When you fire up this 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 Hemi, you can’t help but make the grunting noises that Tim Allen did on “Home Improvement”. The beastly 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 engine and burbling exhaust just bring it out of you. Plus, it puts a big old smile on your face. Yet even though the legendary 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 serves up 470 HP and 470 lb.-ft. of torque, impressive numbers to be sure, it also delivers up to 23 miles per gallon on the highway with the Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual transmission and a dual-disc high performance clutch. There is also a new two-mode adaptive damping suspension system with "Auto" and "Sport" modes. Each option will automatically adapt to road and driver inputs for optimal vehicle control, while the performance SRT-tuned, fully-hydraulic steering system gives you more direct response and on-center feel. The performance numbers for the 2012 Challenger SRT8 392 are pretty impressive with a 0-60 mph time in the high 4-second range, a quarter mile time in the high 12-second range and a 0-100-0 mph time in the low 15s. And if you have the room on the proper legal roadway of course, the top speed is about 182 mph with the manual transmission. With all of this power under your right foot, you also need something to haul all of it down safely and the SRT performance brake package does this with 13.8 inch (rear) vented/slotted rotors with four-piston Brembo fixed calipers painted red. The three-mode electronic stability control system with knockback mitigation, four-wheel ABS, all-speed traction control, electronic brake-force distribution, Brake Assist and Hill-start Assist (HSA) allow the Challenger to stop from 60-0 mph in just 117 feet. This car includes some creature comforts like a sunroof, heated seats, and a new, exclusive SRT heated steering wheel. And while it is hard not to want to just listen to that wonderful exhaust note, if you must have your music then you will really enjoy the 900 watt, 18-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with surround sound. This new audio system has a 32-volt TPS (Tracking Power Supply) 12-channel Class D amplifier, along with GreenEdge speaker and amplifier technology which offers superior sound quality and high Sound Pressure Level outputs with minimum energy consumption. Apparently the GreenEdge amplifiers alone outperform traditional amplifiers by up to 55 percent. This black on black beast of a car is actually easy to drive, the 6 speed manual is smooth, the clutch is light, the A/C blows really cold, but more than anything, it is just plain fun to drive. It is here and it is ready to find a new home.

Dodge Challenger SRT Demon TransBrake eliminates the need for brake torquing
Thu, Mar 23 2017Performing the perfect launch is key to drag racing. In order to get consistent starts, the engineers behind the Dodge Demon developed TransBrake, a system that holds the output shaft of the automatic transmission to keep the vehicle stationary until launch. Rather than the traditional method of two-foot brake torquing, the system is triggered by pulling the shift paddle for quick and consistent launches. According to Dodge, the main benefit of TransBrake versus a two-foot setup is a quicker power delivery and higher engine launch torque potential. The system gives brake-free launches up to 2,350 RPM, a 105-percent increase in launch boost pressures, and a 120-percent increase in engine launch torque. Dodge also claims that using the paddle provides a 30-percent better reaction when compared to using your feet. In addition to shifting duties from your feet to your hands, the Demon's TransBrake will preload the driveline. Torque is loaded at the wheels, not the transmission. That means full torque delivery 150 milliseconds after the shift paddle is released. It should also help reduce the driveline shock that occurs when those 315 section rear tires get near-instant grip. The reveal is coming near. Watch a Dodge Challenger Demon break 200 mph
Fri, Feb 16 2018We all know that the Dodge Challenger Demon is a monster in short bursts. Its 840 horsepower and drag-ready tires allow it to hit 60 mph in a claimed 2.3 seconds on the way to a sub-10-second quarter-mile time. But it turns out that the Demon doesn't run out of grunt after the quarter-mile. This was proven by a group that took one to the runway where space shuttles landed, Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds in Florida. There they hit a top speed of 203 mph. Dodge doesn't give a top speed for the Demon, but for a bit of comparison, the 707-horsepower Hellcat Widebody has a top speed of 199 mph. Watching the video, it's interesting how calm things appear to be in the cabin. There doesn't appear to be much vibration, and the car was clearly staying steady in a straight line, since the driver hardly moved the wheel. And before you know it, the 2.3-mile run is over. The run's not official unless a record-keeping body is witnessing it, and there will surely be Demons out there trying to beat this run, but it's sure fun to watch in the meantime. Stellantis and Foxconn's new joint venture will focus on connectivity
Wed, May 19 2021MILAN — Carmaker Stellantis and TaiwanÂ’s Foxconn announced plans to develop a jointly operated automotive supplier focusing on technology to make vehicles more connected, including artificial intelligence-based applications and 5G communications. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said the services that will be developed through the tie-up “will mark the next great evolution of our industry,” alongside fully electrified and hybrid powertrains. The deal brings together Stellantis, the worldÂ’s 4th-largest automaker formed this year by the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Peugeot, and Foxconn, a major supplier of iPhones. The companies said the venture would focus on such services as infotainment, the integration of telecommunications and computer systems, artificial intelligence-based applications, 5G communications, e-commerce channels and smart cockpit integration. The companies announced a non-binding memorandum of understanding to form a 50-50 joint venture called Mobile Drive, which will be based in the Netherlands and function as an automotive supplier also to other carmakers. The new venture will combine advanced consumer electronics, Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI) to create new services “that will exceed customer expectations,” the companies said in a release. “Customers today and, in the future, demand and expect ever-increasing software-driven and creative solutions to connect the drivers and passengers with the vehicle inside and out,Â’Â’ Foxconn Chairman Young Liu.
