1970 Dodge Challenger R/T pistol grip 4 speed car. This is a Real R/T car with fender tag and build sheet still present. This car was restored to look exactly like the Vanishing Point Movie car from 1971. The car has basically undergone a complete restoration without taking it off the frame.  Car originally came with a 383 big block, now has a date coded U code correct 440 motor backed by the infamous pistol grip 4 speed transmission. Extensive time and effort went into this car to make it what it is now, including all the identical features of the Vanishing Point Movie Car. Car has all new floors (pans front and rear), inner and outer rear wheel wells, new trunk pan and trunk drop downs, new complete rear quarters, new leaf springs, new shocks, all new brakes (has the bigger challenger brakes) and new brake lines, new fuel line, restored gas tank with new fuel sending unit, new master cylinder, new leaf springs, new e brake system, new H pipe exhaust with flowmaster style mufflers, new correct size tires with less than 100 miles, new factory Rally rims, rechromed front and rear bumpers, all existing chrome was restored and spun polished, all new lights/lightbulbs, new speedo cable, new seat belts, new correct 8,000 redline tach, new gas gauge, new dash pad. new headliner, new carpet, almost every nut and bolt has been replaced. The motor has been rebuilt previously before I purchased the car to original specs and is very very powerful,  has been compression checked, new oil filter, plugs, plug wires, cap, and belts, new battery,  does not drip oil whatsoever, it does have a new edelbrock 800 CFM carb with electric choke and a new aluminum radiator to improve the cooling, (I have the original radiator if new owner wants it), correct double snorkel air cleaner, car was taken down to bare metal and any panels as previously mentioned were replaced, car was painted with Dupont base coat/ clear coat in the correct 1970 Chrysler Challenger White. Vanishing Point features that are true to the movie car are as follows.... original rare front bumperettes, Rally R/T steering wheel, correct drivers side only chrome mirror, Colorado License plate OA-5599, plain style gas cap and being a real R/T Dodge Challenger.  The car drives great and shifts smooth, clutch is tight and responsive. The are only very minor flaws which I feel I should mention, taillight bezels are very brilliant chrome but have pitting, original interior drivers side door has very small split in bottom of driver door grip, and all original chrome shined to brillant there are some very small imperfections. and there are a couple of very small mounting holes drilled in the dash. Car is a non a/c car , non power steering car,   Car comes with original Jack, and has clear Florida Title. Winning bidder also gets with the car an original Vanishing Point Movie poster (not repro) Japanese version poster (US does not show the Car) framed and matted with the autograph of Barry Newman the actor who drove the Challenger. From Maseratis to rental cars | Autoblog Podcast #511

Fri, Apr 7 2017

On this week's podcast, Mike Austin and David Gluckman are in a huddle room (again), because the studio was already taken (again). We talk about the all-wheel-drive Dodge Challenger GT (again), as well as the Jeep Wrangler, Maserati Levante, Miata RF (again), and then David waxes poetic on mediocre rental cars (or similar). The episode wraps up with the traditional doling out of Spend My Money buying advice, with some input from an S2000 owner on advice discussed last time. The rundown is below. Remember, if you have a car-related question you'd like us to answer or you want buying advice of your very own, send a message or a voice memo to podcast at autoblog dot com. (If you record audio of a question with your phone and get it to us, you could hear your very own voice on the podcast. Neat, right?) And if you have other questions or comments, please send those too. Dodge Challenger Hellcat X is 805-hp worth of charity [w/video]

Mon, Jul 20 2015

Donating to charity is good for the soul. You feel good and help out those in need, and while you should donate out of the goodness of your heart, there's nothing wrong with getting something in return. That's doubly true if that something (or somethings) happen to run on gasoline... a lot of gasoline. For just $3 (plus $40,000 in taxes), you could park not one, but two high-powered Mopars in your driveway. The big item, of course, is the world's most powerful Dodge Challenger Hellcat. Dubbed the Hellcat X after the XF6F, a twin-charged US Navy prototype that evolved into the Hellcat fighter from World War II. Its 6.2-liter, supercharged V8 has been supplemented by a turbocharger, boosting output to 805 horsepower. Because, you know, 707 just wasn't quite enough. It should be noted that the Hellcat X isn't a production model – Fiat Chrysler isn't going to be putting a twin-charged Hemi into production – but that it's a one-off job built for the 2015 Chrysler Nationals at Carlisle. Joining the Hellcat X is a handsome, black 1970 Challenger 440 R/T. Complete with a four-barrel carburetor (yeah, we were hoping for a Six Pack, as well), a pistol-grip shifter, and menacing black paint, this exact car was the star of 2012's "Revolution Reborn" television spot. And if this car's on-air claim to fame isn't enough, rest easy knowing you're the owner of just one of 100 black 440 R/Ts produced in 1970. Now, single tickets do start at $3, although there are larger bundles available, including a $5,000, 6,000-ticket package. Proceeds from the drawing, which is being put on by Dream Giveaway, will go towards New Beginning Children's Home charity, which issues grants to everything from the National Guard Educational Foundation to Mothers Against Drunk Driving. You can check out more on the Hellcat X in the video, below. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.

12 new cars that will never go out of style

Tue, Nov 23 2021

Some cars never go out of style. It’s rare, but it happens. They get old. They get depreciated. But they never stop looking cool.  Some might call them modern or instant classics. Within a few years theyÂ’re no longer the latest and greatest, no longer the flavor of the month, but they remain special. Eternally special. Timeless.  These cars arenÂ’t necessarily going to be worth a fortune someday. However, some may not depreciate as rapidly or as far as other models. But thatÂ’s not what weÂ’re talking about here. These are the cars that enthusiasts will always find desirable from the curbside. TheyÂ’re the cars you end up shopping on eBay late at night 10 years later because you canÂ’t get them out of your head. TheyÂ’re the cars that will forever excite you when you spot a clean one in traffic or in a parking lot.  There are plenty of recent examples over the past couple of decades that could count as instant design classics. But then we got to thinking, what 2021 models will be forever cool to stare at? Which new cars and trucks on sale today will we be shopping on eBay late at night in the 2030s? We kept supercars and other ultra-expensive cars off the list to keep things within the realm of attainability, and ended up with 12 total cars. Lexus LC WeÂ’re not applying a numerical ranking to any of the cars on this list, but if we were, the Lexus LC would be No. 1. There isnÂ’t another car design out there that can stir our emotions the way an LC can when itÂ’s just standing still. This car is a concept design come true in the most beautiful of ways, and itÂ’s a shoo-in winner for Concours events decades into the future. All of this heaping praise, and we havenÂ’t even gotten to the LC 500Â’s intoxicating 5.0-liter V8. It doesnÂ’t win drag races. It wonÂ’t be the fastest around the track against any similarly-priced competition. But none of that matters. ItÂ’s quite possibly the best car you can buy new, and that says it all when it comes to the LC. Chevrolet Corvette It might not be the stunner that the Lexus LC is, but the new C8 Corvette is and will always be a special vehicle. ItÂ’s the first mid-engine Corvette, which instantly cements it into an automotive hall of fame section of sorts. All of the performance stats and specs are there to back up its supercar-like looks, and it remains the best performance bargain on sale today.
