2008 Dodge Challenger SRT/8 Convertible SEMA SHOW CAR 2009 1843/6400 Produced
Do not miss this opportunity to own this Awesome Masterpiece!!! I ordered and purchased this car from my local Chryler/Dodge Dealership in Lewes, Delaware (Wright's Chrysler) The one and only SRT Challenger this local dealership sold. I took delivery on July 1, 2008. The Challenger is # 1843 of 6400 Hardtop Models Produced for its debut in 2008. I ordered all 4 factory options to include the sunroof which no longer exists! After delivery, I saw a few others locally and elected to make my Challenger SRT8 stand out from all the rest with the following upgrades: ** August 2008 (Drop Star 20" Wheels) replaced the factory SRT aluminum OEM wheels. ** January 2009 (Drop Top Customs) The Number 5 Challenger was shipped in an enclosed trailer to Drop Top Customs in Florida for the Convertible Conversion. Drop Top Customs is well know for its craftmanship on convertible conversions for Challengers. Please see there web-site and pictures of this Challenger at www.droptopcustoms.com Additionally, they added the MoPar Performance Hood and applied the custom Black Satin Paint to the Hood/Valance and Deck Lid. **August 2009 (Performance Injection Equipment) Challenger was taken to PIE Performance in Delaware for the application of STS style Twin Rear Mounted Turbo's. These Twins Turbo's woke this Challenger up!!! This Challenger SRT Produces 500+ RWHP on the Dyno with only 5lbs of Boost. Aditionally, larger PSI injectors were used in the application. The bottom end is stock. www.performanceinjectionequipment.com ** November 2009 (SEMA SHOW LAS VEGAS) Challenger was shipped to Las Vegas for Display in the 2009 SEMA SHOW!!! This Challenger was the talk of Las Vegas as thousands of SEMA spectators and entrants viewed this masterpiece on display. The Challenger has been kept in a climate controlled setting and is in 100% condition. The mileage is Actual with 2,352 miles clocked. The Convertible Top is Power and has a Glass Rear Window. The rear 1/4 glass windows roll up and down with the top. I have over 85K invested in this one of a kind Challenger SRT8 and have set the reserve at a very fair price. What's the deal with Chrysler demanding colleges crush their Vipers? [w/video]
Fri, 07 Mar 2014Students and teachers at a Washington community college are up in arms following an order from Chrysler that it must destroy the pre-production Dodge Viper that was donated to the school's automotive technology program ten years ago.
The Viper in question is said to be the fourth off the production line, based on its VIN, and has had its emissions controls disabled, allowing its ten-cylinder engine to produce 600 horsepower, according to a report from Yahoo! Autos. As one of the first Vipers ever produced, the school's AT instructors claim it could be worth $250,000 in a museum, while a local news report purports that Jay Leno once tried to purchase the car, but the sale was prevented by Chrysler.
As pointed out by our friends at Autobytel, though, there are a lot of things in this story that don't quite add up. Immediately noticeable from the news report embedded below - which shows the car at South Puget Sound Community College - is that the car in question is not a 1992 model. When the Viper went on sale in 1992, it was only available as an RT/10 with a (flimsy) soft top, like the red car shown above. But the car featured in the report from KING5 News (inset image) is clearly a hardtop Viper GTS, which didn't enter production until 1996. And even if, as reported by a local newspaper, the hardtop featured is a prototype, it doesn't explain the lack of another iconic feature of the first Vipers - their distinctive side pipes. This kind of pokes holes in the school's argument that this is the fourth Viper to ever roll down the line. At best, this appears to be a pre-production Viper GTS.
Stellantis aims to eliminate separate inverter, charger to improve EV efficiency
Fri, Jul 21 2023Stellantis has announced that, in collaboration with French battery company Saft and French National Center for Scientific Research, has made significant progress in eliminating two major components of an electric vehicle powertrain: the on-board charger and the power inverter for the motor. The company claims that doing this will allow for better space use in vehicles, as well as improvements in efficiency, cost and reliability of components. As a quick primer, also explained in the below video, the on-board charger and power inverter are sort of translators to get the right current to different parts of the electric powertrain. The on-board charger takes AC power from the grid and converts it to DC to charge the batteries. Then when power goes from the batteries to the electric motor, the power inverter converts that DC power back to AC. These components aren't exactly small. Frequently you'll find them packaged somewhere under the hood. What Stellantis and its cohorts have developed, and have been using on a test vehicle since last summer, are small power inverter boards that can be mounted very closely to the battery packs. They can handle both conversion needs, for charging and discharging, instead of needing two separate devices. The most obvious perk to this is that you can do away with those traditional components and free up more space, either for making smaller vehicles without losing interior volume, or adding space to a vehicle that wouldn't have had it otherwise. There's the additional benefit of reduced weight, something that EVs struggle with. Stellantis also claims improvements in efficiency, reliability, and cost, however, it didn't go into detail as to how this setup would do that exactly. We'll try to get in touch with representatives from Stellantis in order to get more information. We're still a ways out from seeing this technology in production Stellantis vehicles. The company said it aims to apply it to vehicles by the end of the decade. Saft is also looking at using it on stationary battery systems as well. So maybe we'll see it on a 2029 Ram 1500 REV, but for now, we'll be living with traditional chargers and inverters. Related Video: Green Alfa Romeo Chrysler Dodge Fiat RAM Technology Electric
Here's your chance to vote for the best-looking state police cruiser
Thu, Jul 18 2019Across the country, state police generally drive the same types of vehicles. Right now, the most common cruisers are Ford Explorers, Chevrolet Tahoes, and Dodge Chargers, with some exceptions sprinkled in. The differentiation comes through in the livery, which can range from simplistic badging to busy stripes. Each year, the American Association of State Troopers (AAST) holds a fun contest to determine which state has the coolest-looking cars, and 2019 voting has just opened. We discovered the contest after Motor1 posted about the Florida Highway Patrol's newest addition to its fleet, a Dodge Challenger R/T. The musclemobile is, without question, the coolest car in the competition, and it might have the best livery too. But that doesn't mean it's going to win, as contests like this often turn into hotbeds for chest-beating homers. The AAST is posting results on Facebook, and as of July 17, 2019, Kentucky and Nebraska are blowing the rest of the states out of the water. Florida is in ninth place with 4,653 votes compared to first-place Kentucky's 14,699. New Jersey is in last place with only 107 votes. As the internet goes, this will likely be determined by how many times the contest is shared across social media. The Challenger isn't the only eye candy, either. Not every state participated, but those that did came correct with the photography, including Nebraska posing its car in front of a freakin' tornado. Others staged their cars with helicopters in the background, some set the car in front of the gorgeous landscapes their states have to offer, and others posed with dogs. Because who doesn't love dogs? No matter which car wins, it's cool to see the various designs all in one place. Check out the gallery above and vote for your favorite on the AAST's survey. The survey will close on July 30, 2019.
