1970 Dodge Challenger on 2040-cars
Whitestone, New York, United States
These cars are getting harder and harder to find folks !
This is a No Reserve Auction so good luck bidding!
Here is a 1970 Dodge Challenger with its original matching numbers 318 V8 engine and matching 3-speed manual transmission on the floor. It is F8 dark green with green interior, and originally had a white vinyl top. The car has power steering, manual drum brakes, music master am radio, fender mounted turn indicators, console option, and six-way seat adjuster. The car is about 97% complete and includes some extra parts (missing some trim and air cleaner), and it has a Connecticut title, fender tag, door decal, dash VIN, and radiator stamping that all match. The car is ready for a full restoration back to original, or a great candidate for a T/A or RT clone. The car has been stored many years and does not run, so the buyer will need to make arrangements to have the car transported. Here are some more details on the car to go with the photos. PLEASE BE ADVISED VEHICLE NEEDS A COMPLETE RESTORATION INCLUDIBNG RUST REPAIR, VEHICLE DOES NOT RUN. Fender Tag codes Read: C62- 6-way seat adjuster, G34- Left hand outside racing mirror, L31- Fender mounted turn signals, M21- roof drip rail moldings, R11- Music master AM radio, V5F- Body side moldings green, V1W- Full vinyl top white, A01- Light package, A04- Basic radio group, A05- Protection group, C16- Console with buckets, C55- Bucket Seats, EF8- Paint Code Dark green metallic, H6F8- Trim grade high, vinyl buckets green, 000- Full upper door, 615- Build date, 116657- Order #, E44- 318 2-barrel, D13- 3-Speed manual floor The frame: the frame overall all is quite solid, with three small areas that I noticed that have some rust. First is a spot on the top of the frame rail just below the battery tray(common spot), second is a spot on the passenger side frame extension, and the third is a spot in the bend of the frame by the left rear tire. (see pics that correspond with these areas) The trunk floor needs replacement but frame underneath looks pretty good. Body: The body needs a full restoration. All the panels look original with probably a repaint at some point. Because of the vinyl top there is rust in the front pillars and a hole on the rear passenger side of the roof. The filler panel behind the vinyl top trim looks good though. Fortunately there are roof repairs panels available now. The drivers inner front fender (affects battery tray, hood hinge, etc) needs to be replaced. The front floorpans have surface rust but no holes, and the drivers side rear floorpan does have rust through and affects the inner rocker on that side. The grill is in excellent shape, the firewall is solid, and the bumpers are pretty solid too. The original doors on the car are in decent shape. The hood and trunk lid are rough underneath, but I do have a bunch of extra used body parts that go with the car if the buyer wants them, including an extra trunk lid, front valence, rear valence for dual exhaust, two front fenders, and two extra doors) Interior: All the original seats and panels appear to be in the car, except for the carpet and headliner material. (the bows are still in place) The dash has some cracks in it, the glass is all there, original 3-speed console is in there too. The 6-way seat adjuster is still in place under the drivers seat. Obviously the interior needs to be restored as well. Sometime in the 70’s someone added a pioneer 8-track player under the dash and I still have it! Drivetrain: The numbers matching engine and transmission are still in the car. The only modifications that were made were a 4-barrel intake and carb were added, plus and exhaust system with headers. The car hasn’t been run in many years so its safe to assume that they will need a rebuild. I was told the rear end is 8 3/4 . The car originally had steel wheels but now has a set of 14” rally wheels. The buyer will get the CT title plus a bill of sale with purchase. The car is sold as is with no warranty, anyone is welcome to view the car by appointment, or I can send more photos if that is not possible. NOTE: If you have 0 or negative feedback on your account please contact me before bidding. The car must be paid for within 7 days of the end of the auction. The car can be picked up anytime during the day or evening, but preferably on the weekend. Please contact me with any questions! |

Demon's NHRA competition ban: Good talking point, bad feature
Wed, Apr 12 2017One of the biggest headlines for the Dodge Challenger Demon is that, in stock form, it's so fast that the NHRA won't allow it to compete in the organization's events. It's the ultimate humble brag, "I can't drag race my car because it's so fast it was banned by the sanctioning body." Certainly Tim Kuniskis, head of FCA brands in North America, was excited. He told the press that he hugged the guy that brought him the letter banning the Demon from competition. Unfortunately, the reality is that not being NHRA-legal is kind of silly, and frustrating for owners who would want to actually race. Before we go too much farther, we should explain exactly why the Demon is illegal for NHRA competition. The car is capable of a sub-10-second quarter-mile time both on racing fuel and 91-octane pump gas. Cars that fast are required by the NHRA to have a full, certified roll cage, and the Demon doesn't. Now there are certainly ways to get around this. The most obvious would be for a Demon owner to have a company install a roll cage. Using less grippy tires than the barely street-legal Nitto cheater slicks would probably help bring that time down, too. There's also the option of putting the car into Eco mode, and, yes, the Demon has one. In Eco mode, the Demon makes just 500 horsepower, and trips the lights at the quarter-mile in 11.59 seconds, which will avoid the roll-cage requirement. However, none of these options are ideal. For one thing, if you bought an 840-horsepower car, you're not going to want to limit it when you get to a closed course such as a drag strip. Similarly, you're not going to want to ditch your super-sticky tires at the strip, especially when they're standard equipment. Finally, having to go aftermarket for a roll cage is an inconvenience at minimum, and it seems like a strange oversight considering the rest of the car. This is a car from the factory that comes with drag radials, no passenger seats, a racing fuel tune, air conditioned intercooler, and even skinny front wheels for drag racing. Its purpose is clear, but for some reason, Dodge stopped short of giving it a roll cage that would allow it to compete. Perhaps adding a roll cage would've made it difficult to pass safety regulations, and we would be more disappointed if the car wasn't allowed on the street. Even so, it seems like an odd stopping point.
Defiance Dodge Charger, saving Earth from aliens isn't clean work [w/video]
Fri, 08 Feb 2013You'll be forgiven for not having heard about the TV show Defiance - it actually hasn't aired its first episode yet. The new science fiction show about an alien war against Earth in the near future seems like a perfect fit for the SyFy channel, and, apparently one that Dodge saw as a slick marketing opportunity for its Charger sedan.
Here in Chicago, Dodge has given a large corner of its show stand to the Defiance Charger, a car that won't be skipped by any Mad Max fans in attendance at this year's show. The Charger boasts one hell of a gnarly patina under a confusingly welded cage of tube steel, as well as window bars, a grille guard in front, and big, knobby truck tires. There aren't any obvious guns or turrets on the outside of the vehicle, so we can only hope that the characters driving it go well-armed.
Look for the Charger to make its star turn in Defiance when the series premieres on SyFy on April 15 at 9:00 PM EST. Also, there's said to be a Defiance video game in the works, too, so you may get a chance to steer the burly Dodge for yourself. Find a trailer for the show, below, as well.
Zombie cars: A dozen discontinued vehicles people still buy new
Thu, Jan 6 2022Car models come and go, but as revealed by monthly sales data, once a car is discontinued, it doesn't just disappear instantly. And in the case of some models, vanishing into obscurity can be a slow, tedious process. That's the case with the 12 cars we have here. All of them have been discontinued, but car companies keep racking up "new" sales with them. There are actually more discontinued cars that are still registering new sales than what we decided to include here. We kept this list to the oldest or otherwise most interesting vehicles still being sold as new, including a supercar. We'll run the list in alphabetical order, starting with *drumroll* ... BMW 6 Series: 55 total sales BMW quietly removed the 6 Series from the U.S. market during the 2019 model year. It had been available in three configurations, a hardtop coupe, a convertible and a sleek four-door coupe-like shape. Â BMW i8: 18 total sales We've always had a soft spot for the BMW i8, despite the fact that it never quite fit into a particular category. It was sporty, but nowhere near as fast as similarly-priced competitors. It looked very high-tech and boasted a unique carbon fiber chassis design and a plug-in hybrid powertrain, but wasn't really designed for maximum efficiency or maximum performance. Still, the in-betweener was very cool to look at and drive, and 18 buyers took one home over the course of 2021. Â Chevy Impala: 750 total sales The Impala represented classic American tastes at a time when American tastes were shifting away from soft-riding sedans with big interior room and trunk space and into higher-riding crossovers. A total of 750 sales were inked last year. Â Chrysler 200: 15 total sales The Chrysler 200 was actually a pretty nice sedan, with good looks and decent driving dynamics let down by a lack of roominess, particularly in the back seat. Of course, as we said regarding the Chevy Impala, the number of Americans in the market for sedans is rapidly winding down, and other automakers are following Chrysler's footsteps in canceling their slow-selling four-doors. Even if Chrysler never really found its footing in the ultra-competitive midsize sedan segment, apparently dealerships have a few leftover 2017 200s floating around. And for some reason, 15 buyers decided to sign the dotted line to take one of these aging sedans home last year.
