Originally 318 car.  Now has rebuilt 440 and rebuilt 727TF transmission.  This is not a gunked up junkyard smog motor.  It came out of a 1967 Imperial with stock 10.10 to 1 compression and forged crank. This 440 has been completely rebuilt and rotating assembly balanced with .040 over forged pistons, reconditioned rods, Mopar Performance Purple Camshaft Kit, valves, guides, valve springs, hardened pushrods, adjustable rocker arms, high volume oil pump with new pickup, clevite bearings, roller timing chain, Mopar Performance oil pump drive shaft and distributor gear, Mallory Unilite ignition and wires, TCI SFI 29.1 approved flex plate, TCI Torque converter, Holley 4bbl carb (not new but rebuilt) and headers.  The car has never been driven with the new engine and trans but it gets started and run through the gears on jack stands every 30 days or so and the oil and filter are changed every 8 months.

The car has had the following sheet metal replaced: floors, trunk pan, front valance, rear valance and rear window to deck lid panel.  The original driver's door had a dent and body filler in it so it's been replaced by a good used one.  The original door is fixable and goes with the car.  The floors beneath the rear seats still need repaired as seen in the pics.  The firewall has a rust hole in it too.  Front drum brakes have been changed to disk with all new ball joints and bushings.  The original drum assemblies (spindles, control arms, etc) go with the car as well. The driver's side fender is rusted though at the bottom behind the front wheel, the passenger quarter panel is beat up pretty bad on the rear corner by taillight.  Looks like it was dented and someone tried to pull the dent out.  The windshield is cracked but the rest of the glass is good.  The quarter windows have some scuffs and scratches so I picked up another set at a swap meet years ago and they go too.  The passenger taillight lens is broken but I have an extra complete set of good taillight assemblies that go with the car.  Same goes for the dash, the original one (with the VIN tag) is severely cracked but there is another one in good shape that goes with the car.  See the pics of all the parts.

I think most of the parts are there (except gas tank) to put the car back together....and some extra parts too, including a new set of frame ties.  I tried to take pictures of everything but please ask questions if you want to know something.

I have a video of the engine running.  If you'd like to see and hear it, copy and paste this into your browser:   http://youtu.be/51C9Jq6gfpw

I WILL NOT SELL INDIVIDUAL PARTS SO DON'T ASK.  EVERYTHING GOES TOGETHER OR NOT AT ALL. I've had this car for 15 years but there never is enough time or money to finish it so it's time to go.  There is no "buy it now" so please don't ask.

Sold AS IS/WHERE IS.  It runs and moves on it's own power so can be driven onto a trailer.  If you bring a check for payment, don't expect to take the car home or get the title signed over until it clears the bank.  This goes for bank checks too.  Lots of fake "Cashier's" checks today.

Hellephant 1,000-horsepower Mopar crate engine priced, is available to order

Fri, Apr 26 2019

The folks at Fiat Chrysler's Mopar division unveiled its meanest road-going V8 ever at last year's SEMA show. It makes 1,000 horsepower, and it's called the Hellephant in honor of the second-generation Charger's 426 "Elephant" V8, and because it has a honking big supercharger on top like the modern Hellcat. What we didn't know was the price, but now order books are open, and it's priced at $29,995. That's about $10,000 more than the currently available Hellcat engine, which makes 707 horsepower. You'll also probably want to buy the available kit that comes with all the computers, wiring, sensors and throttle to run it, and that's an extra $2,265. Putting things further into perspective, you can actually buy an entire new Dodge Challenger SXT V6 for $29,340. You'll also still need to add other accessories if you want things like air conditioning, which Mopar is also happy to sell you. What we're saying is, this is a lot of money just for an engine. But on the other hand, this is a roughly plug-and-play engine with Bugatti Veyron power for the price of a V6 Challenger, so that's pretty awesome. And you can put it into anything you have the skills or money to put it in. Plus, it should be able to make more power with higher-octane fuel. We can't wait to see the swaps and builds.

FCA's shifter fiasco proves novel gear selectors are a bad idea

Tue, Feb 9 2016

What's wrong with PRNDL? Why are automakers trying to overly complicate the simple task of selecting gears? If there's any lesson to learn from the recent news that NHTSA is investigating 853,000 Fiat Chrysler vehicles over its problematic gear selectors, it's that the trend of fancy shifters needs to stop. Now. Last year, NHTSA opened an investigation into Jeep Grand Cherokee models, and has now expanded this probe to include the 2012-14 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger. The problem? The shifter – assembled by ZF – is confusing for many drivers. "Testing ... indicates that operation of the (electronic) shifter is not intuitive and provides poor tactile and visual feedback to the driver, increasing the potential for unintended gear selection," a NHTSA document states. More than 100 crashes and over a dozen injuries are linked to this problem, according to The Detroit Free Press. To us, the problem isn't just limited to FCA. These unnecessarily novel gear selectors are spreading like wildfire across the industry. Honda and Acura use a weird pushbutton setup. Lincolns have buttons on the dashboard. Jaguar's shifter electronically raises out of the center console. Mercedes uses a stalk with up-for-Reverse, down-for-Drive, push-for-Neutral arrangement. And what the hell is BMW thinking with its M cars? FCA has since abandoned the confusing shifters in question. The 300, Charger, and Grand Cherokee now use the rotary shift dial that's quickly proliferating across the company's brands. Simplistic gear selectors might not be sexy, but no one ever complained about not being able to find the right gear in a Hyundai Sonata. What's most interesting is that this NHTSA investigation could push FCA – and possibly other automakers – to redesign vehicle functions that otherwise operate as designed. Just because most people will never have a problem putting a Dodge Charger in Reverse doesn't mean there isn't a flaw with the design. But perhaps a more simplistic solution – good ol' PRNDL – would have prevented these issues from the start. 2013 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee

Tue, 12 Mar 2013

I can pinpoint the exact moment when I fell in love with this car. It was starting down a nearly straight entrance ramp at 15 miles per hour when I buried the throttle. In a moment, I was thrown back into my seat as the big SRT8's engine came to life with commensurate sound, fury and force, bringing me up to 75 mph in what felt like two blinks of an eye. This thing feels so much quicker than its 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque would lead you to believe. And mashing the right pedal never, ever gets old.
But beyond sheer speed, I found a whole lot to like about the Charger SRT8 during my week with the Pitch Black test car here in Detroit. And while the whole Super Bee kit isn't really my style, it's really easy to overlook those badges for a package that offers so much for so little.
