Dodge Challenger SRT Demon TransBrake eliminates the need for brake torquing
Thu, Mar 23 2017Performing the perfect launch is key to drag racing. In order to get consistent starts, the engineers behind the Dodge Demon developed TransBrake, a system that holds the output shaft of the automatic transmission to keep the vehicle stationary until launch. Rather than the traditional method of two-foot brake torquing, the system is triggered by pulling the shift paddle for quick and consistent launches. According to Dodge, the main benefit of TransBrake versus a two-foot setup is a quicker power delivery and higher engine launch torque potential. The system gives brake-free launches up to 2,350 RPM, a 105-percent increase in launch boost pressures, and a 120-percent increase in engine launch torque. Dodge also claims that using the paddle provides a 30-percent better reaction when compared to using your feet. In addition to shifting duties from your feet to your hands, the Demon's TransBrake will preload the driveline. Torque is loaded at the wheels, not the transmission. That means full torque delivery 150 milliseconds after the shift paddle is released. It should also help reduce the driveline shock that occurs when those 315 section rear tires get near-instant grip. The reveal is coming near. Chrysler recalling 2009-2010 Ram 1500, Dodge Dakota pickups over axle pinion nut
Mon, 08 Oct 2012Chrysler is issuing a recall for the 2009 and 2010 Ram 1500 and Dodge Dakota pickup trucks due to improper installation of the rear axle pinion nut. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a total of 44,300 trucks are affected by the recall, and there have been 12 confirmed incidents including one crash.
The issue on both trucks is that the pinion nut is loosening on some trucks due to a lack of thread adhesive, and it is causing the rear axle to lock up resulting in loss of vehicle control. NHTSA's recall notice says that eight incidents occurred at speeds over 35 miles per hour and most also exhibited driveshaft failures as well since the loss of the pinion nut would cause the gear to separate from the driveshaft. In one complaint, the driveshaft separated from the rear axle and punctured the gas tank.
Chrysler will begin sending out recall notices to affected owners in November, but scroll down to see the official NHTSA notice.
Police officer fired for sexually harassing a young woman
Wed, Aug 24 2016A police officer in Jackson, Mississippi was fired after a video surfaced on Tuesday of him sexually harassing a young woman from his patrol car. According to WAPT, Officer Darryl Stasher of the Jackson Mississippi Police Department rolled up to two young women walking down the street and began talking to them through the driver's side window of his patrol car. During his discourse, his language because coarser and more suggestive. He gave one young woman his number and told her that he was "going to take care of her" and that he wanted to "do more than talk". He also suggested that the two should "get a room" together. The whole exchange was caught on video, and soon after the incident the young woman uploaded the footage to Facebook where it quickly went viral. It didn't take long for the Jackson Police Department to get wind of the video. "The Jackson Police Department does have possession of the video that was posted to Facebook by the young lady," said JPD Commander Tyree Jones. "Chief (Lee) Vance found the video to be very disturbing. He is very disappointed due to the content that's in the video." Upon learning of the video, JPD put Officer Stasher on desk duty pending the results of an internal affairs investigation. Stasher, who worked for at least eight years for JPD in the second precinct, was fired soon after the investigation finished. Related Video:
