2019 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat gets a Challenger-style intake in the grille

Yesterday, we discovered that Dodge was working on some sort of update to the nose of the Charger Hellcat. Today, Dodge revealed what the change is. It's a new grille with an intake outlet. Basically, the 2019 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat will have the equivalent of the Challenger Hellcat's intake headlight. But since there isn't a convenient light to cut a hole in, Dodge just put a bigger hole in the grille next to the driver's side headlight. Presumably it leads right to the intake box like the intake on the Challenger. Close examination also reveals that the mesh has changed, as well. The 2019 model's grille has a bit more detail, and the openings are more round than the current model. No other aspects of the updated model have been revealed, but those details should come when the car is fully revealed this summer, along with the new Challenger. Chrysler recalls 88,888 Darts, Durangos, and Grand Cherokees for two separate issues

Chrysler announced a pair of recalls for the Dodge Dart, Durango, and Jeep Grand Cherokee. They're unrelated, as the Dart recall concerns windshield washer pumps, and the Durango and Grand Cherokee recall is for fuel rails. But, as Automotive News discovered, the number of cars involved in both totals up to 88,888 cars, which is rather bizarre. Breaking down the coincidental number, we first have 34,633 2016 Dodge Durangos and Jeep Grand Cherokees recalled because fasteners on the intake manifold can come into contact with the fuel rail on some vehicles. This could lead to a fuel leak, and a subsequent fire hazard. Chrysler believes only 30 vehicles will have this defect, but it's inspecting any that could have had the issue. The other part of the 88,888 cars recalled in total consists of 54,255 2016 Dodge Darts. The windshield washer pumps on affected cars could short-circuit the wiper system, disabling the wipers. Chrysler will notify owners of all vehicles, and will replace any faulty parts at no cost to the owner. Owners can also contact Chrysler's customer care center at 1-800-853-1403. Dodge Durango poised for SRT's devilish power-up

Does the world need a 707-horsepower Dodge Durango Hellcat? It looks like it's a possibility, according to recent spy shots of a suspicious test mule. But it could also be a Durango powered up with the FCA US 6.4-liter V8 that makes 475 hp. Spy shooters report that the mule captured here sounds like the Hellcat-powered Dodge Chargers and Challengers. Hidden design cues like the fascia suggest this Durango has truly devilish power. There's also a bulging hood with an air intake under the camouflage. So it could be a Durango Hellcat. It's also possible Dodge is dropping the 6.4-liter V8 used in the Grand Cherokee SRT under the hood of the Durango. Engine sharing makes sense, since both FCA SUVs are based on the same platform and built at the same factory in Michigan, though the Durango is longer to accommodate a third row. It is also more logical Dodge would add the 475-hp mill to the Durango's lineup first before going all the way to the 6.2-liter 707-hp Hellcat engine. The most powerful current Durango has a 360-hp 5.7-liter Hemi V8. We expect the Durango will get a refresh for 2018.
