1971 Dodge Charger SE For Sale is a 1971 Dodge charger SE, with 23,600 actual miles. This is the first time this car has been offered for sale since the second owner bought the car 38 years ago. The car is being offered for sale because the current owner has decided to relocate and downsize. The restored to original condition Charger is stunning in every way and comes with an impressive build to the current condition. The original owner was in Tennessee, and had only driven the car about 20,000 miles before the current owner bought the car. The original engine had been replaced with a 383, and since the plan was to build a race car, which was of no concern, what mattered that the body was perfect and rust free. When the car was disassembled the build sheet was located as well as the original fender tag, so it was decoded and found to be an extremely rare car as per Galen Govier. This is a U code car that is one of 587 built. Once this was found out the build changed from heading to a race car, and the car was put back to a stock configuration. The disassembly started right away, and a 440 HP motor was located for the Charger. The new engine which started as a 1970 Six-Pak 440, it has the special rods, crank and heads that came with the Six-Pak, but the original intake was replaced with an Edelbrock Performer RPM and a single Holley 4BBL 750 cfm double pumper. The new engine was completely rebuilt, balanced and blue printed. The engine was built by a performance shop that specialized in Mopar performance. A new distributor was installed at this time. The entire engine compartment was gone through and cleaned up before the engine was installed. The original 727 transmission was gone through just as a precautionary step. The original driveshaft had new heavy duty u-joints installed and was balanced. The rear end is the original with a 3.23 gear. The car is equipped with the original R/T Hemi suspension with new bushings at the upper and lower control arms. New shocks were also installed. New brakes were installed, in the original disc/drum configuration as originally ordered on this car. The rust free body was stripped and repainted the original Brite Blue Metallic and a new white vinyl roof was installed. The original rust free body had no rust, and was straight so body filler was not needed. The only flaw that was found on the body at the time of the pictures was at the rear window trim, and that was pictured to show how minor it is. The interior was redone to original specifications with new seat covers and carpet. The car starts and runs like it did when new. The car goes straight down the road with ease, shifts firmly without noises or pulsations. All of the major electrical works as it should as well as the lighting and switches. The original glass is near perfect, all of the regulators allow the windows to go up and down without issues. The original style wheels are straight and true, and the tires have like new tread on them. The car was originally equipped with A/C, but has since been removed. The original compressor will be included with the sale, as well as all of the components that we have for the car. The car has won many trophies as shown in the pictures, and will be included with the sale of the car. This car runs and drives as nice as it looks. If you have any questions please ask. There is a clear Illinois title. The car is still considered used, with that being said, there is no warranties or guarantee included and is sold as is. International buyers are welcomed. Hellephant 1,000-horsepower Mopar crate engine priced, is available to order

Fri, Apr 26 2019

The folks at Fiat Chrysler's Mopar division unveiled its meanest road-going V8 ever at last year's SEMA show. It makes 1,000 horsepower, and it's called the Hellephant in honor of the second-generation Charger's 426 "Elephant" V8, and because it has a honking big supercharger on top like the modern Hellcat. What we didn't know was the price, but now order books are open, and it's priced at $29,995. That's about $10,000 more than the currently available Hellcat engine, which makes 707 horsepower. You'll also probably want to buy the available kit that comes with all the computers, wiring, sensors and throttle to run it, and that's an extra $2,265. Putting things further into perspective, you can actually buy an entire new Dodge Challenger SXT V6 for $29,340. You'll also still need to add other accessories if you want things like air conditioning, which Mopar is also happy to sell you. What we're saying is, this is a lot of money just for an engine. But on the other hand, this is a roughly plug-and-play engine with Bugatti Veyron power for the price of a V6 Challenger, so that's pretty awesome. And you can put it into anything you have the skills or money to put it in. Plus, it should be able to make more power with higher-octane fuel. We can't wait to see the swaps and builds.

The last time Dodge recycled the Demon name, it was for a Miata fighter

Fri, Jan 20 2017

We and the rest of the automotive world are eagerly awaiting the reveal of the Dodge Challenger Demon. And why wouldn't we be? It's going to be a Hellcat, but with less weight, bigger fenders, more performance, and more Vin Diesel. This isn't the first time we've been excited about a Demon from Dodge, though. Ten years ago, Dodge had another demonic car, but it was very different from the new one. The Demon of 2007 was a lithe little roadster that looked primed and ready to take on the Miata, as well as the now-departed Solstice and Sky twins. The Demon was just under an inch shorter than the MX-5 and the Solstice, and it packed a 172 horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder that fell right between the Miata's 170 and the Solstice's 177 outputs. Dodge's estimated the curb weight, which for a concept is largely theoretical, also slotted between the two cars at 2600 pounds. That was about 150 more than the Mazda, and about 200 less than the Pontiac. The pitch perfect specifications were presented in a crisp two-seat roadster wrapper. In many ways, it looked like a baby Viper, with a menacing crosshair grille, slanted headlights, and fat rear fenders. The Demon's line's were brutally simple and geometric, too. They didn't seem far removed from the first-generation Audi TT. The interior was also plain and simple. The key highlights were a horizontal aluminum accent that ran the width of the dash, echoed by an aluminum-covered center console. The instrument cluster was uncluttered, with just four gauges, and the only controls were some climate knobs, a double-DIN head unit, and a six-speed manual. It turns out that the 2007 Demon didn't drive very well, though. You see, we actually drove this concept back in the day, and like many concepts, it still had a long way to go to be production ready. The gearbox would grind, the ride quality was terrible. However, the interior was roomy, and the engine sounded suitably grumbly, if a bit coarse. At the time, we said Dodge should absolutely build the little roadster. In retrospect, the company probably made the right decision not to invest in the Demon. The small rear drive sports car segment was, and still is, an extremely niche market. It would have been a big investment for little return, something FCA today is trying to avoid. This is all before taking into account the fact that the recession was just around the corner. In the end, we can't be too sad though.

2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon | First Run at Lucas Oil Raceway

Thu, Jul 13 2017

We drove the Dodge 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon this week. Not very far, mind you, but fast. We can't tell you all about it just yet, but we can show you what it looks and sounds like to launch it down the drag strip at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis. Thanks for watching, and come back on Wednesday, July 19, to read all about our experience behind the wheel of the Dodge Demon.
