I am the second owner of this car. I purchased it in August of '07 from a Dodge dealer in Florida. It had 23K on it. I was working for a large electronics manufacturer at the time and had to carry a large amount of equipment (to show, not delivery) all over 6 states. Trust me, this car can carry a ton of stuff! The mileage is high on the car but, 95% of it is highway mileage. It has always been professionally maintained and adult driven. This is an AMSOIL car and even though my mechanic told me I was wasting my money by doing so, I would have the oil changed every 5000 miles. Needless to say, the engine neither burns or drops oil. The transmission and rear end oil are also AMSOIL. Each tank of fuel was treated with LUCAS fuel treatment.

Original equipment:

  • 3.5L HO (High Output) fuel injected V6
  • Automatic transmission
  • Traction control
  • Heated Leather Seats
  • 8-way Power Driver Seat, 6-Way Power Passenger Seat
  • Power Adjustable Pedals
  • Cruise Control
  • Air Conditioning
  • AM/FM/CD

Added :

  • Pillar mount gauges were added shortly after I bought the car (Voltage/Oil pressure/Water temp). Gauges are multicolor GlowShift.
  • American Racing "Rogue" painted custom wheels. No, not 22's. 17's (same size as original equipment)
  • Magnaflow Performance cat-back SS exhaust system
  • Billet Pistol Grip shift lever
  • Tinted windows
  • Vent Visors
  • SRT8 honeycomb grille inserts
  • Power Slot Performance brake rotors
  • Hawk Performance HPS (High Performance Street) pads
  • New battery
  • New tires (again, original equipment; Goodyear Integrity) @ 128K miles
  • Current Inspection (11/13)

Things I know to be wrong with the car or issues;

  • The paint on front of the car shows wear from the highway mileage (even though the car has always been kept clean and waxed, Chrysler paint just isn't what it could be!)
  • A stitch is the drivers seat is pulled. It has been like that for a number of years. Since it never spread I never had it repaired (can be seen in picture)
  • Small body damage next to right side tail light. Some very nice person hit it in a parking lot and left. I replaced the taillight.
  • Door ding in passenger door
  • Glowshift water temp gauge stopped working. When the gauges were installed the mechanic kept the original dash mounted temp gauge working and it is operable. These gauges can be purchased for <$50.
  • Indicator lights in drivers side seat heat switch work intermittently. The heat works, just the lights don't sometimes.

The mileage will change before the end of the auction. I plan to take it on a short trip (approximately 200 miles round trip) on Tuesday just to give it a run. Frankly, I wouldn't hesitate to jump in this car and drive across the country. Aside from bringing the car home from Florida, it has made numerous 12 - 14 hour non-stop trips and it has always offered a comfortable ride, and NEVER let me down. This car has always been adult driven (I got it when I was in my 50's) and has never been abused.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

eBay Find of the Day: Viper Defender from '90s TV show

Fri, 24 May 2013

As car lovers, it's always hard to find a good television show with decent cars, but what the 1990s show Viper lacked in acting, scripting and plot, it more than made up for with cool cars. For starters, the lead car was a Dodge Viper RT/10, but, on screen, it was able to morph into its "Defender" mode making it an armored coupe with a full arsenal of weapons.
Fortunately, you don't have to be a fan of the bad show to love its lead car, and if you really want one, a Defender is up for auction right now on eBay. According to the listing, this car is the real deal - not a clone - and it comes with a V8 engine (not sure what happened to the V10?) and plenty of swag and memorbilia. No word on its actual asking price, but with a day left and 42 bids already, the reserve has not been met at $133,400. The listing does add that this same car was listed at Mecum back in 2010, but did not get sold, even with a bid of $270,000.

Buick takes top spot in 2022 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study

Tue, Jun 28 2022

People, economies, and supply chains weren't the only things continuing to get sick over the past year. The 2022 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS) is out, showing the average rate of problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) during the first 90 days of ownership increased overall. The average figure for the 32 ranked manufacturers in 2020 was about 166 problems per 100 vehicles. In the 2021 IQS, that dropped to an average of 162. This year, the average jumps to 180 problems. J.D. Power says that figure is a record high over the 36-year history of the study. Buick leapt to the top of the rankings this year with the fewest issues, at 139 problems per 100 vehicles in the first 100 days of ownership. After Dodge became the first American automaker to lead the IQS in 2020, followed by Ram in 2021, this year marks a three-peat for U.S. carmakers. Dodge took second this year at 143 PP100, Chevrolet third with 147 PP100, Genesis the first luxury maker on the chart in fourth with 156 PP100. Between February and May, this year's study gathered responses to 223 questions from more than 84,000 new 2022-model-year car owners and lessees. The questions are designed to zero in on real-world problems new owners encounter with nine categories of vehicle features: Infotainment; features, controls and displays; exterior; driving assistance; interior; powertrain; seats; driving experience; and climate. As has been the case in the past few year, infotainment has proved to be the most problematic bugbear making scores worse. Considering features individually, six of 10 of the worst problem areas dealt with infotainment, causing infotainment's score of 45 PP100 to be 19.5 PP100 worse than the second-placed feature. Consumers ranked getting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to connect reliably as the most troublesome.  GM didn't just score with Buick, which was one of only nine of the 33 ranked brands to show improvement this year. The conglomerate earned first place with the fewest PP100 among all the automaker groups, and scored the most model-level awards with nine, ahead of BMW with eight and Hyundai Group with three.  This year's study again showed a gap between luxury and mass-market makers, thought to be down to the amount of tech in luxury vehicles that consumers aren't properly informed about or that doesn't act as expected — that latter issue exacerbated by the chip shortage.

How Dodge dealers are earning the right to sell Hellcats

Wed, 10 Sep 2014

We all hate the idea of the dreaded dealer markup when it comes to buying a highly anticipated new car. Take the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, for example. You might spend hours reading about its supercharged V8 and speccing the model just right in the configurator, but when it finally comes down to laying down the cash, the dealer adds thousands of dollars as a "market adjustment" on the muscle machine of your dreams. As it turns out, when the Hellcat starts hitting showrooms in the third quarter, Dodge is trying to make sure that's not the case.
Dealer orders for the much-hyped Hellcat recently started, but Dodge boss Tim Kuniskis has put some special caveats in place to ensure that the Hellcat makes it to the road quickly. The initial allocation is based on the number of Dodge products that a showroom has sold in the last 180 days, and a second allotment in December is based on the last 90 days of sales and 30-day turnover. "You sell a lot of Darts for me, Journeys for me, Durangos for me, I'm going to give you the rights to this one, too, because this is a halo of the brand," said Kuniskis to Automotive News.
Furthermore, how quickly the Hellcat sells is also going to decide whether showrooms get more of them. "If you want to market-adjust the car, that's your right. But if your days-on-lot goes above what the other guys that are selling them at MSRP is, they will end up earning the allocation because their days-on-lot will be lower," he said to Automotive News. Obviously, this doesn't prevent dealers from marking up the Challenger SRT, but the strategy certainly discourages it.
