Beautiful, very rare, good running, all stock and original, one family owned, near rust-free, wonderfully patina'd, barn-find example of a 1964 Dodge D100 Town Panel. A friend of a friend remembers being with his dad when his family bought it brand-new in 1964. They owned a local dairy known as Canyonlands Dairy in Monticello, Utah and used it for 15 years to delivery dairy products in the local area. They were the distributor for Hi-Land Dairy products (google them) and you can still see the red check mark logo on each side. It even has the vintage rear license plate with a 1979 sticker (see pics) indicating when it was 'put out to pasture'.
Below is a link to a quick overview of the 1954-1966 Dodge Town Panel/Town Wagon series... Details on mine are below... Running gear is excellent. It consists of a 318CID Polysphere V8 running through a New Process 435 4 speed manual transmission to the Chrysler rear differential with a 3.90 gear ratio (see VIN tag pics). The engine starts right up and shifts very smoothly. It doesn't have any leaks either... amazing (see pics). Even though it runs well I'd recommend a carb rebuild depending on your climate and elevation. I just installed an electric fuel pump that draws gasoline from a container under the hood. This beauty has mostly just sat for the last 35 years. My plan is to clean out the gas tank and fuel line by auction end. There is a little slop in the steering (not bad) and brakes need to be pumped to build up pressure. Brakes may also be fixed by auction end. Exterior is also in extremely good condition. It has had one ancient respray over the original white. Bumpers have been recently rechromed in anticipation of a restoration that never materialized. Rust is confined to a small part of the left front fender and rear fenderwells (see pics). Anything else is just surface. I also have many pictures of the front and rear inner fenders and undercarriage that show how solid and rust-free they are. All four doors open and close solidly. Rear doors have some stress cracks from constant use and rattle while driving. Vent window and rear door glass is good. Windows roll up and down properly but glass is broken. Windshield has two cracks; one on the far left and one on the far right. You don't notice them. The interior is solid. The dash has no cutting or butchery of any kind. Buttons, knobs, and switches are in place. Glass is missing from gauges and they do not function. Horn and front lights work well; the others are intermittent. And even the radio works! Drivers seat has been replaced (it's very comfy). Passenger seat has always been a vintage steel milk crate turned upside down and padded (see pics). Cargo area was insulated throughout years ago to keep dairy products from freezing at night (Monticello, Utah gets COLD). Original plywood flooring in rear looks great from underneath. This is such an awesome rig. It runs/drives very well in its current condition and is wonderfully original. The value here is in its complete, original, and substantially rust-free nature. That the running gear is so impressive is just icing on the cake. I hope it finds a home with someone who will treat her like the rare beast she is and perhaps bring her back to her former glory. Just my two cents. My name is Chris and I am happy to answer your questions. Please call me at 435-669-1470. I also have tons of pictures that show every nook and cranny in great detail. Send me your email address and I'll get them to you. This sweet 1964 Dodge Town Panel is located in the dry, desert community of Hurricane, Utah (a little over 100 miles north of Las Vegas). Good luck and good bidding. |

2.1 million vehicles recalled again over faulty airbags
Sat, Jan 31 2015Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Honda and Toyota will recall 2.1 million vehicles to fix faulty airbag modules "after the manufacturers' original attempts to fix the defects proved ineffective in some vehicles." These vehicles had all previously been recalled, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that the airbags could still potentially malfunction. This recall will cover Acura MDX, Dodge Viper, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Honda Odyssey, Pontiac Vibe, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Matrix and Toyota Avalon models made in the early 2000s. NHTSA has reportedly received about 40 reports of airbag deployment in such vehicles, even though the vehicle had not been involved in a crash. Roughly one million of these same vehicles, all from Honda and Toyota, are also subject to recalls due to faulty Takata airbag modules, though this particular recall is for "an electronic component manufactured by TRW" that is separate from the actual airbags from Takata. According to NHTSA Administrator Mark Rosekind: "This is unfortunately a complicated issue for consumers, who may have to return to their dealer more than once. But this is an urgent safety issue, and all consumers with vehicles covered by the previous recalls should have that remedy installed. Even though it's a temporary solution until the new remedy is available, they and their families will be safer if they take the time to learn if their vehicle is covered and follow their manufacturers' instructions. A hassle is much better than a family tragedy." If you're the owner of an affected car, expect to hear more from the official automaker and government channels in short order. In the meantime, we'd suggest getting your car checked and fixed at your local dealer. The official statement and recall information can be found below. Previously Recalled Vehicle Remedies Not Working as Designed; NHTSA Announces Follow up Recall of 2.12 Million Cars and SUVs Saturday, January 31, 2015 Contact: Gordon Trowbridge, 202-366-9550, Public.Affairs@dot.gov WASHINGTON – U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced today the recall of more than 2.12 million Acura, Dodge, Jeep, Honda, Pontiac, and Toyota vehicles for a defect that may cause airbags to deploy inadvertently. The recalls will provide vehicle owners with a new remedy after the manufacturers' original attempts to fix the defects proved ineffective in some vehicles.
Bob Bondurant driving school closes a month after entering Chapter 11
Tue, Nov 13 2018On Oct. 2, the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. In its filing, the 50-year-old racing school said it owed between 50 and 99 creditors an amount between $1 million and $10 million, and had $1 million to $10 million. The school released a statement at the time saying, "Our plan is to emerge from this process as a stronger company and continue to drive this company into the next 50 years." Instead, on Monday, Nov. 12, the Chandler, Arizona-based facility closed its doors with no official explanation. On top of its classes for aspiring racers, law enforcement authorities, and general population students, Bondurant has been the official driving school for Dodge SRT vehicles since 2015. Over the past two years, Dodge has included a one-day training course for any SRT buyers and lessees, redeemable within a year after finalizing the deal for the vehicle. To read the tale of one Hellcat owner at the Hellcat.org forum, even the school's instructors didn't see the closure coming. Forum member Av62nv arrived at Bondurant Monday to start his four-day experience. After a lengthy pause in the middle of the day, Av62nv wrote that the instructor walked in and told the class, "Sorry guys, don't know how to say this, but as some may know the school is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and it looks like 7 now. We are closed." Another poster in the forum, CubeMan, wrote that "Technicians and staff loaded their toolboxes, and paychecks have apparently bounced." Apparently family scion Jason Bondurant arrived and tried to explain; the short of it was that the good thing had come to an abrupt end, but there was "a chance it could come back." Other posters in the forum noted how they have reservations as far out as June 2019, or haven't been able to get to their classes yet because of delivery delays with their SRT cars, and have no idea what's happening. The website is still up, but a Bondurant spokesman confirmed the closure to Classic Cars, and a note on the school door reads, "School is closed. Direct all inquiries to Pat Bondurant." Pat is Bob Bondurant's wife, who married the former race driver in 2010 at the Monaco Grand Prix. A month ago, Bondurant's Chapter 11 bankruptcy statement said, "We will continue operating and serving our students and corporate groups as usual while we develop new business relationships to ensure the vitality of the company in the future." Obviously, that won't happen.
Queens man knows how to party, disrupts Mets game with van
Fri, Jun 24 2016A New Yorker and all-around true American hero took his weekend festivities a little too far and landed himself in front of a judge last week. According to NBC New York, Nelson Hidalgo drove his unassuming Sprinter to Citi Field on Saturday, June 18, around 10:45 p.m. While the Mets were getting thrashed by the Braves, Hidalgo pulled up to the intersection of 127th street and 35th avenue. Hiding within the van's cargo area were 80 speakers driven by powerful amps, around $20,000 worth of car audio. Hidalgo opened the Sprinter's rear doors, deployed his amazing speaker system, cracked a cold Coors Light, and unleashed hell. Noise complaints immediately started flooding in to the police, including one from the Mets' bullpen. Soon, Hidalgo amassed a sizable crowd who had come to rock out and marvel at the lunacy of the Sprinter's sound system. The NYPD showed up eventually and, undaunted by noise and the crowd, clapped the irons on poor Nelson. The Sprinter was impounded and Hildago was charged with second-degree criminal nuisance, general noise prohibition, disorderly conduct, and obstructing the driver's view. "I know it's illegal, but it's the weekend," he explained to the cops as they hauled him away. Once they had him in custody, the NYPD realized that Hidalgo was the person they had been looking for in connection with absurdly loud music coming from various city junkyards in the dead of night. Hidalgo, who has no prior record, spent the night in the slammer but was released the next morning with no bail on the promise that he return for his court date on August 1. Related Video:
