This Charger is an R/T clone car, originally a 318.  The car was brought here from New Mexico and sat in a warehouse for many years until I bought it 2 yrs ago.  The car had exceptionally little rust, but was hit in a couple places requiring the passenger side quarter to be replaced with a new AMD piece.  The left front fender was replaced with an original NOS fender as well as an NOS lower front valence.  It also appears to have had some quarter panel work done early on in it's life on the drivers side, probably from a fender bender.

The entire car was sandblasted except outer body panels which were taken down to steel.  Everything was professionally repaired and refinished using quality products.  The car was painted professionally in a downdraft booth, and looks very nice.  This car is not a trailer queen, but a very very nice car you can actually drive and enjoy.  The chrome trim on the car was all excellent due to the western climate so it was cleaned up and retained.  The stainless trim was all hand polished on a professional buffing system.  The grill is near perfect, but I did put new outer trim on it due to the anodizing fading.  The bumpers are new AMD.  I do have new front bumperettes, which go with the car.  I just thought it looked cleaner without it.

The drivetrain is out of an original 69 Charger 383 HP and runs and drives super.  It is all original and correct down to the carb, distributor, exhaust manifolds, etc.. It has a brand new radiator which looks stock but is not original.  Even though the air cleaner pie plate says 440 Magnum it is indeed a 383 Magnum.  I did not do a front end suspension kit on this car because it didn't need it, but it has been aligned and drives nice.  New fuel tank, fuel pump, water pump, dual exhaust, shocks, etc.

The interior is very nice with the unusual buddy seat in between the buckets vs the more commonly seen counsel.  The radio does not work and the radio plate really should be replaced, it is the only real defect on the interior.  I didn't spend the money because 90% of people install an aftermarket stereo anyway.  The carpet, headliner, rear package tray, drivers front armrest, seat foam and covers are new.  Everything else is OEM. Even though the lower dash pad has vents for A/C it is an original non A/C car which is very unusual coming from New Mexico.  The dash pads are out of another Charger and are perfect.   New windshield and gasket.  Remainder of glass is decent.

In summary I would like to say that this Charger is a super nice car overall and I don't think anyone would be disappointed with it.  I am a detail freak and have sold a fair number of old Mopars that I have restored to many happy people who still own them today.  Bid with confidence.

FCA goes all-in on Jeep and Ram brands on cheap gas bet

Wed, Jan 27 2016

It's no surprise that as SUV and truck sales remain strong in the wake of unusually cheap gas, Jeep and Ram sales are taking off. What is a surprise is that FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne thinks that cheap gas will be a "permanent condition," and feels strongly enough about it to change up North American manufacturing plans. Jeep appears to be the biggest beneficiary of the product realignment. In addition to increasing the sales estimates for the brand worldwide upwards to 2 million units a year by 2018, the brand will get a flood of investment for new product and powertrains. Consider the Wrangler Pickup to be part of the salvo, as well as the Grand Wagoneer three-row announced in 2014 as part of the original five-year plan. The Wrangler four-door will get at least two new powertrains, a diesel and mild hybrid version, in its next generation. That mild hybrid powertrain may utilize a 48-volt electrical system like the one that's being developed by Delphi and Bosch – which the suppliers think will be worth a 10 to 15 percent fuel economy gain at a minimum. Down the road, in the 2020s, the Wrangler could adopt a full hybrid system. The diesel powertrain is planned for 2019 or 2020. The Ram 1500 is also pegged to receive a mild hybrid system, again potentially based on 48-volt architecture, sometime after 2020. Lastly, Jeep and Ram will take over some of the production capacity of existing plants. The Sterling Heights, MI, plant that builds the Chrysler 200 will now build the Ram 1500; the Belvidere, IL, facility that produces the Dodge Dart will take over Cherokee output; the big Jeep facility in Toledo, OH, will be used for increased Wrangler demand. In 2015, according to FCA's numbers, car and van demand went down by 10 percent, but SUV demand went up 8 percent and truck demand 2 percent. Considering that these are high-margin vehicles, FCA can't ignore the math. FCA also won't build any new factories to supplement production to meet demand, but instead are reshuffling production priorities. Think of it this way: FCA is gambling on cheap gas being a permanent part of our lives, at least into the 2020s. By doubling down on SUVs and trucks, the company stands to win big, unless a spike in gas prices changes the landscape. FCA isn't talking about a Plan B, so they're all in. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

Chrysler recalls 350k vehicles over ignition switches

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

Chrysler has announced a recall covering 349,442 vehicles due to ignition switches that can either become stuck or move without warning. All of the affected vehicles are from the 2008 model year, and were built before May 12, 2008.
The automaker has learned that ignition keys on some vehicles "may not fully return to the 'ON' position after rotation to the 'START' position during engine-startup," the company said in a statement. Additionally, "an ignition key may not fully return to the 'ON' position after rotation to the 'START' position and may inadvertently move through the 'ON' position to 'ACCESSORY' or 'OFF.'"
Chrysler says it is unaware of any related injuries, and notes that while reduced braking, engine or steering power is possible in such instances, the airbags are not affected. The later stands in contrast to General Motors' recent rash of high-profile recalls, and it's an important distinction that Chrysler (understandably) felt necessary to call out in bold print in its press release.

The Chrysler brand could be axed under Stellantis management

Sun, Jan 3 2021

MILAN — While running NissanÂ’s North American operations from 2009 to 2011, Carlos Tavares had a reputation for closely watching costs with little tolerance for vehicles or ventures that didnÂ’t make money. Experts say that means Tavares, currently the head of PSA Group, is likely to follow that blueprint when he becomes leader of a merged PSA and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. The low-performing Chrysler brand might get the axe as could slow-selling cars, SUVs or trucks that lack potential. Already the companies are talking about consolidating vehicle platforms — the underpinnings and powertrains — to save billions in engineering and manufacturing costs. That could mean job losses in Italy, Germany and Michigan as PSA Peugeot technology is integrated into North American and Italian vehicles. “You canÂ’t be cost efficient if you keep the entire scale of both companies,” said Karl Brauer, executive analyst for the iSeeCars.com auto website. “WeÂ’ve seen this show before, and weÂ’re going to see it again where they economize these platforms across continents, across multiple markets.” Shareholders of both companies are to meet Monday to vote on the merger to form the worldÂ’s fourth-largest automaker, to be called Stellantis. The deal received EU regulatory approval just before Christmas. Tavares, who for years has wanted to sell PSA vehicles in the U.S., wonÂ’t take full control of the merged companies until the end of January at the earliest. He likely will target Europe for consolidation first, because thatÂ’s where Fiat vehicles overlap extensively with PSAÂ’s, said IHS Markit Principal Auto Analyst Stephanie Brinley. Europe has been a money-loser for FCA, and factories in Italy are operating way below capacity — a concern for unions, given FiatÂ’s role as the largest private sector employer in the country. “We are at a crossroads,Â’Â’ said Michele De Palma of the FIOM CGIL metalworkersÂ’ union. “Either there is a relaunch, or there is a slow agonizing closure of industry, in particular the auto industry, in Italy.” ItalyÂ’s hopes lie with the luxury Maserati and sporty Alfa Romeo brands, but De Palma said investments are needed to bring hybrid and electric technology up to speed. FiatÂ’s Italian capacity stands at 1.5 million vehicles, but only a few hundred thousand are being produced each year. Most factories were on rolling short-term layoffs due to lack of demand, even before the pandemic.
