1971 Dodge Challenger Classic Mopar Muscle Resto-mod (number's Matching) on 2040-cars
Riverside, California, United States
This 1971 Dodge Challenger is a #2 show car with numbers matching engine, transmission & chassis. For comparison, a #1 show car is a museum piece that is not driven but rather trailered to concourse shows. This beautiful Challenger is one step down from a #1 concourse museum show car - a real fast beauty that you can drive & take to car shows. It's always a crowd favorite. This classic Mopar muscle show car is the proud recipient of countless car show awards including best of show, best paint, best engine, best interior, best muscle car, etc. This is a solid California car with all original body panels & only minor metal replacement needed during the restoration near the rear wheels & below the rear windshield. Front windshield has been replaced & all other glass is good. This Mopar muscle street machine is more of a restomod than anything, despite the matching numbers. Countless performance upgrades make this 318/323cid LA smallblock engine, which was bored .030" over during the rebuild, a force to be reckoned with on the street with more horsepower than even the 440 six pack Mopars (395HP) that came from the factory back in the day. This smallblock engine puts out a stout 400HP & has excellent 3.55 sure grip street gears to get all that power to the pavement when you want it most. The engine has nearly double the power that it came with from the factory. Under the hood is pure eye candy with all the power & authority to back it up. With DOT BFGoodrich street legal slicks this car has run consistent 13.6 second quarter mile times at over 102 mph at the local drag strip & I have the time slips to back it up. The DOT slicks are no longer on the car but have been replaced with new BFGoodrich radial TA's, installed on genuine new Cragar-SS 7"X15" chrome wheels. The engine is very responsive & still ultra-fresh with only 5000 miles since the meticulous rebuild (See engine performance upgrade specs below). Every circuit of the fuel curve in this engine has been mapped with a computer & tuned to just the right specs for the most power when it's needed & good fuel economy at idle or when you're cruising. The interior is custom restored with all the original stock furniture, panels & controls with the addition of a nice 200W Pioneer CD player stereo. The only items not restored inside are the dashboard, seatbelts & dimmer switch. The interior dimmer switch for the dome light does not work properly. This is a very easy fix. Everything else inside was either replaced or restored. Inside there is a new headliner, new carpet, new seat foam & custom two tone vinyl seat covers with cloth inserts, new custom cloth & vinyl upholstery on the stock door panels, new upholstery on all interior panels, sun visors, rear interior deck, custom floor mats, & new burgundy paint on all the metal interior molding. The center console has also been repainted with burgundy vinyl paint & the chrome/woodgrain console insert was covered in the same burgundy pearl paint to match the outside of the car. The outside is PPG Burgundy Berry Pearl base-clear paint in excellent condition with only very minor blems & a few tiny nicks. This car is a driver, not a trailer queen, so it’s got some character road dust underneath & some tiny nicks on the lower rear quarters from doing burnouts at the drag strip. Brakes, master cylinder, brake lines, BFG TA/Radial tires, water pump, fuel pump & steering box are all new or rebuilt to the highest specs. A new heater core comes with the car but does not yet need replaced. The trunk has been painted, undercoated & detailed moderately (Nothin fancy in the trunk). All chrome has been re-chromed & the front grille is custom painted with great attention to detail & enough modifications to make it unique. The drivetrain specifications & performance upgrade details are listed below. See list below for all the performance upgrades throughout the car. Please contact me if you would like more details or to answer any questions you might have. I can also send more pictures if necessary, but please be specific about which items you want pictures of.
Due to errors in the previous listing of this awesome Mopar, the previous auction ad has been deleted & relisted with corrections. Even though bidding had not yet reached my reserve price, Ebay would not allow me to delete the erroneous information due to website policy. Therefore I deeply regret having to delete & relist my ad. Being clear & accurate in my ad both for the sake of legitimate bidders & my own feedback rating is of the highest priority to me as an Ebayer. Dodge Demon exorcised by Rhys Millen in new video
Tue, Aug 15 2017When you call your car something like the Demon, it provides plenty of opportunity to play around with the name Í— especially when said car has 840 horsepower directed to the rear wheels. Pennzoil is doing just that in the above video, called "Exorcising the Demon." In it, Rhys Millen tears up the streets of Pittsburgh at night in a black and yellow Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, smoking tires, popping wheelies and breaking the rear end loose in massive drifts around corners. He even pulls a pretty hairy 360. It's certainly a lot different sort of driving from the straight-line drag-strip experience for which the Dodge Demon was purpose-built. At the end of the video, Millen parks the car below a gargoyle, whose eyes briefly glow a menacing red. Millen sends a text message saying "The Demon is back in its place." The response: "Das good. How are you in the Ring?" (Hmm.) Then the clip ends, and we're told the story will be continued. If you don't want to wait for more cinematic Demon action, you can check out Pennzoil's behind-the-scenes video, called, "Unleashing Unprecedented Power." In it, we get to see more angles of the stunt driving, hear about the production, and, of course, get a plug for Pennzoil: This content is hosted by a third party. Pennzoil also offers a few other Dodge Demon videos, one about the car's development, one about its performance, and a third focused on Pennzoil Synthetics. Earlier this year, Pennzoil also did a similar video series to bid farewell to the Dodge Viper. As Dodge Challenger changes, hybrid or however else, it's sure to stay retro
Thu, Aug 15 2019Unverified rumors claim Dodge will make major technical changes to the Charger and the Challenger (pictured) to comply with looming regulations. They'll likely be lighter than they currently are, they could get smaller in nearly every direction, and you can safely bet that they'll incorporate some degree of electrification. The retro-inspired, heritage-laced design is here to stay, however. Mark Trostle, Dodge's horsepower-addicted chief of design, told Muscle Car & Trucks that looks deserve a big chunk of credit for making the Charger and the Challenger as popular as they are. Horsepower and quarter-mile times help sell cars, but it's the "magic of their design" that lures buyers into showrooms to check out the modern-day muscle cars in the metal. "I wouldn't want to ruin something that's been so successful for us," Trostle concluded. He compared the Challenger to the Jeep Wrangler, another design icon in the Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) portfolio. The offroader entered its fourth generation in 2018; every part of it is new, and it's not a Xerox copy of its predecessor, but it's still immediately recognizable as a Wrangler. Trostle hinted he's planning this type of evolutionary design for the next-generation Challenger. After all, it's part of the company's history, and heritage is something no amount of money can buy. While it sounds like development work on the next-generation Challenger is ongoing, Dodge isn't finished with the current-generation car yet. The nameplate will celebrate its 50th birthday during the 2020 model year, and it's reasonable to assume Dodge has something special planned for it.
Chrysler investing $20M in Toledo plant to support 9-speed auto production
Sun, 28 Apr 2013In 2011, Chrysler announced a $72-million investment in its Toledo Machining Plant to modernize production of the eight- and nine-speed torque-converters for automatic transmissions made there. That upgrade work won't be finished until Q3 of this year, but Chrysler has already announced a further $19.6-million investment to increase production capacity for the nine-speeders.
The extra units will be necessary because the nine-speed transmission they'll be mated to is going into three popular models: it will debut on the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, then go into the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart. The company predicted that this year alone it would sell 200,000 units equipped with the nine-speed tranny, and it is spending some $374 million in addition to the investment in Toledo to upgrade production capacity for it.
The work attached to this new investment won't begin until Q3 of 2014, and it will be finished by the end of that year. There's a press release below with all the details.
