You are bidding on a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 426 Hemi w/slapstick auto trans. The car has 34300 orig. miles on the odo and has not been on the road since 1975. It has been covered on blocks in a garage since that time. Interior because of that is in superb condition with only a small wear mark at the drivers left foot floor resting position, a bit of lightening of the driver’s door panel were the drivers arm rested on the sill and armrest also the headliner while undamaged in any way is pillowing in places. The exterior is straight BUT the car has had the paint, due I assume to needing some body work, redone on both sides of the car blended to the un-redone hood and trunk. As you can look at all of the big panels on these old muscle cars, the rear quarters and front fender inner‘ds can be looked at and no bodywork is evident. On the passengers door a scratch does reveal what could be either a primer/filler or sanding mark coat of body filler having been applied. I ran my CCTV scope inside both doors and if they were body worked you can’t tell were. Something has been done but since the original owner has passed we can only speculate. It has the shopping cart marks, for want of a better phrase, of a car that was until 1975 just a daily driver. Remember you are looking at what the car IS now, back then, it was just a car. The biggest issue as far as the car being a “Barn Find” dream is this; it DOES NOT HAVE MATCHING NUMBERS. The engine and transmission were replaced in early 1971 with a factory short block that has been massaged a bit, Iskenderian cam and lifter kit, Crower roller chain timing, Mallory Dual Point Ign. / Distributor. Also the oil lines where done up in Aeroquip and the pan oversized by 2 1/2 ”. The interior of the engine has all been de-flashed and coated for faster oil drain back. The orig. four barrel carbs were replaced with the racing versions but retained the progressive linkage that came stock including the trans kick-down linkage. Before I even turned the engine it was filled with 9+ gallons of oil held at 150 degrees F. for two days, then an electric drive motor ran the oil pump for an hour, then I rolled the engine over by hand for fifty revolutions. After that because the Torque-Flite B&M trans has a back pump, I turned the output shaft at a gradually increasing rate until it stalled by trying to turn the engine over. If you are old enough you will remember you COULD push start the old automatics, until it was cheaper to take out the back pumps. After the cooling system was cleaned, which other than some light dirt scale from being dry so long, it was refilled with 50/50 coolant, pressure tested to 20psi. With a fresh fill of high zinc and phosphorus break in oil and new filter she was ready for start-up. The points in the Mallory are perfect and just a dab of lube was all that was needed there, two pumps on the throttle and she roared, literally, into life. I let her come up to temp, new thermostat, and then raised her on the hoist until the wheels were free of the ground, put it in drive and let it free run for about 20 minutes to check for heat and or leaks, none were found. Next came the test drive, and man let me tell you, if you have never had the thrill of a 426 Hemi, it is a rush and a half. Granted, you twist her tail and you will have her tail coming right around you. She is a hand-full and NOT for the faint of heart.

This is an opportunity to own not only a piece of history, but have a choice to go with it. Because it is not a matching number car the price tag is in a much lower range. A 1970 Hemi Cuda barn find, 15k less miles and matching numbers just sold at auction for $1.3 million. You’re going to save a bundle on this car. It is perfect for the person that wants to do a ground up because the ground is not that far away, OR, you can have the coolest “Daily driver” around just the way she is. I have posted a YouTube video; it takes you on a tour over and under the car. The link is as follows; http://youtu.be/or4tBh6Vw8g

After you take the tour, AND you are serious about the car and need/want more info, M-F 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. MDT I can be reached at (801) 637-1812. I strongly suggest that you or your agent come look at the car In Person. The car is NOT perfect but remember she is 44 years old, and she still can kick ass on most anything on the street.

This car is so good that I would NOT for one moment hesitate to drive it cross country. I would recommend however that you have it trucked to you, heavily insured. But you could do it, and it would be a road trip for the ages.

Last thing here, and in payment details, I have title in hand, free and clear, PLEASE READ THIS PART CAREFULLY, There will be a 5% Buyers Premium ADDED to the end price of the car. I am brokering the car for the owner and they have agreed to split the normal 10% with the buyer. This is NOT negotiable and must be paid separately by the purchaser before ANY paperwork changes hands, period. If this is an affront to you, do not participate, simple as that.

Good luck, and do not hesitate to ask questions, here or by phone.

Chrysler recalls 88,888 Darts, Durangos, and Grand Cherokees for two separate issues

Fri, Nov 18 2016

Chrysler announced a pair of recalls for the Dodge Dart, Durango, and Jeep Grand Cherokee. They're unrelated, as the Dart recall concerns windshield washer pumps, and the Durango and Grand Cherokee recall is for fuel rails. But, as Automotive News discovered, the number of cars involved in both totals up to 88,888 cars, which is rather bizarre. Breaking down the coincidental number, we first have 34,633 2016 Dodge Durangos and Jeep Grand Cherokees recalled because fasteners on the intake manifold can come into contact with the fuel rail on some vehicles. This could lead to a fuel leak, and a subsequent fire hazard. Chrysler believes only 30 vehicles will have this defect, but it's inspecting any that could have had the issue. The other part of the 88,888 cars recalled in total consists of 54,255 2016 Dodge Darts. The windshield washer pumps on affected cars could short-circuit the wiper system, disabling the wipers. Chrysler will notify owners of all vehicles, and will replace any faulty parts at no cost to the owner. Owners can also contact Chrysler's customer care center at 1-800-853-1403. Mopar unveils Dodge Challenger Drag Pak [w/video]

Sat, Jun 27 2015

Dodge is going drag racing, and it's doing it with an all-new version of the Challenger for NHRA's Sportsman class. FCA's Mopar parts and performance arm announced the new Challenger Drag Pak Friday, showing off a version with a 354-cubic-inch (that's a 5.8-liter, by the way), supercharged V8 and a 426-ci (7.0-liter), naturally aspirated V8 – both Hemis, of course – that can get the big coupes through the quarter-mile in "the eight-second range." While the two engines deliver similar performance, at their base, they're quite a bit different. The supercharged model uses a cast-iron block, while the 426 has aluminum for both the block and head. That said, both models get customized engine calibrations, and are mated to unique, race-spec automatic transmissions. But drag racing is about far more than just outright power. Mopar significantly updated the four-link rear suspension, adding a four-inch rear axle from Strange Engineering, along with an aluminum, nine-inch third member, while the rear-axle housing has been strengthened in general. Both the rear shocks and front struts can be adjusted for rebound and compression, too. Lightweight 15-inch wheels, meanwhile, are shod in super-sticky Hoosier drag radials, with nine inches of tread in back and 4.5 inches in front. The new Challenger Drag Pak should run the quarter-mile in "the eight-second range." In the cabin, there's an NHRA-spec roll cage, a Racepak gauge cluster, and a handsome pair of Sparco racing seats. Outside, supercharged models get blue decals, while naturally aspirated varieties get black stickers, although there's more to the new Challenger dragster's exterior than just its decals. Mopar tweaked the big-scoop hood, promising it's easier to get up to check on the engine, and the designers also added trailer tie-down straps in both the front and rear. While the dragster was the big news today, Mopar officials also announced the two enhanced Scat Pack kits for both the Dodge Charger and Challenger R/T. The 5.7-liter Hemi models gain an extra 56 horsepower and 30 pound-feet of torque in the Scat Pack 2 thanks to a new cam, valve springs, pushrods, and gaskets. The Scat Pack 3, meanwhile, adds 75 hp and 44 lb-ft, on top of the gains from the lower packages. That should be perfect for drivers who wish to snort in the face of their SRT 392-driving friends. The third stage adds a ported cylinder heads, as well as high-flow manifolds and catalysts.
