These cars are headed to the Great Crusher In The Sky
Fri, 24 Aug 2012It happens every year. We bid adieu to some cars and trucks that will be missed, and say good riddance to others wondering how they stayed around so long. Whether they're being killed off for slow sales or due to a new product coming along to replace them, the list of vehicles being discontinued after 2012 is surprisingly long and diverse.
CNN Money has compiled a list of departing vehicles, to which we've added a few more of our own. In the slow sales column, cars like the Lexus HS 250h, Mercedes-Benz R-Class and the full Maybach lineup appear, while the Ford Escape Hybrid, Mazda CX-7 and Hyundai Veracruz are all having their gaps filled with more modern and more fuel-efficient alternatives. Obvious exceptions to the rule include models that still sell in decent numbers like the Jeep Liberty and the Chrysler Town & Country (which will eventually be replaced by a crossover-like vehicle).
Check out our gallery of discontinued cars above, then scroll down for more information.
Will the Dodge Demon do a 10-second quarter-mile?
Fri, Apr 7 2017The final teaser for the Dodge Demon is finally here, and it might just give us a clue as to how quick the new car really is. A brief glimpse at a time slip shows what might be a 10-second quarter-mile time. That's a significant step up from the standard Hellcat's 11.7 seconds, but considering all of the Demon's modifications, it's not an unreasonable time. The new video, "Judgment Day," shows the new Demon in its natural habitat, a quarter-mile drag strip. There isn't much new information, aside from the brief glimpse at a time slip. There is a good shot of the car in action and some nice audio from what we assume is a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi. For comparison, the new 2016 Chevrolet COPO Camaro is capable of a 10.7-second quarter-mile run, while the 2016 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet dips all the way down into the 8s. The full reveal is less than a week away. Look for more information, including the long-awaited horsepower rating, next week during our coverage of the 2017 New York Auto Show. Coal-rolling Ram dually does tandem beer-shooting burnout with ATV in bed
Fri, 25 Jul 2014Sometimes a video comes around that just makes you shake your head in disbelief. Take for example these guys from Nebraska in their dually diesel flatbed Ram, doing a smoky burnout. Lighting up the tires is nothing new, but these folks take things a step further by having another guy on an ATV in bed that is also smoking the tires. Finally, people are sitting on a couch in the bed taking the whole show in, as beer cans shoot out of the stacks.
There have been several stories recently about the scourge of rolling coal, i.e., diesel trucks modified to lay down a thick, black smoke screen, sometimes for vaguely political reasons. Whatever your opinion is on it, breathing in this much nasty stuff isn't exactly great for your health. Of course, it turns out that burning rubber is pretty awful, too. Both diesel and tire emissions contain cancer-causing Group 1 carcinogens. Combine them with the cigarette smoking here, and these guys are an oncologist's nightmare. Scroll down to take it all in for yourself. Warning, there is a little explicit language.
