You are Bidding on 2 Cars!

The First car is a "1958 Dodge Royal" Sedan in outstanding original condition, including paint, with 39,000 miles.  It is presently at my shop in Loris, SC.

The second car is a running 1957 Dodge Custom Royal Sedan that I purchased for a parts car for the 1958. It is presently at my shop in Proctor, VT

Please Note:  I will "not" sell the 57 by itself, however I would consider selling the 58 by itself or with the 57.  (The reserve is set for both cars)

I purchased the 1958 twenty years ago with 28,000 miles on it. It has never been stored or left outside. It has a "Clear South Carolina title" where it is presently registered and stored. I drove the car to SC from VT several years ago, it ran flawlessly and I use it on a regular basis. This is a beautiful original car. Car has never been repainted. Front chrome is beautiful and original. The original spare tire is still in the trunk.  Rear Chrome is showing a bit of age, but very presentable. Car runs and drives very well. Interior is beautiful!

Car is original, and paint does show it age, paint is after all 55 years old ! This is not a show car, but a very presentable original winged warrior!

With that said however, there are several items that need attention. While partially in a bay at a local gas station/repair shop, an attendant accidentally raised the garage lift, without seeing that my car was partially over the lift. The gas tank was dented before stopping the lift.  There was no other damage done. The arm of the lift hit only the gas tank and dented it. Tank has never leaked, and damage was done 15 years ago.  However, gas gauge no longer works.

Although the car has virtually no rust anywhere, moisture did get under the mat in the trunk and there is some rust, although I would consider it to be minor, there is a hole about the size of a quarter that goes through.

Both exhaust manifolds have cracks in them and need to be replaced. The parts car has two perfect manifolds on it.

The pictures tell the story. This is not a distress sale, and I will not accept any offers that fall below the reserve.

The Parts Car is a running car. Brakes do not work, although all parts with the exception of one wheel cylinder are there. Car shifts well.  There is substantial rust in the trunk, and in the floor boards, however, the frame is sound and with very little rust, (typical of the 57).  Engine and transmission are the same as the 58, 325 Red Ram with 3 speed automatic.

Please note, cars are not located together. 58 is in SC and 57 is in VT.  I can provide transportation for one or both for an additional fee, or should you win the auction, please fee free to use your own transporter. There is no title to the parts car, however I have a signed registration from NY from the last owner, as well as a bill of sale.

If you have any questions, please ask before you bid. Your bid is a binding contract! Please e-mail or call 802-459-2070
Obviously, at 55 and 56 years old respectively,  both cars are being sold "As Is" with no warranty expressed or implied.

Daily driving a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat

Tue, Feb 9 2016

I took delivery of my 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat at Ron Carter Dodge in League City. Bobby Pate and the entire Ron Carter team made the buying experience painless. Thanks, guys! It was worth the nine-month wait to get a new Challenger Hellcat at sticker price. My Hellcat is Phantom Black Tri-coat Pearl with a black interior. The car has the six-speed manual transmission and UConnect. Yes, I know the eight-speed automatic is faster, but the manual transmission provides a level of enjoyment that must be experienced to be appreciated. My original intention was to write daily about my experiences with the Hellcat, but I have been having too much fun with the car. The first 100 miles required incredible self-control to keep the car under 55 mph and engine speed under 3500 rpm. The difference in the driving experience after 500 miles was – and I am only exaggerating a little – life altering! The Red Key To paraphrase Morpheus in The Matrix, "You take the black key, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red key, you stay in wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes." The black key is in a place where it will stay until the red key is snatched from my cold, dead hand. The red key is the only key. The red key is "The Key." All 707 horsepower are available with the red key. You can lower the horsepower to only 500 using the SRT pages, I have heard, but why? I have driven the Hellcat in bumper-to-bumper Houston traffic in red-key mode. I have driven the Hellcat in the pouring rain in red-key mode. I have driven the Hellcat to the mall, to the grocery store, to the movies, and to Killen's Steakhouse in Pearland for a 100% Japanese Wagyu steak from the Kagoshima Prefecture. (It was a birthday present from my son. My money goes into the gas tank of my Hellcat.) Just for fun, I used the SRT Pages to put the car in valet mode. For those of you who do not know, valet mode limits the horsepower to: oh, hell! Who cares? The car felt like the parking brake had not been disengaged. I have heard rumors that the Tremec six-speed transmission has a 1-4 skip-shift feature. My Hellcat has never been subjected to this travesty.Questions, questions, and more questions Q: How much over sticker did you have to pay? A: Zero Q: What kind of gas mileage do you get? A: ROTFL Q: How did you ever talk your significant other into letting you buy the Hellcat? A: I didn't ask.

Jay Leno's 426-powered 1966 Dodge Coronet 500 is simple and simply fun

Wed, Dec 21 2016

This week on Jay Leno's Garage, the man in denim presents one of his most subdued-looking cars, a 1966 Dodge Coronet 500. Despite that, it's one of his favorites. As he shows, the car is nearly free of any unnecessary options, excepting bucket seats and a console shifter. At least those are the only visible options, since the original owner also opted for the massive 426 cu. in. Hemi V8. What Leno really likes about the car is the honking huge V8 combined with the car's simplicity, especially the lack of frivolities like scoops, stripes, and wings. It's finished in a low-key, dark metallic green, and has plain-Jane "dog dish" wheel covers. The one downside to the vehicle is the lack of stopping and turning ability, Leno says, which is not surprising considering the four-wheel drum brakes and lack of power assist. And keep in mind, the Coronet is not a small car. Still, it's a mean green machine, and it sounds great. Leno also demonstrates the engine's capability to chirp the tires going into second gear, despite having a three-speed automatic and a relatively tall 3.23 rear axle gear ratio. Check out the video above to get the whole story and to hear rumbling V8 noises. Related Video:

Ford Police Interceptors dominate Michigan State Police testing

Tue, Nov 1 2016

Once again, Ford Motor Company builds the fastest police vehicles. The Blue Oval touted the news in an official release following Michigan State Police and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department testing. Ford did very well. Except for one acceleration metric – zero to 10 miles per hour – the Blue Oval's Taurus and Explorer-based cop cars were the quickest, with particular praise coming for the EcoBoost-powered models, which bested Chevrolet and Dodge's V8-powered variants. Dearborn's products also posted the fastest average times around MSP's vehicle dynamics course. But it wasn't all positive for Ford. The only four-cylinder in the contest, the 2.0-liter, EcoBoost Ford SSP Sedan, had both the lowest top speed, 120 mph, and the slowest acceleration figures. It was also the slowest in track testing. Ford's products also failed to match the braking and top speeds of its rivals from Detroit and Auburn Hills – the rear-drive Charger Pursuit posted the best braking stats of the entire test, while the V8-powered Chevrolet Caprice hit the highest top speed, at 155 mph. Ford did score a top speed award, among SUVs, but at 132 mph, the naturally aspirated Police Interceptor Utility had to share its award with the equally fast, rear-drive Chevrolet Tahoe. The LA County Sheriff's timing isn't publicly available, but according to Ford, the EcoBoost-powered police cars put on a similarly impressive show for cops on the West Coast. We've assembled a spreadsheet on Google Docs that offers an easy to browse comparison of the different stats assembled by the Michigan State Police, and divided the vehicles between standard V6-powered sedans, high-performance sedans (EcoBoost and V8 models), and SUVs. You can check it out here. Related Video:
