This is your chance to get a remarkably low-priced Viper in turnkey condition (extensive upgrades, 30K service completed, multiple common Viper issues corrected).

I purchased this car to use as a daily driver in August 2013 and quickly invested over $10k in upgrades and maintenance. I put over 3k trouble-free miles on the car in three months. Unfortunately, I learned post-purchase that the Viper is a fantastic car but a terrible daily driver (e.g., harsh suspension, constant attention, awkward ingress/egress, etc.) After much reflection, I’ve made the difficult choice to move on. I’ve already bought a relatively mild-mannered 370z as my new daily driver and will get a motorcycle for my weekend grins-mobile after I sell the Viper.

My pre-purchase blind enthusiasm is your good fortune.  I’m selling my Viper for only $36k OBO, even though that gives me a guaranteed loss in only a few months of ownership.

The Highlights

  • Limited edition Mamba (#002 out of 200); beautiful red and black interior with red stitching and red brake calipers
  •  HRE 593R wheels with polished lip - 18x10F 19x13R ($5k parts)
  • Brand-new rear Nitto Invo 345/30/19 tires ($785 parts/labor; paperwork available)
  • Belanger headers and hi-flow cats for a significant power boost and much more aggressive sound ($3,630 parts/labor; installed by Elite Racing Development on 11/25/13; paperwork available)
  • Borla stainless steel catback exhaust ($1,000 parts parts/labor)
  •  H&R high-flow intake kit ($234 parts; installed on 11/10/13; original filters included; paperwork available)
  • Kenwood MP3/USB/Bluetooth head unit with two-year service plan ($429 parts/labor; installed by Custom Sounds on 9/21/13; paperwork available)
  • Lloyd Viper floor mats ($140 parts; installed on 9/10/13)
  • MGW Gripper short-throw shift knob (original shifter included)
  • Mechanically very sound
  • Passed inspection on 12/21/13

Recent Maintenance

All maintenance listed below was performed by highly experienced Viper tech Jaime Quintero at Covert Dodge in September 2013 when the vehicle had 28,620 miles (a few weeks after I purchased it). All service records are available.

  • 30k maintenance: Replaced plugs, wires, spark plug shields and intake gaskets ($710 parts/labor)
  •  30k maintenance: Brake fluid & clutch fluid change ($206 parts/labor)
  • 30k maintenance: Oil and oil filter change ($182 parts/labor)
  • 30k maintenance: Differential fluid change ($137 parts/labor)
  • 30k maintenance: Manual transmission fluid change ($100 parts/labor)
  • 30k maintenance: Replaced fuel filter ($224 parts/labor)
  • 30k maintenance: Replaced air filters ($150 parts/labor)
  • Common Viper issue corrected: Replaced rear hubs ($2,170 parts/labor)
  • Common Viper issue corrected: Replaced oil cooler lines and fittings ($778 parts/labor)
  • Common Viper issue corrected: Replaced power steering pressure hose and fittings ($381 parts/labor)

Rebuilt Salvage Title

The vehicle was involved in a front-end accident under former ownership.  Collision work was performed by Berli’s Fine Finishes to bring the car to like-new condition. The only sign of the accident are thin hairline stress marks on the headlights, and they’re visible from only 10 feet away or closer.

Ward's announces 10 Best Engines 2015

Wed, Dec 10 2014

Ward's Auto has named its 10 Best Engines for 2015, covering a range of powerplants from fuel-sippers to fire-breathers. As with past years, forced-induction reigns supreme, with seven of the ten engines featuring a turbo or supercharger. This year is slightly different, though, as two of the seven blown engines are turbocharged three-cylinder mills, from the Ford Fiesta and Mini Cooper. They're joined by the 2.0-liter turbo four from the Volvo S60, the 1.8-liter turbo four from the Volkswagen Jetta and the 2.0-liter boxer from the Subaru WRX. BMW and Chrysler were the only marques to be named to this year's list twice, with the electric motor from the i3 joining the Mini's three-pot, and the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 in the Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Cherokee repping the diesel crowd, alongside a certain supercharged monster. Hyundai also took a prize with a zero-emissions powertrain, with the Tucson FCV's 100-kilowatt fuel cell making the list (apparently Ward's is quite generous with what it deems an "engine"). Rounding out the list are two Autoblog favorites, each displacing 6.2 liters, but producing their power very differently. On the one hand, Chevrolet's overhead-valve, 455-horsepower V8, found in the Corvette, makes its power the old fashioned way. And in the other corner, we have one of the most exciting engines of the year – the 707-hp, 6.2-liter, supercharged Hellcat V8, featured so prominently in the Dodge Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcat. "We spend a lot of time reading the powertrain tea leaves throughout the auto industry, and we're proud that this year's list is a microcosm of all the latest innovation coming from automakers," said Ward's Editor-in-Chief Drew Winter in a statement. "It's not just a list for enthusiasts or for environmentalists," he says. "There's something for every vehicle shopper and every budget. All the powertrains on this list deliver a first-rate driving experience," Winter added. Scroll down for the full list from Ward's, and let us know which engines you think belong and which should have been included in this year's rankings. Stellantis aims to eliminate separate inverter, charger to improve EV efficiency

Fri, Jul 21 2023

Stellantis has announced that, in collaboration with French battery company Saft and French National Center for Scientific Research, has made significant progress in eliminating two major components of an electric vehicle powertrain: the on-board charger and the power inverter for the motor. The company claims that doing this will allow for better space use in vehicles, as well as improvements in efficiency, cost and reliability of components. As a quick primer, also explained in the below video, the on-board charger and power inverter are sort of translators to get the right current to different parts of the electric powertrain. The on-board charger takes AC power from the grid and converts it to DC to charge the batteries. Then when power goes from the batteries to the electric motor, the power inverter converts that DC power back to AC. These components aren't exactly small. Frequently you'll find them packaged somewhere under the hood. What Stellantis and its cohorts have developed, and have been using on a test vehicle since last summer, are small power inverter boards that can be mounted very closely to the battery packs. They can handle both conversion needs, for charging and discharging, instead of needing two separate devices. The most obvious perk to this is that you can do away with those traditional components and free up more space, either for making smaller vehicles without losing interior volume, or adding space to a vehicle that wouldn't have had it otherwise. There's the additional benefit of reduced weight, something that EVs struggle with. Stellantis also claims improvements in efficiency, reliability, and cost, however, it didn't go into detail as to how this setup would do that exactly. We'll try to get in touch with representatives from Stellantis in order to get more information. We're still a ways out from seeing this technology in production Stellantis vehicles. The company said it aims to apply it to vehicles by the end of the decade. Saft is also looking at using it on stationary battery systems as well. So maybe we'll see it on a 2029 Ram 1500 REV, but for now, we'll be living with traditional chargers and inverters. Related Video: Green Alfa Romeo Chrysler Dodge Fiat RAM Technology Electric

Dodge Dart Registry helps you crowdsource money for your next ride [w/video]

Wed, 23 Jan 2013

To be honest, we're surprised something like this didn't pop up sooner. Chrysler is riffing on gift registries for couples getting married or expecting babies and cross-pollinating it with a social media funding website like Kickstarter to help customers buy its 2013 Dodge Dart. The Dodge Dart Registry allows people to build and customize a new Dart exactly how they want it, then let other people purchase some or all of the components as gifts.
The registry lets you add features like dark headlights, dual exhaust, various wheels and even interior options without choosing a specific trim level. This sounds a lot like the system Scion uses to let its customers configure cars, and this could be a great idea for Dodge. Of course, this system has the added benefit of being a social media affair for you to share with your friends... you know, so they can help pay for some of the parts, too.
The best thing about the registry is that you can configure your dream Dart from the comfort of your home computer, which strikes us as much better than walking around Bed, Bath and Beyond for the better part of an afternoon with an electronic scanner. The one thing that Dodge doesn't offer? "Thank You" cards. Those are on you.
