you it's less than half of what you'll spend per corner if buying Dodge's Demon. The specs tell the tale. The Demon, fattened by both its flared fenders and a platform dating from the George Bush administration, supports its 4,200+ pounds on a wheelbase of 116 inches. That's in contrast to Suzuki's GSX-R1000 Β– redesigned for 2017 Β– which puts its 443 pounds atop a wheelbase of just 56 inches. To maximize its Hemi-supplied 800+ horsepower, Dodge diverts the air conditioning from the Demon's interior to the engine, which makes racing on a summer evening (you guessed it) devilishly hot. On Suzuki's GSX-R1000 Β– or similarly-equipped superbikes Β– almost all of the air at 100+ miles per hour is directed at you. To further underscore the differences, know that the GSX-R1000 and its like-minded competition can turn a quick corner, while the Demon is hard-pressed to execute a U-turn at the end of a quarter-mile straightaway.
