Will the Dodge Demon do a 10-second quarter-mile?
Fri, Apr 7 2017The final teaser for the Dodge Demon is finally here, and it might just give us a clue as to how quick the new car really is. A brief glimpse at a time slip shows what might be a 10-second quarter-mile time. That's a significant step up from the standard Hellcat's 11.7 seconds, but considering all of the Demon's modifications, it's not an unreasonable time. The new video, "Judgment Day," shows the new Demon in its natural habitat, a quarter-mile drag strip. There isn't much new information, aside from the brief glimpse at a time slip. There is a good shot of the car in action and some nice audio from what we assume is a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi. For comparison, the new 2016 Chevrolet COPO Camaro is capable of a 10.7-second quarter-mile run, while the 2016 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet dips all the way down into the 8s. The full reveal is less than a week away. Look for more information, including the long-awaited horsepower rating, next week during our coverage of the 2017 New York Auto Show. Thieves still love older Hondas and pickups most, says NICB [w/video]
Wed, 20 Aug 2014No one wants to have their car stolen, but a new study by the National Insurance Crime Bureau has some bad news for older Honda owners and pickup drivers. Fortunately, it has better news for drivers overall. The group is reporting that according to preliminary data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, thefts were down 3.2 percent in 2013 (versus 2012) to fewer than 700,000 cars. That's the lowest figure since 1967. That's also less than half of the peak of over 1.66 million thefts in 1991. "The drop in thefts is good news for all of us," says NICB President and CEO Joe Wehrle. "But it still amounts to a vehicle being stolen every 45 seconds and losses of over $4 billion a year."
Honda drivers might not find it such good news with older Accord and Civic models topping this year's theft study. Toyota and Dodge can't really celebrate, either, with two models each on the list, as well. Overall, this year's list was split evenly between foreign and domestic models, which were mostly pickups.
The 10 most likely vehicles to be stolen in 2013 were:
Indications of 825 hp and emissions issues for Hellcat called 'speculation' by Chrysler
Tue, 16 Sep 2014The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is probably one of the hottest cars of the moment mostly because of its insane, 707-horsepower supercharged V8. However, there are conflicting reports coming out that the powerplant might be having problems with its emissions compliance and may be capable of even more power.
Jalopnik says that an unnamed source within Fiat Chrysler Automobiles told it that the Hellcat was having problems meeting emissions standards at its 707-horsepower tune. The person claimed that the automaker has been testing the V8 with different types of sensors, possibly to make it a bit cleaner in the future. Autoblog spoke to SRT spokesperson Dan Reid, and he said about the claimed poor emissions, "It's totally speculation."
The source also claimed that the Hellcat had been dynoed at a monumental 825 horsepower, internally. Based on the other rumor, though, it's hard to imagine the engine being emissions compliant like that. Autoblog also asked Reid about this speculation about more power and was told, "They are totally speculating about that."
